Get a secondhand Boulder amp. Their amps have always been in the top category.
Have JBL K2s...best Amp pairing please?
Fellow AGONers,
I have purchased a pair of JBL K-2s, as my "End Game", speakers. Need best advice on Amplification Pairing with the powerful horn Mids and Tweeters. Previously impressed with older McIntosh sound, now playing an AVM SA8- beautiful detail, imaging and soundstage over the Mac, but some music has very pronounced mids and highs. I'm curious about the new Audio Research SS gear about to come out, but if you've heard a Luxman M10X or the MAC 611s or other SS amps, would love to hear your assessments please. Want this to be my end game amplification as well, I'm not getting any richer or younger.
thanks all...steve
Good choice of speaker... imo, the Luxman M10X would be end game and the correct choice of amp for that speaker. While sounding immaculate, it can keep the JBL in check/ from offending you, in case you had some less optimal or terrible recordings sometimes. I have a the Lux near predecessor M900u and paired/studied it with different types of speakers.

Great speakers!! Maybe the MC2301 1-Channel Vacuum Tube Amplifier Mike |
I have always wanted to hear them as they have berillium speakers in them.enjoy that.jbl has a fantastic research team with great sound testing.i love my ultimate salon. Be great if you had some audio club of brick and morter that would let you try amps.upscale audio and crutchfield do .upscale audio carries jbl. Enjoy the search. |
Awesome speakers. I’d add Coda, Krell to the list. The Coda # 16 is within your budget, it ain’t cheap but you would have to spend at least 2x to get the same build quality. Think it would land right in your sweet spot for the sound signature you are looking for. The Krell XD gear would also be great but a tad bit warmer. Boulder makes incredible gear as well. Accuphase would be another great option to consider next to Luxman. PS Audio BHK Mono’s also offer a lot of what it sounds like you are looking for. |
