I enjoy vinyl and digital (lately, with recent changes, vinyl actually sounds better than digital to me), BUT given what seems an overall preference for analog/vinyl on A'gon, I'm curious what the non-vinyl "1/2" is listening to. Mapman - glad to see your Camel recommendation to Schubert. Classical roots and influence of/on well done prog rock should appeal to him, I would think. Maybe expand his musical horizons a bit more.
You find it enjoyable listening to things in the random order as you've listed? Some quite jarring changes track to track. Not sure that would work for me but am curious to hear your take on it.
I spend a lot of time listening that way. It's a good way to become more familiar with all your music. Like programming your own personal radio station. I learned to like a lot of music listening to the radio. Does not work as well for concept albums or multiparty classical. I find I listen with less preconception when I do not have to choose what to listen to. New CDs get ripped up front then stored. I might not hear something I added new for a bit. It's a great way to discover new music. Call it "Mapman radio".
OK Mapman, soon as I'm done with internalizing all the spiritual aspects of Bach I will. Shouldn't be more than another 2-300 hundred years. I realize there are many good kinds of music, its just that the good is the enemy of the best.
In regards to random play, Pandora is nice for that; especially since most of my CD collection is not ripped. It is kinda like Mapman's listening. And I'm finding that is a great new way to listen. Now on to CDs on my player:

steve earle, terraplane. this isn't radically different than his other records, or necessarily better, but what strikes me is how he can crank out songs at such a high standard over such a long, prolific career. for consistency, tom petty' the only other to come to mind, and right now i'm digging earle more. check out "go go boots are back"
smashing pumpkins, cherub rock. billy corgan's voice is definitely a tolerate it or hate it proposition, but there's no denying the guy knows his stuff, and this song kicks beyond description. the compact little guitar solo towards the end is an all-timer.
Circle of Birds - a short 3 piece, one-time collaboration between members of Ester Drang and Unwed Sailor. Enjoy it and wish it were longer. Of the 2 groups that contributed, prefer Ester Drang, myself.
