Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

@big_greg +1 "Across A Crowed Room" might not be a 5* recording but hard to pick the best song off a very solid album. Already had "Shoot Out The Lights"(in 1984) on vinyl which was a little complex for a teenager but was able to discern something special within that album. Will play "Room" or "Lights" on next vinyl night.

Motown  Collected
2021 MOV

Fun compilation, SQ varies. White vinyl—cute.  Back cover shown.

The Isley Brothers / The Heat Is On
1975 T-Neck

Soul, funk and rock rolled into one. Nice SQ. “Hope You Feel Better Love” gets rockin’!

Bus Boys / Minimum Wage Rock & Roll
1980 Arista

The lyrics are at times a hoot, nothing “minimum wage” about the music.

@dayglow I must admit I wasn't really familiar with Richard Thompson's music, but have heard so much about it I wanted to dive in.  I don't regret it!

Bill,

Lots of songs per side isn't it? on the Motown lp. I think back in the day, radio stations weren't playing songs over 3 minutes. There's a story about Simon & Garfunkel, one of their songs was slightly longer than 3 minutes. The label listed the song on the album 2 min. 65 seconds and got away with it.😁

@slaw The short songs keep it moving right along! Disc 1 has 9 & 10 songs of older stuff, maybe kept short to fit on 45rpm’s and jukebox discs? Interesting observation Steve, I agree radio probably had time limits too. I had never heard about S&G listing a track that way, funny!

@noromance

I streamed some Holly Golightly today. Tidal didn't have the lp you recommend but listening to " My First Holly Golightly Album".....love it! Thanks Brian

Betty Vaiden Williams – Folk Songs And Ballads Of North Carolina (Vanguard 1958 mono)

Historic recording with a beauty all its own.

Absolutly fantastic.

The Modern Jazz Quartet & Orchestra. Atlantic remastered, mid to late 70’s. Originally 1961. Stereo

Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop. This sounds really good for a four men with no ears pressing.

One of my recent $1 finds at the local thrift store. It sounds almost new after a cleaning

Tomita: Snowflakes are Dancing (RCA) - a real nostalgia trip

Next up is Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture, March Slave and Romeo and Juliet, Andre Previn/LSO, a MOFi/Angel release, also a dollar.

The Rainmakers - "The Good News and the Bad News"

Americana Rock and Roll? Don't know, but I like it. A lot....

Jon Lord  - Gemini
Dead Can Dance - The Serpents Egg
Absolute Elsewhere - The Search for Ancient Gods

Beach Boys - Smiley Smile

1967/2022 Analog Productions Mono

Another great job from AP.

@tgilb: Yes! Once again, thank God for Chad Kassem (and mastering engineer Kevin Gray). Who but Chad would think to reissue the entire 1962-67 Capitol Records Beach Boys catalog (stopping before Wild Honey, for some reason).

I have six different issues of Smiley Smile, and the AP version is by far the best. Do you also have the 2011 Capitol Records boxset of the Smile Sessions? It contains every foot of tape recorded for that aborted project. Only for the obsessed ;-) .

Herbert Blomstedt conducts Nielsen - The Symphonies of Carl Nielsen, Album 1 : Symphonies No. 1, 2, 3 & Andante Lamentoso (At The Bier Of A Young Artist) / Bohemian-Danish Folk Melody / Helios Overture, Op. 17. Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Seraphim 3LP box, 1975
