Power Cord recommendations for a First Watt SIT3

Anyone with a SIT-3 have a power cord recommendation?

I recommend using the black rubber power cord which comes with the amp.  Do you really think Mr. Pass would select a power cord that compromises the sound of his amplifier.  I use two First Watt F3 amps with the included power cords and I find them to be just fine.

yep

if you have money burning hole in pocket, give to charity instead ... 😁

kingharold- To validate your comment, I've tried several cables, but keep coming back to the included power cord.

+1 jjss49! Power cords, power conditioners and fuses are nothing but Flat Earth Science - and I might add - so are footers!

Cool, good to know!   I guess I can now sell my IsoAcoustics Orea footers and Shunyata power cables because the differences I hear with them are not real :)

I've owned a couple Pass Labs amps (250.8 and 30.8) over the last few years and have preferred the stock cord that comes with them compared to the Shunyata cables I own.    I find the sound becomes too dark when I use my particular Shunyata cable for some reason with my Pass amps...

The stock Pass power cords are pretty beefy...

I've tried several different cords and each time I come back to stock Pass cord. In other amplifiers I've owned power cords have made a significant difference.

IMHE there is an inverse relationship between the quality of the power supply in your electronics and the sonic benefits of quality aftermarket cords. The better the power supply design and implementation the less need for better quality power cables.

I upgraded the power cord on my Pass amplifier.  I couldn’t hear any difference over the stock cord, but it made me feel better.  One less thing to worry about.

good point

Thanks everyone on this post, with feedback that meets of my budget.  $0.00 for upgrading a new chord to compliment my used SIT3.  I'm loving it, just that way it is!  :)

That sound like a placebo?

I cannot imagine much to worry about when running a Pass amp. One pretty much goes all in towards eliminating most chances for problems.

I would likely upgrade the power cord.  The cost of a 10 ga power cord is less than drinks with a friend.  I've seen power cords make a tremendous difference with smaller amps than this.

I don't own a pass amp. Can someone look at the information stamped on the sheath and post what gauge wire Pass uses in the power cord for this amp?

Jerry

Any amp with an IEC power inlet would give you a reason to experiment. The supplied cords that come with the gear, are good to start off with. However, there is more to be gained in a upgrade, specifically the gauge, as mentioned above. For that amp, I would go a 12 gauge. 10 gauge sounds too wooly and tubby with this amp, imo. Although I build my own, there are many cable design companies with starting prices below $100, again as stated above. Read the reviews by customers / owners of these cables. You will find a sound that " lets more in ". I am yet to find a supplied power cord that could not be bettered. If you know what to listen for.....Enjoy, my best. MrD

My 1976 Mcintosh MC2100 has a non removable power cord. I love the sound but wonder what's missing?

What gauge is the stock cord supplied with the pass amp? If I’m not mistaking it’s a 14 gauge power cord and it is not bad. However, I have owned two Pass Labs amps and both benefitted from a power cord upgrade.
I used Shunyata Taipan Alpha Helix with the X250.5 and had good results with Audience powerChord as well.
With the XA30.8 that I currently have all of the following power cords were an improvement over the stock cord: TWL Seven Plus, Acoustic Zen Krakatoa, Acoustic Zen Gargantua II, Furutech FP-S55N (currently on the amp).

FWIW I ended up keeping the Furutech on the amp and kept the TWL for preamp.

You won’t know until you try and hear it for yourself. The TWL cord comes up on used market once in a while, does not cost an arm and a leg and you can sell it and break even. Nothing to lose except keeping yourself wondering.

It probably sounds good with the stock cord but wow if you can't hear the change in sound from different power cords you need a new hobby.  I'm always like and I'm out on that guys opinion forever when they say power cords or any cords don't make a difference to the sound, and chances are they are just talking without any experience.  The Sit 3 will definitely respond to different power cords.  On the cheaper end of the spectrum I like the Audio Envy power cord.

YES !!! If your hobby is listen to power cords.

If your hobby is enjoy listening to music then you don't need to.

in the manual for my amp, mr pass clearly states that the amplifier is designed to perform well with the supplied power cable.

Why would people want to read the manual, when they have a snake oil preacher telling them what they might miss out on?

Pass is no dummy, so I am sure he looked at it… maybe not, but it sounds like it from the manual.

@coachpoconnor just curious…you’re asking for a power cord recommendation and respond to your own post by saying you tried various power cords and you always come back to the stock cord.
Can you list these power cords you tried with this amplifier? Or were you looking for a validation that it is impossible to hear the difference with this amplifier?

If I was you I’d try a Triode Wire Labs PC.  They have a great reputation, and you can just return it if it doesn’t provide meaningful benefits, but my bet is on TWL.

More expensive power cords sound better,  High End fuses improved sound also, audio power inlets , cable supporting staff is very very important, but   power cables need  to broke in  at least 100 hours for linear foot . LOL
