What is your favorite 1 hit wonder from the 70's?

Many on Audiogon agree the 1970's was the best decade for popular music. Whether it was the quality of songwriting or the diversity of music. The decade also produced many unforgettable 1 hit wonders. My personal favorite is Afternoon Delight by Starland Vocal Band, what's yours?

"My Sharona" by The Knack ..... a pretty cool song by a band that just disappeared.
Audiofeil, I do remember that one. Mine frome the same year was:

"Antlers In The Treetops" by Whoogoos the Moose.
On a side note God bless Glen Campbell in his battle with Alzheimers that he went public with today. Rinestone cowboy was an iconic pop 70s hit.
The Knack are not a 1 hit wonder. Good Girls Don't hit #11 and Baby Talks Dirty was a top 40 hit. In 1991 Rocket O' Love was a minor hit with some radio play. BTW it's a great song with a killer(woman)video. Starbuck-Moonlight Feels Right has not been mentioned a yacht-rock classic. Great posts-Beach Baby, How Long, Smoke From a Distant Fire and Hocus Pocus true 1 hit wonders.
Bugles-Video killed the radio star.A true one hit wonder.
I agree also that quite a few artists' being mentioned were not really one hit one'ders.
"Funky Nassau" by The Begining of the End has not been mentioned. Peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 July 1971.
Three ;)
-Du (Peter Maffay)
-I Just Want To Be Your Everything (Andy Gibb)
-Emotion (Samantha Sang)
A yes, the 70's. A time of bad hair, bad fashion, and at least SOME really bad music. I know, I was there...

I'll leave it you to determine how good or bad these were, but they were the first to pop to mind:
"Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" by Looking Glass
"Smokin' in the Boy's Room" by Brownsville Station
"Convoy" by CW McCall (OK, we have a good sense of where that one lands on the quality scale.)

Oh, and by the way, Mott the Hoople had several other reasonably popular albums and singles, not the least of which was "All the Way From Memphis."

Like I said, I was there.
"Feelings" - Morris Alpert, a Brazilian. The words are banal but there is a certain melancoly yearning in the song I couldn't put my finger on when I first heard it. Then there was that slight accent of Alpert, didn't know at the time he was Brazilian. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea (why do I feel that is an understatement?) but probably the most performed song by different artists of any pop song of the 70's and that has to count for something although I'm not exactly sure what other than mointo carros for Mr. Alpert.
Innovative disco, before the "disco sucks".
Plus, the lyrics speak more today than they di back then.
I'll add a few more that might not have been mentioned.
1-Wildfire-Michael Martin Murphy
2-Chevy Van-Sammy Johns
3-Shannon-Henry Gross
4-My Maria-B.W. Stevenson
5-Baby Come Back-Player
Here's a couple you'll probably remember: Do You Know What I Mean- Lee Micheals, and: Resurrection Shuffle- Ashton, Gardner, and Dyke. Great tunes.
Dayglow. Right on with Wildfire and Chevy Van. I don't think they can even play Chevy Van on the radio any longer. I always thought those two songs were quite good.
Was Michael Murphy really a one hit wonder? What about "Geronimo's Cadillac"?
Someone mentioned, "Mexican Radio" / Wall of VooDoo, think that one was from the 80's too...

Good thread, as I'm reading the entries, I'm recalling all of these tunes in my head and remember nearly all of them...

How about, "Billy don't be a hero" to add another one...

I heard Chevy Van on the radio earlier this week. Talk about going into a time warp...
Syntax,Was that on the" Rebel" LP ? Stranger in the City ,had some choice tunes too. Lady of my Life,my fave off of Rebel
Raytheprinter, yes on that "Rebel" LP, Decca Pressing when you look for the original.
Jperry. He told her to get some sleep and dream of rock and roll. lol

Chevy Vam

I gave a girl a ride in my wagon
Now she crawled in and took control
She was tired as her mind was draggin
And I said get some sleep-and dream of rock and roll

Like a picture she was laying there
And moonlight dancing off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand
She's gonna love me in my Chevy van
And that's alright with me

Her young face was like that of an angel
And her long legs were tanned and brown
Better keep your eyes on the road son
Better slow this vehicle down 'cause

'Cause like a picture she was laying there
And moonlight dancing off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand
She's gonna love me in my Chevy van
And that's alright with me

I put her out in a town that was so small
You could throw a rock from end to end
A dirt road main street, she walked off in her barefeet
And it's a shame I won't be passin' through again

Like a picture she was laying there
And moonlight dancing off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand
We made love in my Chevy van
And that's alright iwth me

Yeah like a picture she was laying there
And moonlight dancing off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand
We made love in my Chevy van
And that's alright with me
Jdoris-You make a very strong case. Geronimo Cadillac peaked at #37-1972 and Carolina in the Pines #21-1975.
Billy Don't be a Hero was by Paper Lace who also did The Night Chicago Died.
Love is Like Oxygen. I cant remember who sang it but it sure got a ton of radio play.
Thanks, Dayglow. I think my older sister got me a demo copy from WVBR, the Cornell Student Radio station.

"Oh, Lord, take meback . . . "
Donjr.

Billy, Don't Be A Hero was a #1 hit for Paper Lace in the UK. The US hit was by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods. I don't believe that Paper Lace ever reached the top 40 with that song in the US.

Marty
I'm good with that. All good memories. This thread tortured me today. There was a point where Captain and Tenelle (spelling) was going through my head and at the same time I was listening to Ani Difranco on the stereo and the dog was playing with a squeek toy.
"Love is Like Oxygen" was by "Sweet".

They had several hits in the 70's, not one hit wonders. Fun stuff!
"Third Rate Romance" by Amazing Rhythm Aces
"Joy" by Apollo 100
"Overture from Tommy" by Assembled Multitude

BTW, Andy Kim was the writer of "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies, a #1 smash in 1969.
Yep, Norman Hurricane Smith who was an audio engineer for the Beatles and producer for Pink Floyd. I believe he recently passed away. Great tune.
