Best short-lived band?

1) Derek and the Dominoes
2) Stephen Stills Manassas
3) Orleans

? Mark and the Mysterians. Who performed 96 Tears, which is one great tune.
Thanks Ohnwy61, I am aware of those by Baerwald and now that you have said good things I will have to pick up a couple of these and have a listen!
13th Floor Elevators The psycedelic sound of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators in 1966 and then Easter Everywhere in 1967 before Roky Erickson was arrested for drug use and locked up in a mental institution for schizophrenia.
I hear Blind Faith several times, I hear the Ginger Baker trio, what about the CREAM !!!
The Romantics. "What I Like About You" is still such a great tune...makes me smile everytime I hear it - even if being used in a commercial.
Look for Susan Rhatigan's "To Hell with Love" ... blues-pop-rock, kind of a refined Janis Joplin sound.
Savoy Brown - the version that made "Raw Sienna". Have to agree with Blind Faith, Little Village and Derek and the Dominos for fantastic one offs.

Also, the first touring version of Steely Dan - circa "Can't Buy a Thrill". This is a hard one because Fagen and Becker have been around so long, but this particular band was an inspiration.
The Commitments
Moby Grape
Blind Faith
Mountain
Big Brother and The Holidng Company (Janis Joplin)
Blind Faith, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and last, but certainly not least, Rick and the Raiders for that beloved classic, Hang on Sloopy! After all, one can hardly call tBDBitL from tOSU a short lived band. Oops, maybe I'm posting this on the wrong forum.
the britpop band "The La's". great album, did one never satified and disapeared from music for 20 some odd yrs. if you can find it give it a spin.
Yeah, the La's, forgot about that really short lived band. Scousers' finest, even better than the Beatles, The Liver birds, River City People, The Kop, Emlym Hughes, Neverton FC,
and not forgetting Cilla Black, now there was a voice.
Sorry for this bit of UK rambling.
"One and Dones" are a unique subset of short-lived bands.
The La were a good one, as was Little Village, mentioned above. I'd add The New Radicals to the this list.

OK, I've seen Little Village mentioned a couple of times now, and IMHO they don't fit the bill. I think of them more as a Supergroup composed of 4 of the best in the business, i.e. Cooder, Hiatt, Keltner and Lowe.

Although I own the CD and listen to it on occassion, I think the whole is way less than the sum of the parts.

Heck, If we're going to include "bands" like Little Village, I'll through Rockpile into the mix......

Enjoy,

TIC
Reubent,

Little Village might not have realized their full potential (IMHO - the same is true of another popular choice - Blind Faith) but they were still a lot of fun. As to Rockpile - they do belong on this list - and i mentioned them last summer. Why not?

Marty
Matching Mole, Henry Cow, Hatfield and North, Tuxedo Moon, Egg, Art Bears, Soft Machine, Japan
Legion of Mary - so intense in concert. Wish I could remember more of it ;-)
Bobby and the Midnights
Gentle Giant
Robin Trower
Tommy Bolin
Buffalo Springfield maybe? The spring board for CSN&Y and Poco. Maybe not the best short lived band but they were certainly a very influential band from the folk/rock fusion genre of the mid 60's.
Blind Faith. For sure. Absolutely. Not even close. "Do What You Like" is worth the price of admission on it's own. Ginger Baker's solo is BY FAR the best rock solo of that era...probably of all time. And don't go all Neil Pert on me.
The original Paul Butterfield Blues Band. First and only time everyone in the Filmore was up dancing.
Look through the thread and you will see remnants of them scattered throughout. They were the original spawn of so much music.
Sex Pistols - one record really...HUGE impact and one of the best rock records ever made...
stormtroopers of death! (did more for metal with one record than megadeth ever did)

sex pistols

derek & dominos

buffalo springfield

original lineup of the pretenders; after that, they were just pretending.
Alice in chains... No doubt they lingered for about 7 years, with no real backing concert tours, and a few albums, but they were never really a band due to many obstacles, and still accomplished a lot of great music . And they were the first to really hit the scene from the "Grundge" capital, not nirvana.
Not vying for "Best" how about just "Some" short lived bands..............Beck Bogert & Appice, Dixie Dregs, Masters of Reality, Baker-Gurvitz Army, U.K. ,Sea Level,Charlie

I had fun going thru my collection.
Yeah, they're not deep or philosophical, but they put out some of the best pop rock I've heard.
The Zombies or The Fugs. By the way, was watching a rerun of the Johnny Cash show the other day - Derek and the Dominos was one of the guests- and they did a tune with Carl Perkins , Johnny Cash, and Eric Clapton playing side by side.
