lon moshe & the southern freedom arkestra - love is where the spirit lies

excellent reissue on strut

the stanley brothers with the clinch mountain boys - sacred songs from the hills

doug hammond and david durrah - reflections in the sea of nurnen (now again reissue)

kevin & clare - all the roads

private press christian folk lp...a little bit psych, a little bit haunted. very beautiful and intimate sounding record

chuck johnson - balsams

beautiful ambient record with a focus on steel guitar. recommended by a fellow forum member on the 'whats on your system' thread. i loved it so much on streaming that i bought the lp

boards of canada - in a beautiful place out in the country EP

based on the major albums i never really cared about this group, mostly left me cold, but this one and "twoism" are something else

after listening to qobuz and bandcamp all day (and enjoying it very much), it is so nice to put on a marvin gaye record - "i want you", pristine og. i love all formats but the rumors are true, a quality LP on a decent rig just hits you differently

listened to a pair of new reissues as well - malachi thompson, "the seventh son" and billy harper quintet live at antibes ’75. before the repress the former was very hard to find in decent shape, a kind of soul jazz odyssey for smokers, and the latter was unreleased - put out by Sam, a label that’s got to be on the radar of every jazz head who’s into great sound quality (they also did the amazing nathan davis/george avanitas live in paris release from last year)

@bkeske "river people" on that weather report album...that is a desert island tune in my world. killer!!

billy stewart - remembered

most of his best chess sides on this comp from the early 70s...essential record imho

@juanmanuelfangioii that count ossie record is so good. it got the deluxe reissue treatment just recently i believe - i definitely need to pick that up

currently playing sonya spence - in the dark. an all time favorite around here

playing a brand new record - dansons avec le ry-co jazz, a compilation of some of their lesser known classics. top guitar album. never got deep into congolese rhumba but it's a whole world of its own and this band is apparently like the beatles in that world. really great stuff

step by step - i always wanted to be in the band

milwaukee funk and soul record on brunswick

had the pleasure of playing some records in a local bar tonight...not my turntables. but there was some heat played for sure. the last record i played was a cumbia version of rod stewart "if you think i'm sexy"

all 45s tonight. a little funk, a little soul, a little cumbia, a little weirdo stuff. the usual around here

re: "bridge of sighs"...i've had 3 or 4 thrifted/dollar bin copies here over the years. all clean. not a single one sounded very good to me. it's not my favorite album so no great loss to me but can confirm that it's hard to find one that sounds "right" ( if it exists at all). i find it fascinating that i have an art blakey record that looks like it went through a washing machine and still sounds unbelievably good, but a 70's mainstream rock record like the trower can look factory fresh and sound like a napster download. that's just the record game i guess.

speaking of old rock i'm listening to badfinger "straight up" right now. a personal favorite

the best of the delmore brothers on starday records...a dollar bin masterpiece

lots of stuff tonight - got a little dj gig coming up here in october. right now i am listening to the light in the attic reissue of seaside lovers "memories of beach house" - pure 80s excellence imho

lucrecia dalt - no era solida

strange and spooky stuff!!! highly recommended if you’re into getting weird. reminiscent of robert ashley's automatic writing - glosolalia with haunted loops and that kind of thing

the new folk sound of terry callier

exquisite record. filed in the "do not sell, ever" pile

gwenifer raymond - strange lights over garth mountain

gwenifer plays acoustic guitar (sometimes banjo - check out her version of idumea on youtube) in the john fahey style and she absolutely rips. heavy and zoned out cosmic plucking. this is her newer album but everything she’s put out has been good

the bobby hamilton quintet unlimited - dream queen

not usually a RSD release guy but this reissue was a must have in my world. the record was basically unobtainable til now - highly regarded and sought after by the select few who were even aware of its excistence. this repress is still available direct from the label. bernie grundman remastered it
