What would you do if items from Ebay had beenlost?
I ordered three vintage Nos tubes from Ebay dealer.
it is supposed to be delivered today through USPS.
I had followed three packages through USPS tracking.
About 5 PM today, I got the email that all three packages got delivered at 4.11 pm left at front door or porch of my house.
But I could not find anything around my house.
My community comprised of 25 houses seated at 2 acres each on the cul de sac.
Thus it is very unlikely that stranger pick up the packages in less than an hour.
Thus I sent a following email to my neighbors but no positive response yet.
What would you do if you were me?
I had never lost a package delivered to my house last 5 years.

Hello neighbors I was expecting three small packages through USPS. Then I got the email that those were delivered on my front door at 4 PM today But I could not find them on my front doors. Something like that happened to me, where UPS said they delivered when they didn’t. Probably they did deliver somewhere, just not here. The worst part is unless its delivery signature required they consider it delivered when the driver says he left it on the porch. Which is why its better by far to have important deliveries made to a UPS shipping center where they will hold until you come and sign for it.
But that’s for future reference. For now all you can do is file a claim letting USPS and the shipper know you never got it.
I would let the seller know that, in spite of what the USPS says, you did not receive the package, but don’t ask for a refund yet. I have on more than one occasion gotten the package delivered notice without getting the package, only to have it delivered in the next few days.
So be patient, you will probably get it. Also, the tube seller probably had it insured, so let him know, but wait a week or two before deciding it’s lost.
If you paid with Paypal or a credit card you can always get your money back that way, so no need to do anything rash.
Hopefully it will show up on Monday. In my neighborhood, USPS is notorious for updating delivery notifications the day before they actually deliver the item.
Same thing happened to me with UPS. package which appeared a day or two later. First thing would be to have head of your local post office ask the mail carrier (used to be easier). Or leave a big note fir mail carrier asking them very nicely if they know what happened.
I went through a period a few years back where things would get marked as delivered a day or two ahead of time. Probably the driver fudging the delivery metrics for his route. Give it a day or two before saying it’s missing
problem eventually solved itself - postal person probably got fired or moved to another route when it eventually caught up to them.
I utilize ‘Informed Delivery’ with the USPS, and you can inform the Post Office via the app, or online, that you did not receive the item they stated was delivered. I believe this may have happened to me once, I clicked the ‘button’ that I had not received the item, and ‘wala’, the item was delivered the following day.
Perhaps the carrier simply made a mistake in my case, none the less, all was well in the end.
I’m not sure what recourse you may have if the the Post Office did indeed deliver it, and it came up missing.
I always ship buyer signature required on delivery and anything expensive shipped to me I have to sign for it. A couple of people tried to issue a claim that they didn’t receive the package But when I sent them the signature copy, they recanted their claim
Of the many items I have purchased on eBay only once was an item not delivered to me. A couple of months ago I purchased a coffee maker on eBay for $60(no signature required) and used PayPal. Received a tracking number for FedEx. I monitor tracking info closely. Finally, FedEx tracking stated the package was delivered to my porch. I was home all that day. Never received the item. eBay nor PayPal could enable a refund because FedEX tracking stated the item was "delivered".
I use a freight forwarder based in Miami FL and over the years I've have a few items go "poof!" The first time it happened, I asked them to assist me filing a claim with USPS. They went "Naah, waste of time, you are just on the phone for hours!" They allowed me to file a claim to their insurance instead. Took a while and obviously wasn't convenient but I didn't lose anything in the end. I hope everything works out for you.
It may not be your case but there is a scam that goes like this.
A seller is listed as being in, let’s say, Ashland, Virginia.
Pictures may be taken from some previous listing or elsewhere on the Internet.
You order, pay, and it all seems legitimate. Seller is sending it and you even get a tracking number.
You notice that item is at Deutsche Post in, let’s say, Shangai.
You do nothing as there is an item traveling to you.
You follow the item and all the stops along the way.
Item reaches your country, let’s say U.S.A.
You continue following as it is coming closer and closer.
