Andrew Singer Of "Sound by Singer" passed away yesterday
I don't remember him but I bought a couple of items there including my first pair of Dynaudios... I think they may have been $1200 for the pair. I owned a small industrial business in Chelsea at the time and always wore jeans which could get dirty...
Moving into an apartment with wood joist floors - worried about neighbors hearing
I'd invest in a Sound Pressure Level meter for your own use and to use in your downstairs' neighbor's place if things get ugly. I was a co-op board president in NYC a while, that's a great tool for handling complaints.
Records and CDs
You would be surprised that if you are into current pop music, LPs are being released for a great many albums and sales are off the charts.  I'm going to use this excuse to rant, I don't understand this at all. Vinyl is not a particularly good wa...
Songs you use when auditioning gear
I have, from my youth, a few Sheffield Labs direct to disc LPs. There are a couple of Harry James big band LPs that are wonderful.
Starting a Classical Vinyl Music Collection
I would start another way. There are mammoth collections of CD editions of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven on Amazon. I mean dozens of discs for pennies a disc. Give them a listen, decide what you like and start your LP collections from there.  Like ...
Your Not-So-Obvious Best Fidelity LPs
Janis Ian 'At Seventeen'.
Your Not-So-Obvious Best Fidelity LPs
Curtis Mayfield 'Live'. Most Jeff Beck. Most Frank Zappa. For classical, just about anything on the Proprius and Arkiv labels.
Ripping CDs
@linnvolk many ways to do this from simple to not... just like playing ripped music. The simplest way would be to copy a few movies onto a USB stick which you would plug into your TV or HT amp and watch on your TV. Of course you can always wa...
Ripping CDs
@linnvolk you know you can rip DVDs just the way you rip CDs before you throw them out, right? That applies to BluRays as well as DVDs. 4ks are a little more involved.
Ripping CDs
I second dbPoweramp, the paid version. On the PC, a lot of folks use Exact Audio Copy (aka EAC). Having said that, ripping CDs is not for the faint of heart. There's a lot to know in terms of tagging the CDs properly, what file structure, etc. And...
Tidal FLAC vs. Qobuz
I have two Node 2i's and one Vault in three different places. I've never known them to be connected via Bluetooth. WiFi, yes, but not BT, I'm currently in front of my Mac Studio which is hardwired into my router, as is my Vault. Just for the fun o...
Anyone listen to Music on a FM tuner anymore?
Haven't had a tuner in a while, but my Marantz HT receiver has FM built in. I'm in NYC and we listen to WBGO (jazz) and WQXR (classical). Also 1010WINS when we wake up for news and weather. We stream but sometimes it's just easier to use FM as bac...
What to do with a large collection
If it's too much time and trouble to sell individually, give them to someone who will list them for you, let him pay you a commission.
Purchase on Audiogon arrived not as described
If this was UPS, generally the shipper files the claim. The rules are very specific and include seven sets of photos. However, in this case, UPS will deny the claim due to insufficient packaging. https://www.ups.com/us/en/support/file-a-claim/sup...
