Why does Audiogon need my phone number to send private messages

What’s up with this, I’m not fond of the new Audiogon.

paulcreed

I just don't send private messages anymore, so problem solved! They don't need my phone number and won't get it!

I had to authenticate on my iphone 13  by email and also by txt message which is bit much since my iphone 13 isn't my daily driver and has no service. It’s used as a strictly for porn, as a Roon remote, and to use the AIDJ ios app for (ROO-EXTEND Roon AIDJ Extension to curate great custom playlists and queues them in Roon using my voice).

Anytime I log in they have to send me a text, how do I get my phone number off there list. Does that mean I can’t post anything without a text by.audiogon  I’m about done with Audiogon. I didn’t even bring up my payment method which they will never get.

What I find odd is that AG does all these security-based requirements, which is good, but often deletes posts where people warn others about bad vendor / sellers.

Wind down little man. I was here before you, and will be here when you are dust. It was just tonge in cheek, simple as that.

You don’t need to remove your phone number.

Go to your Edit Account page.

Turn off, Enable SMS 2FAF

That will stop the texts to your your phone.

If this shows up after Log In, when you try to look at a member's info just X out, upper right hand corner of message.

.

I've never got a text from Agon just an occasional email when I log in on a different device, usually when traveling.

The only asked for my number to validate me if I was trying to purchase something, not to message anyone.

@jcarcopo ....Well, thanks for disclosure we'd perhaps remain clueless about...
'Roon porn'....?  One can wonder about the 'staging' of such.....

AG may have my cell number, but hasn't yet or ever used it in any fashion.  An email advising I've 'gone rogue' in some fashion is rare in itself, and I've no plan nor intent to 'pump up the volume' on being wayward beyond what I 'do' anyhow....

Doomed to 'postbored'.....*mock yawn*

Data Mining. Sold to online databases for income. Links the phone number to the individual computer so that more data matching about us can be utilised.

The ol’ adage applies: If it is free, YOU are the product being traded.

I don't understand who owns this.  Is audiogon Company traded on the exchange? Are there shareholders or are all the members effectively shareholders it's so confusing it just is here.  Charge fee for all the members? Maybe they could make more money.  Or maybe they're not greedy people.

Providing a phone number helps stop spammers and bots.

This information is not sold or  shared.

@lalitk  This has to be a glitch.  Can you send an email to support@audiogon.com?

@lalitk  When I mispelled Roon as Rune, I added a comment to my own post about the error.  I tried to edit the original post, but found out that you can't edit if someone has replied to the post.  Since I had replied to my own post, I could no longer edit the original post.
