As Enzo Ferrari had said that the XKE was the most beautiful/sexiest car ever made (his opinion, not mine). How about high end audio products? There have to be some that sex was thought about by the designers?
Not the most exotic, but like a classic Mercedes or Packard,..there is a reason the Linn 12 has been around as long as it has. Yamaha had that slanted cassette deck, and I hope you can add to this list and, if possible, add a photo.
I think a young Barbi Benton holding even an 8-track player would be very attractive.
Somebody’s already mentioned Sonus Faber, so I will add my little Dali helicon 400s. Basic curvy shiny wood euro speaker. But let’s be honest. A number of people have mentioned B&O and rightfully so. They spent a butt load of time and money going for sleek modern and sexy and they succeeded a lot of times. I have listened to some their systems a few times over the years and generally speaking, they sounded okay. BUT you always knew that you were paying a significant amount of the purchase price for the sexiness.
Way too many components to mention, but for a different take on the question, instead of sexy let me say "attractive"- when I was in High School I had no money (except for an occasional album). But what I DID have was a Lafayette catalog. Allied catalogs too. With pictures of everything stereo, from Crown tape decks, Fisher tuners and amplifiers, speakers both assembled and tried-axial drivers you could mount yourself. Kits, parts, accessories, tons of stuff. Prices back then were very cheap compared to today!!! My dear mother must have thrown all of them away! What I wouldn't give for some of those drool-worthy catalogs now! And don't forget the nice hardwood furniture consoles you could buy to store your records underneath, and place your gear on top. Does anyone remember the Harmon Kardon "Egg"? A special chair you sat in with integral speakers inside the hood that drowned out all outside noise and bathed you in sound? So much great stuff, high-end, not high-end- what does it really matter? The early Cro-Magnums beat on animal skins stretched over wooden barrels....
Transcriptors original turntable is in MOMA - the Museum of Modern Art in NYC - for a reason. It was resurrected and remanufactured by different investors twice I believe. If it was modernized again I might find a reason to get into vinyl just to look at it.
Yes, the Altec A7's and other pro models were made with no visual appeal in mind, often not intended to be seen.. Painted in Battleship-grey. That's the Beauty!!
Altec A7's, McIntosh Mc 75's, McIntosh C20-all very industrial/utilitarian looking but a great looking set up. Like a chopped Model A with a Chrysler 331 hemi or an Olds 394. You know you have something special. Also any early B&O-look great but nearly impossible to fix.
Surely one of the best looking Integrated is the EAR Yoshino V12 Sometimes referred to as the 'Mickey Mouse" Phenomenal build, amazing looks and a listening experience to die for.
Wow I have heard of cars being Sexy ,but Audio equipment? The sound they produce with the right album or cd can be sexy but .Really ,that's a strange question.
I don't think the term "sexiest" is very good in this case but the combination of best looking and most spectacular looking components are for me mostly turntables. There are a lot of them.
Except TTs I also like the Sonus Faber speakers, some Avantgarde horn speakers and the Bayz Audio speakers. And of course the Métronome Kalista cd players.
