Sad to see that generation of actors slowly fade away. They don't make them like that anymore, save for a few who have some connection to those times.
I liked him in The Man Who Would Be King, with Michael Caine. They were the progenitors of the buddy movie. The one that most don't know about is The Offense. Some say it's his best performance. In it, he plays a detective on the hunt for a child molester and during his interrogation, he beats the man to death.
That is not a spoiler but rather the set up as the movie then dives into what made him the kind of man who would do that. I haven't seen it in ages so I don't know how well it holds up but I remember being taken aback by it.
Someone said, i dont remember whom, that in Holliwood or in stardom only 2 characters, not only were not changed for the worse but were not and never changed at all : Lassie and Sean Connery....
James Bond...too cool for school! Saw all the early movies at the drive-in as my dad would only watch Bond on the big screen. Very fond memories. Also it's easy to forget how "racy" those movies were at the time. R.I.P. Sean
Oh yes, William of Baskerville in "The Name of the Rose". Will I ever forget that line, walking up to that monestary with his squire, the kitchen rubbish thrown down the side of the hill,... the unwashed poor scrambling to pick through it: "Another generous donation from the church to the poor." 😝 Just so on point! :-) M. 🇿🇦
I recall seeing Sean Connery in "Darby O’Gill and the Little People" back in the 1950’s at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. He was great then, and even better, as 007 in the James Bond series. Very sorry to know he's gone.
Apologies to any Roger Moore fans out there but Connery’s the only James Bond I can rewatch time and time again.
Weird also that the main representatives of masculinity I grew up with - John Wayne, Steve McQueen, Bruce Lee, Muhammad Ali, Sean Connery have all departed with no obvious replacements taking their place.
A lot of today’s representatives just seem like cardboard cutouts. Sorry Messrs Stallone, Diesel, Willis, Statham etc.

I have to say this The best actor that played a character and did the best job EVER was Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. "I'll be your huckleberry", best job ever....
