Do people take this website serious. They have a thread about bacon that has over 1000 posts. One guy was complaining that audio was an expensive hobby but only had 300.00 tied up in his system. They think that audio made during the 70's blows away gear made in 2013. I can't figure out if these people took to much acid back in the day or are people really that stupid.
The AK site is made up of all different types of people. Some like vintage, some like modern Some have $300 systems, some have $30,000 systems Some like bacon...well, everyone likes bacon there.
If you read that thread from the beginning, some troll started a "Why are there so many audio snobs..." thread. That site is "All Audio No Attitude" and that's how they dealt with him, by completely changing the subject to something as mundane as bacon.
I went back and read the thread and it did start out with "Why are there so many audio snobs" But to put up over a 1000 posts about bacon is even crazier than what the op wrote.
AK is really comical stating "no attitude" as they are a wolfpack there, closed off to any message the see as against the majority there. Its fine to have a leaning of vintage but you can not even debate cables or most any premium item without a pounce from heavyhanded moderators and members. I guess dumpster divers need a place to post like anyone else but they can not seem to for the most part grasp that it is about loving music. To be fair the reverse pops up here now and then so go figure. There is a moderate problem of jealousy there for those who listen to higher priced gear.
That site is all about Goodwill and garage sale finds and 70's receivers , multiple cheap speakers collections in one room and so forth. I don't take them seriously. But of course they do make fan of us with the expensive power cables and big amps and all the other boutique components.
"All audio no attitude" I am quoting Sebrof on that one. Yet they bash high-end cables, big amps and boutique products. So what happened to the "All audio no attitude" mantra.
The site has many type of users and as Sebrof said some like are using $300 system and some are with $30,000 system. Everyone is having his own experience to share.

Agree and agree. I think the AK an AGon sites are more similar than some might think, just different reference points. Water seeks its own level, so to speak.
If you want to know how to hook up 2 sets of speakers to one receiver, post that question on AK. If you want to know what "Interconnect with great dynamics and bass slam", post that question on the 'Gon.
The AK site is a bad joke. There are guys there posting in the Home Theater forum who are actually proud that they've never heard a surround system (even a sh!tty one) and many of them are more than satisfied with the tinny little speakers that came with their 42 inch TV. Gimme a break...
I like the guys that are proud that they have never cleaned a record in their life. Or the guys that swear up and down that Radio Shack makes the best stereo equipment ever. When someone asks about Interconnects and cables he tells them to check www.monoprice.com home of the 3 dollar interconnect and .10 cent a foot speaker wire.
I think AK would make a good reality show. Where would you find more nuts in one place. Maybe they can show Honey boo boo how to put together a system.
Then there are the audio websites where entire threads are about another audio website...talk about a waste of bandwidth. Better to a growing site than a fading one.
BTW, AK has all kinds of folk from the dumpster diver to the hobbyists with six figure systems. Seems it's better to be a bit inclusive than altogether exclusive. Just my .02.
Taters, you really have a bug up your arse, don't you? I went to Audio Karma several years ago, realized it wasn't for me and left. There is no need to mock or put down other people, that doesn't make you any more of a man.
Name calling....really.....are we still in junior high? Sheesh!!
If you have some better names I would like to hear them.
I'm beginning to think there is more to the story here. You sure some dude's silver faced Sony receiver didn't blow your system away and you're just trying to get even? Or some bacon sandwich eating dude stole your lunch money in school? C'mon, what gives? What's the real deal? You can't have that much angst simply because some guys like chaep stereo gear.
It would be one thing if they liked there cheap stuff. I have no problem with that. But they are always putting down new gear or making fun of guys that try to put together high-end audio systems. They say they have no attitude but I find them to have more attitude than any site out there. Even if you go to sites where the guys have 200k systems. They still Interact with the guys with basic systems and they don't put them down. On AK if you mention you bought a power cord or Interconnect for more than 50.00 they will crucify you and gang up on you like a bunch of thugs. Plus the fact these people are so closed minded to anything new or modern. Out of all the audio sites out there this one is the least progressive. It's like time stopped for them in 1978.
Taters is right to point out the abusive attitude over on AK but you also gotta let it go. I was on AK few years back, was subjected to the abuse and foolishly fought back instead of just moving along and let kids enjoy their little lunch table. Its like trying to debate a drunk over there, they can not grasp reason or even accept opinion. You can bet this thread will be talk at the lunch table. The funny part was while the wolfpack pounced on me wnd the member mods backed them up the head guy there was privately emailing me messages of support and asking me to come to the festival they have in Michigan.
Taters - Much of what you say is true, I must agree. There is a good bit of reverse snobbery as it is referred to there. But I would say that there is probably no more attitude there than on this site for example, just attitude toward different things. There are many there who are a little more balanced as well, on any site you can look at the extremes of the population for extreme examples. You should register and post about something you have or are looking to purchase. You may be surprised. But use a different moniker ;) And 1978 is about right for the moment time stood still, at least for a good portion of the site.
ABK claims a membership of 150,000 members. I didn't know there were so many knuckleheads into audio. When I go to my club meetings or the shows I never run into people like that. Sure I run into the eccentric's and the nerds but at least they are Intelligent and not talking about bacon.
Critical listening on a good system and frying bacon are not mutually exclusive. Just the other day I prepared a super BLT while enjoying an opera on vinyl. Both had "sizzle."
I would never in a million years do there annual show in Michigan. I can't stand being around morons. If I went I would lose my temper and punch someone out. The funny thing is I've never seen any of them at the shows I do. When I think about it why would they be at a show I attend. They are only Interested in stuff made before 1978.
Its not a crime to like old gear or even champion cheaper gear as everyone comes at things differently. The problem is while everyone comes at this hobby differently most on AK lost the fact we are all supposed to come together over loving the music played on whatever system or price. Again some here lost that ideal aswell equating money spent to actual love of music, shame on both right? Whats worse the dumpster diver or the guy with $50k in gear and 75 "audiophile" albums as his only listening pleasure? It does happen. Cheap, old, new, expensive, the tent should fit everyone because afterall the hobby as a whole remains on life support.
Hmmm, I would rather vist a true music lover with a humble vintage rig who had a great music selection over a guy who only plays Diana K and Chesky recordings any chance I got. I understood you Tater up till your last post, at that point you lost me. People in this hobby can have it all, if they accept it all.
1.Hi, my name is Dave and I'm a hoarder. 2.Any good USB dacs for 75.00.
The Jerry Springer of Audio websites!
Taters, seriously dude, you need therapy. Not just a therapy session once or twice a week. No, you my friend, need a team of therapists, studying you, talking about you, thinking about you around the clock, 24/7. (Seinfeld reference)
