Custom Window Sound Blockers

I was today years old when I realized they made press-in sound blocking solutions for windows.  I have never heard them so I need a well-heeled guinea pig from A'gon to please try them out and report back.

Thanks for this. Very cool. Im on a very quiet street but the pane window behind my system is huge 8'8" x 6' 8", sonically a negative, especially with Open Baffle speakers. I have thought to apply fake brick panels, but preparing to sell, but I have Japanese screens breaking up a lot of the problem

For very large windows/sliding doors, there are sound blocking drapery that is used in hotels/motels that can absorb some of the sound.  Search Amazon for sound proof curtains.

@tweak1 these panels are insulating, but probably very reflective.

The curtains seem better for you

This is getting ridiculous day by day Squires. A few days ago you were suggesting exercise and now custom tuned window tweaks? What you really need is a custom tuned speaker. The speakers are usually the weakest link. Not the windows I'm afraid.

@kenjit

Now that Squires cleaned his ears he can hear all that noise, now that he unblocked his ears he wants to block his windows, I get it.

I remember these going on the outside of the window. They were called 'storm windows', if I recall.😉.

Bob

If only folks outside would just stop making noise. Not just the windows. Wooden homes are a challenge with sheets of OSB acting as resonant soundboards.

Yes, the modern window inserts can be very effective at reducing noise coming in or going out.  And, they also add another layer of air for insulation, for good measure.

$480 for one 4'h x 2 1/2' w.  One.

Edging looks like a variant of 'shower door seal':

Even cheaper if you browse....Buy acrylic from Hone Despot or on the Lowes' down....better direct from a wholesaler....

I'd get down dirty and try some backer rod....thicker sheet stock less likely to sympathetically pickup but will reflect indoors really well...

If you've storm windows, why aren't you using them first?  Stuff thin dia. backer around the edges...

Or...move. *G*

ND is quiet...almost 'too'.....one keeps waiting for any sort of noise. ;)

Not 'handy'?

Drapes, lined, close as poss. to window......

Good variable factors. 👍

Ouch!! I'm going to have to give up a power cord if I want to reduce the outside noise in my living room.  🤣

@erik_squires    sounds like the old 'extension cord out the window' to me... *G*

Gonna have to plug that hot tub in somewhere else... ;) *L*

or.....is it 'incoming power', while the wiring is being 'angel hair' while renovating the audio power station?

These things are known to occur....been there, burnt the shirt....;)

OP

This is a very expensive product unfortunately and further there is noise coming through the walls so just blocking the windows doesn’t solve the problem.

Curtains are a great choice but its a real pain to install since you have to remove what you had there to begin with.

Landscaper Leaf blowers are an absolute nightmare as they continuously create noise throughout the summer. Absolutely horrifying. You can’t even walk outside and hold a conversation anymore it’s horrible

Recently while visiting a family member in the hospital I noticed the curtain between the two beds was some sort of really effective sound blocking fabric. It also absorbed conversation on the side we were on which felt strange. It killed practically all reflected sound even with a wall of windows right there.

John Darko just put up a video about curtains that were supposed to absorb sound and his experience with them....

@jumia I can't understand why these creeps are tolerated. I'm amazed there hasn't been reports of an escalation involving weapons.

...I owe Erik a sincere 'cuse me about cables v. Cables...spent the day pull 'n pushing them in an rv renovation, so my minimal mind wuz mostly into keeping the 12dc close and the 110 not so... ;)

And absolutely likely, Draperies!  Best bang for the buck....or inversely, Quiet for the cash, and style to suit ones' prefs for the listening space...and one can layer for effect, acoustic and Arch. Digest if that's a thing... *S*

@dekay mmmm if @jumia  hates 'Those who blow' Now....Fly-able ones?

By the by, have you seen the anti-drone 'weaponry' available?
My fav is the one that shoots a net....no clumsy flying involved nor waste of fuel. ;)

"Russia's still....so...'fifties'," and not in a nice way....flying around, bumping into things....  But watch the dashcams....Predictable. *tsk*

MLP?  Nah, better in the bath; better?  None at all. *L*

Actually, think 'tapestry.  A couple, or best, 3 on both sidewalls...Killa. ;)

The did a knock down across the street and are building two houses and the noise has been annoying, to say the least. We have vertical blinds on the three windows and they don’t cut it!

Gang,

I do think these are too expensive, but on the other hand they let in all the light, which at least in my home is a big deal.  I like daylight and lots of it.

They should work as intended--another pane to block sound, the pane itself made of a non-resonating material, and a good rubber gasket for air isolation.  Also, acrylic is much better a passing light than is glass.  Only downside is that it scratches easily so one has to be careful about cleaning (only soft cotton towels-no paper towels or tissue).

As for reflecting the sound in the room, at least you will not have to worry about the panel itself buzzing and it might absorb some high frequency energy.

I have a condo facing a busy street and the car noises start too early in the morning for me. I can’t change the windows, so I’m looking into getting some window inserts to reduce the noise. Right now I’m looking at Indow and Castle Window Covers.

If you have gotten either these or similar products, who did you order from and how much did it help with noise, if at all?
