Song (or music) you want played at your funeral.

This is a variation on the "Favorite song" (or Classical composition) choice, as this title should in some way be related to mortality. Can you tell I'm approaching the end of mine? For me the choice is obvious; imo one of the three greatest songs I've ever heard (the other two being "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted" and "No Time To Cry"): "God Only Knows", music by Brian Wilson, lyrics by Tony Asher, recorded by The Beach Boys in 1965. Light years above what anyone else in Pop music (or even Classical and Jazz) was doing at the time (or has done since), including The gd Beatles.

Aliotta, Haynes and Jeremiah -- Long Time Gone
Silver Apples -- Whilybird
Beatles -- Across the Universe
Louis, Louis -- Kingsmen
Smash Mouth -- Walkin’ On The Sun
Allman Brothers -- Stand Back
Requiem Opus 9, by Maurice Durufle.

...followed by "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life" by Bruce Cockburn and Monty Python.
"The Living Years" (Mike & The Mechanics). Has always struck a chord with me & when I get there I'll sing it to my father in person.
I dated a sweet girl that wants Silver Wings by Merle Haggard played at her funeral.

I’ll never forget her telling me, it was probably fifteen years ago.

Not sure about mine, my brother will sing something I suppose. He knows my taste, he can choose...
Hmmm...I think about this often, having attended too many funerals and wakes over the years.  My grandmother requested “Ave Maria” at hers, and I always think of her when I hear it.  A friend died much too early back in the early 90s, and they played “Calling All Angels” by Jane Siberry.  I think I would like Warren Zevon’s “ Keep Me In Your Heart”.  Maybe Sly and the Family Stone “Life”, or Funkadelic “Can You Get To That”.
Surprised it has not been mentioned as yet. Had a friend that went into the biz, he wanted to have Stairway to Heaven playing in his place...why not?...
A lot of great ideas here, but I’ll go with You Can’t Always Get What you Want — my favorite scene from The Big Chill, with Kevin Costner in the box — what a cool extra!
"Surprised it has not been mentioned as yet. Had a friend that went into the biz, he wanted to have Stairway to Heaven playing in his place...why not?..."

And somebody in attendance can shout "Freebird"!

The great Warren Zevon  - My Ride is Here but sung by Bruce

i think it is on Enjoy Every Sandwich

a great philosophy of life

we are all just buying time
When I went to my Mothers funeral the reverend said- I'm going to play a song that was requested by Beatrice when she was still alive.
Then he motioned to someone to start the song, I had no idea what song she picked. Then i heard "I Have Friends In Low Places" by Garth Brooks!   Everybody chuckled as my Mother had cheered us up from beyond!
Tish
I just hope that we all don't die at the same time or there will be such an intolerable cacophony.
Meet On The Ledge - Fairport Convention or Richard Thompson solo
Keep Me In Your Heart For A While - Warren Zevon
If can I can do an album I would want
Robert Palmer - Sneaking Sally Through the AlleyThere should also be an open bar.

The Allman Brothers Band - Leave my Blues at HomeBar still open

Best would be a playlist then everyone could get a copy to play when they needed some good shit to play

@pehare
Into the mystic - Van Morrison

Great song denfinitly makes my playlist. I would use the
Gov't Mule cover from the 09 Huston House of Blues show. It's amazing

I want to be wrapped in bacon and thrown into an alligator pond .

Another one bites the dust
Across the universe
It’s called a “wake” because it originated as a vigil to make sure the person was really dead and didn’t “wake” up.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Israel Kamakawiwoʻole
As I hope mine to be a Christian funeral  the  best possible thing ever written
is Bach's Cantata  # 106, the title of which translated to English is , "Gods
Time is the Best .  "

Somehow , for me at least , I think that's better than a pagan party .
Send Lawyers, Guns and Money - Warren Zevon
Behind Blue Eyes- The Who
Too Late - Van Morrison

Easy:

"Procession of the Gladiators"

And.... I want some barflies to get into a huge fight over me during the service.  My friends will be in on the joke, but the family will be horrified.  The perfect send-off.

One of the Late Quartets by Beethoven, No.15 Opus 132 would
be my choice performed by Quartetto Italiano. A truly sublime piece. It would actually have to be performed by them at the funeral service. I would expect nothing less from my family and friends to organize it, considering how much I've done for them.
I’d like my wakers to join voices in a sing-along of “row row row your boat”,
done in rounds for 101 seconds.
A lot of great song choices listed here. Here's another good one from Judith Durham and the Seekers. Remember "Georgy Girl"? This one is called "I'll never find another you".
