Why aren’t there many used cables on the market?

We know good cables are extremely expensive and used cables would seem a good thing to buy.

My dealer never has used cables and also conveyed to me that the more expensive cables carry profit margin of 80%.

So $5000 cables yield a.profit for both manufacturing dealer by $4000. Was stated that these cables arent bought very often. Mostly the cheaper cables between 400 and 900 are purchased.
Obviously not a lot of money selling used cables and I think manufacturers may not allow their dealers to sell used cables.

+1 for Hifishark.

Just input your filters and see what is available. The best part is you can look at previous sales, in order to get an idea of what the cables are going for.

There are always lots of used cables for sale on USAM. New ones are added every day.

I thought this post was a joke the net is lousy with used cables and back in the day I had a used cable problem I'm now 15 years clean. 😎

@curiousjim The only USB A to B I have is the DH Labs Mirage. It is just as good as the one I sold which cost about 10x more.

Go to hifishark.com — always lots of cables for sale there on multiple sites.

@curiousjim Check this USB cable out.  Separates power and data legs and much less expensive than others…

@curiousjim Skip the AQ Carbon and go with a DH Labs Mirage USB. The Carbon is very dull and closed in in comparison.

To the OP, there are only a few brands of cables that will offer dealers that kind of profit margin, the majority of cable manufacturers don’t price like that. But still, there are lots of cables on the market. Though you might not find the one you are specifically searching for, it will likely pop up within a month or two of watching.

But basically I find that many folks I know are too lazy to sell off cables unless they can net more than $500-$1K on them and instead collect their extras in storage bins. And the ones they can net considerably more on aren’t made in bulk as you say and don’t last on the market long unless they’re overpriced.

I've purchased all my cables used.

I have no idea what the OP is talking about.

@emergingsoul

Your right! I’ve even looking for a USB a to b and there are very few. I’d like to get an AQ I meter Carbon and it looks like they don’t make it. Same with the Nordost Blue Heaven.  They don’t make a 1 meter.
If anyone sees a legit 1.5 meter AQ Carbon a to b USB or a 1.5 meter Nordost Blue Heaven at half price, please let me know. Crutchfield has none and Music Direct has a Nordost open box ( that I may have to buy)

Thanks all.

I’m sure it depends on what brand and level you looking for. Usually when we are searching for a particular thing we don’t see it until we don’t want it anymore.

Yep, Usedcables.com is a nice site, run by The Cable Company…..or….for sometimes better deals, US Audio Mart, or even here on Agon.

"My dealer never has used cables and also conveyed to me that the more expensive cables carry profit margin of 80%"

- Your dealer is not being straight with you.

"Obviously not a lot of money selling used cables and I think manufacturers may not allow their dealers to sell used cables."

- That has not been my experience.

Let's see

Audiogon has 326 listings (new & used ) to browse - take a look for used

USAudiomart has ads for 293 RCA cables and 192 XLR interconnects

UsedCable.com 131

Try looking

There always seems to be hundreds for sale at UsedCables. I can usually find what I want when I have been looking for used.
