goofy record

James, I have a handful of Boult conducting Williams, have seen that one, but never truly interested me....perhaps I’m lucky ;-)

I am a big Williams fan though.

I also have a CD box set of his complete works conducted by Leonard Slatkin and the Philharmonia Orchestra, which is pretty good. The older Boult selections on vinyl are a bit ‘hit and miss’. Some pretty good, but none I would say are ‘great’.
@boxer12 Streaming Black Dice. Not doing it for me! Moving on to Flooting Grooves.
@bkeske,  I’ll send it to you.....

yeah, Williams composed many of my favorite orchestral works.  These are different.  There is one exquisite passage with piano in the long choral work but most of the rest, like 80’s keyboards music, doesn’t survive the test of time.  There may be people who still like to hike to church service all dressed up in marching costumes but I don’t know any.
@spiritofradio and @bkeske, Vaughan Williams is one of my very favorite composers. I love many of his orchestral works, but he had a wonderful way of writing for the voice. Some of my very favorite choral works are by him: Serenade to Music, Dona nobis pacem, and his motet, "Lord, Thou Hast Been Our Refuge, to name a few.
My listening this evening has been weirdly eclectic: Bread - "Baby I'm-a Want You", Art Pepper - "Winter Moon", Marvin Gaye- What's Going On, "Ringing Strings: Fiddle Music of Norway", and now "British Band Classics: Works by Walton, Holst, and Jacobs" by the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Frederick Fennel, conducting.
@gardnerss501,  I played “serenade to music” just the other day, it’s a wonderful work.

Don't like the music, or poor quality of your copy? I've always liked "The Pretender".

@reubent it had a small skip on side 1. There was another on side 2 that sealed its fate. I ordered a replacement. I like the music it was just a bad record.
I have that Pat Metheney Group album.  So that means, I'll have to play it, maybe tomorrow.  Always get ideas of what to play from my collection when reading all of the posts here.  Yeah!

Got a couple of remasters, arrived today.

Fleetwood Mac   'Kiln House'  Awesome album!  My high school copy was thrashed and I made this purchase because, well, I just had to have it.  They did a fabulous job on this reissue.  And quiet vinyl, too.

Neil Young S/T  I bought this new in 1973 so it was a reissue at the time.  It is a terrible copy, very noisy.  This new remaster is outstanding!  This is at the level of the Buffalo Springfield Box Set.  I'll be getting the others now that I know how well they did them.  Man, this is great!

Pat Metheny Group - "American Garage"

I love that record! It's been in my semi-regular rotation since it was released in 1979.

Palpable Soundstage all the way out into the room.  I can almost see the notes bouncing around.
@reubent

Yeah, “American Garage” is so good and on several levels.  On my more evolved system now I can appreciate the details along with the incredible musicianship and the life soundtrack melodies.  One of the most uplifting records ever made.
