good idea we need to also pay attention to how our units smell.

I think you may be on to something there.

We know that smell is the sense that is most closely associated with memory and emotion, so why not add it to our listening experience to add a little virtual reality.

The smell of gunpowder to go with "The 1812 Overture"?

Stale beer odour for "Closing Time" by Semisonic?

Grilled onions for "Cheeseburger in Paradise" by Jimmy Buffett?

If I smell cannabis, I'll probably like the store.... 

Intoxicating like a new car smell.

My  unit always smells nice

Pavlovian.  We enjoy listening to music and shopping for gear, so the smells associated with those experiences elicit the same pleasure sensation 

Smells like money, as a friend of mine said about Houston in a slightly different context... 

My dad owned an audio store and took me with him to work on Saturdays. That smell caught me immediately- then he’d give me an old broken piece of gear to tinker with and I was hooked. That’s when it started. I was ~10, in the 60’s.

I miss the true audio stores from the 60's and 70's. I would hit one several times a year to peruse the latest gear I couldn't afford.