On the day of delivery, it says it was left at your porch, concierge, wherever you were expecting it.
Except that it never came to your place. It was delivered to a porch, you just assumed it was supposed to be yours.
As you were following it coming closer, you were encouraged and gave it benefit of the doubt. After a day or two, while you wait for your package to show up because it was "by mistake" delivered somewhere else, you start complaining to the mail carrier.
They say it was delivered, and it was. Just not to you. It was delivered to an address probably close to you and it was not your item anyway. It might have been a brick, plastic wallet, anything.
The scammer made you believe she/he was near you. Pictures were not even generic.
She/he googled your address, found another place to deliver it, probably within your ZIP code so it shows it was delivered at your ZIP code.
Package was sent. Whatever you thought you ordered was not in the package. You might have even paid for shipping.
By the time you wait, argue with the mail carrier, etc., time almost runs out to start the process of reporting fraud to eBay, PayPal, etc.
Then you have to go to police, get the report, submit it to eBay, make them believe you more than they believe seller, and you may get your money back.
After wasting all that time, you never want to buy anything on eBay.
It may not be your case, but check seller’s other items. If there is, let’s say, Mickey Mouse lamp google "Mickey Mouse lamp" and check images. Any of them same as in your seller’s listing? Yes - smells like scam. No - good luck.
If your mail carrier claims the package was delivered, but they cannot prove the address just because they cannot, save yourself some time and file for refund from eBay ASAP. You do not want to miss the window for that.
Hope your package shows up soon. I recommend installing a Ring Door Bell, you are always in the know who is showing up at your door. A video proof is a great alibi in case of any claims.
This happened for me with a Krell preamp in December. You think, 'oh I paid by Paypal, I'm covered'- bulls**t. UPS said they dropped it (didn't get the signature they were supposed to) and that's all Paypal needed. With nothing else, they found for the seller, who had insurance. So, F me and my $1400 in this case. Good thing the credit card company ultimately handled it, but lowlives following the UPS, Amazon or mail truck around are a big reality.
I solved this 12 years ago. All packages from USPS, FedEx, UPS have standing orders, plus a sign, plus hiRes cameras, to deliver in my box on my porch. It is a steel box, painted in Wife-Approved paint, bolted to my concrete porch. Lid stays open until a package is put in it. On closing, it locks. It requires a key to open it, lock is not exposed. It’s 4 ft x 2.5 ft by 2 ft high. The delivery folks love it! I’ve had them take pics of it. I’ve never had anything disappear. Plus, I have camera proof of non-delivery!
You can buy cheap WiFi cameras on Amazon for $50. Get the ones that take a 64GB card. That will get you several days of recording. Never had to send the video to someone, but when you tell couriers, vendors that you have security cameras that clearly show no delivery, then you get a much much difference reception.
When the carrier delivers the package they scan the bar code on the package, that scan also records the gps location of the delivery so the post office can find out exactly where they left it. They would still have to retrieve the package from whomever they delivered it to but at least you would know what happened and you would then have a better idea in which direction to proceed.
The only package that got lost of many hundreds shipped and received in the past year was sent to China. Some arrived at their US destinations slowly, especially those days. There were issues in Florida almost all last year with USPS. Tracking is the only way to fly. Almost all USPS packages are tracked automatically. Signature required is useful for expensive items, as is insurance.
Unlike a lot of posters here I have NEVER had notice that an item has been delivered before it actually has. Here in sleepy Florida it’s nearly always the other way round. I will get my packages and then maybe get delivery confirmation much later that day, the next day and sometimes not at all.
Strange things happen. I had a package sent to me two days ago that showed delivered. When I looked at tracking info it showed delivered to the shipper’s address the same day it was shipped. The postal dude must’ve hit the wrong button.
With USPS insurance doesn't guarantee your money back if said package was delivered without signature. I learned this the hard way. Lucky for me the package had a net worth of only around $35. If they say the package was delivered and turns up nowhere to be found, they claim no responsibility. Which is horse poo in my book. I hope you find your package.
