Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

@big_greg, I tell you what, sometimes I put that Red Octopus album on and it just doesn't stop playing for hours. It really is fantastic and under-appreciated.

Last listen for the night before retiring. Carlos Santana & Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, "Love Devotion Surrender". Nice!

Herbert Blomstedt conducts Nielsen - The Symphonies of Carl Nielsen, Album 2

  • Symphony No. 4, Op. 29 "The Inextinguishable"
  • Sago-Drom (The Dream Of Gunnar), Op. 39
  • Symphony No. 5, Op. 50
  • Pan And Syrinx, Op. 49 B
  • Symphony No. 6 "Sinfonia Semplice"
  • Rhapsodie Overture (An Imaginary Trip To The Faroe Islands)

Dan & Company, fun stuff!

Patricia Barber - "Companion"

And thanks to bslon for reminding me of "Striking It Rich."

found this at the record store the other day

Brasil "65 with The Sergio Mendes Trio ,  Capitol Records Japanese Red Vinyl

@bslon So glad to see someone else listening to Dan Hicks (and his hot licks).  Been loving Dan for just about 50 years now.  A national treasure.

Rickie Lee Jones - The Magazine

Original WB 1984 US pressing.

Recent NM find at a LRS for $5. Great album. Great SQ.

@tgilb   +1 RLJ first 3 recordings are 5 star rated with demo level SQ. I do believe "The Magazine" was digitally recorded.

@dayglow    Thanks for the info on The Magazine. I was not aware. While the SQ is very good it would be difficult to compete with the high bar set by her first self titled album and Pirates that are absolutely stunning.

Václav Neumann conducts Martinů - Symphonies 3,4,&5
The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra
Supraphon 2LP gatefold 1982
Czechoslovakian release

Hilary Hahn - Paris

  • Prokofiev - Concerto For Violin And Orchestra No. 1 In D Major Op. 19
  • Chausson - Poème Op. 25 For Violin And Orchestra
  • Rautavaara - Deux Sérénades

Mikko Franck conducting Orchestre Philharmonique De Radio France
Deutsche Grammophon 2LP 45rpm 2021

Patti Labelle-Tasty Side 1

Moe Bandy-Soft Lights And Hard Country Music Side 2

Aerosmith-Night In The Ruts Side 2 SQ*

Uriah Heep- Live Side B(2 on label) SQ*

Paul Simon-There Goes Rhymin’ Simon Side 1 SQ *

Harold Betters-Funk City Express Side 2

Deep Purple-Perfect Strangers Side 2(B on label)

Tchaikovsky-Symphony No.4(RCA VICS-1000) Side 1+2

SQ* Just missed Audiophile SQ. If I had to pick a winner Uriah Heep gets the edge considering its a live album regardless of whether or not it was cleaned up in the studio. Gary Thain is wicked on bass as well as the entire band, great live album if your a classic rock fan! Perfect Strangers is one of the best rock albums of the 1980’s.

Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love (The Ninth Wave Only!)

1985 US Pressing on EMI America

Gregg Allman / Laid Back
2015 Analogue Productions RE, orig. 1973

Fabulous sounding reissue, quiet vinyl, a great LP

Helen Reddy-Music, Music Side 1

Anne Murray-Let's Keep It That Way Side 2

Seawind-ST Side B

Oliva Newton-John-Greatest Hits Side 1

Dionne Warwick-Dionne Side 1

Michael Franks-One Bad Habit Side 2

Carpenters-Voice Of The Heart Side 2 SQ Audiophile

John Klemmer-Touch Side A SQ Audiophile

Every recording had above average SQ. After hearing Carpenters and Klemmer rise above the rest I could not justify giving any of the others Audiophile status. As many know "Touch" has a long history of being a demo disc which ultimately takes the SQ crown.

John Lee Hooker / the healer
2022 Craft Recordings, orig. 1989

All analog reissue on Craft, very nicely done.

+1 for The Healer.

Muddy Waters - Hard Again

1977 Blue Sky Records

Great version of Mannish Boy with Johnny Winter yelling in the background.

Last Night:

Loreena McKennitt - Troubadors on the Rhine

Bach - The Goldberg Variations Glenn Gould

Yes - Fragile

Symphony No. 41/S No. 88 - Fritz Reiner CSO

Gong - Expresso ll

Decided to spin all my recently purchased Beatles remaster/remixes today for a second spin. Nice to have some downtime heading into the Christmas Holidays
