which power cable and USB cable for my Innous Zenith Mk3?

had a chance to grab a used  Zenith MK3 at a crazy good price

this thing kind of looks and feels cheapish  but no worries, not unexpected and did not buy it to look good in a rack

Im getting the impression it would benefit from a good power cord and USB cable

would like to keep each under $500

any recommendations from Zenith owners would be appreciated

IMO--Get a PC that is sturdy and well made. Power cords have never been proven to increase sonic pleasure. I'm not sure about the USB cable, as I have never needed one.

Good luck..

IMO--Power cords "Have Proven" to increase sonic pleasure, and I'm living proof of it, Lol!!!.

@audiocanada missing few data points

what DAC are you using

what type of sound are you trying to achieve

Are you looking for a more open sound or trying to get a warmer presentation?

@kennymacc

Where is the proof? Because you said so. The light brown paint on my walls gives me sonic pleasure.. Please point me towards ONE statistically relevant test that indicates that PC's have a sonic impact--Just ONE...

I'm glad you have found sonic nirvana but giving false information to fellow members is misleading.

Cheers,

@grunge1000

The proof is......me.  And yes, because I said so.  And, the only thing that's misleading is your buffoonery.  Now, go stand in front of a mirror, and argue with yourself, Lol!!!!

I have the same Innuos. It may not look like much, but it sounds amazing!

I am using a Nordost Heimdall 2 power cord and a Shunyata Delta 2 Ethernet cord. Very revealing without over analyzing. Both make a huge difference.

I have the Zenith MKIII. It came to me with a Transparent USB cable which I replaced with a WireWorld Platinum, OCC silver. This was a significant upgrade. I also put a WW Silver Electra power cable on it, but I did not notice any significant improvement from that change.

My Innuos zenith mk3 uses a USB cable over $700. Connecting it directly to the dac was not the answer. Once I got a DDC, connected the USB to it and came out of it with I2s to dac, a veil was lifted. The sound clarity was so much better, it stunned me.

Like @grunge1000 , I was skeptical of how power cables could affect the SQ of a system for the first 2 decades of  being an audiophile.  Everyone can hear the differences in components, and intercommects, and speaker cables.  I couldn't understand why power cords would make a difference.  I even tried switching out power cords, and I didn't hear any difference.  However, many people commented about the effect of power cords on SQ, so I tried upgraded power cords ($100-$300), and I heard no difference.  However, just last month I tried markedly upgraded power cords ($2000+), and I easily heard a significant difference when plugged into my pre-amplifier.  When I plugged these cords into my amplifier, the difference was not obvious.  Consequently, I now will have to agree with @kennymacc that power cords can make a difference in SQ, but not always for every component and not every power cord.  The most prominent improvement in SQ that I heard was when used into my pre-amplifier.  As for which power cords?  I would have to say that it's like interconnects:  trial and error is the only way to really konw!

I use a Stealth Tunable USB and a AQ Tornado source power cord

snd sounds very good ,the New Stealth tunable is great you can literally add bass or lessen fine tune the detail. Anthony at Perrotta audio consultants  gives solid deals .

Grunge1000  what does your audio system consist  of ?

if you can’t  hear the difference  in quality. Power cords

then it’s either the quality of your equipment ,ears or both.
if it were not so 95+% of all Audiophiles wouldnot be doing it.

@baylinor

Which DDC do you have?  Next question:  what cable are you running from the DDC to your DAC?.

Thanks!

I have a Zen MK3.  Got a great USB cable from Pine tree Audio online to connect to my DAC.  Picked the length and color.  I got my Ethernet cable to connect to my router from Blue Jeans Cable.  Again made to order length and they test the cable and include the test results.  I suggest contacting Innuos if you’re thinking about changing the power cable.  I believe they have options for  upgrading power sources.

More equipnent info can be seen in my house of stereo system. My entire streaming system is pretty complex and not cheap. But incredibly worth it.

@mihorn  How about stopping with interjecting into every thread no matter the topic your sales pitch of how great your products are. It's annoying to say the least

I have a Cardas and Nordost blue USB. Everyone I’ve a/b’d them for agrees that the Nordost sounds better. Power cables can be more subjective. Shunyata is a safe beybet.

I have no experience with the Zenith—although I have ordered a Stream 1, but I have found Ice Age Audio power cables to be excellent products.  I cannot say that they “transformed my system to a higher plane,” but they are well built and both of my Odyssey mono bloc amplifiers and both of my Rhythmik subs are doing a great job of providing sound of excellent quality with them.  And, … they are reasonably priced and made here in the USA.

I have a Zenith mk3 and I agree the build is not what I’d like. It looks nice enough from a distance though. And the sound is so good that I don’t mind the build so much.

A few months ago I started experimenting with digital to digital converters, to convert USB to AES/EBU. I find that at least with my particular DAC (ModWright Elyse) the AES/EBU input notably much better than USB. Tried a few DDCs and ended up with a Weiss INT204 that I love.

I am using Veritas Cables Praesto for power and a Veritas Nexum A for AES/EBU, along with their Connexa for ethernet. I intend to add their Audax USB when it is back in stock. At the moment I'm just using an older Wireworld USB that is probably a bottleneck. It seems like the Zenith mk3 responds well to cable upgrades so I'm happy with the results.

I have also tried Ice Age Audio power cables and found them to be excellent products.

My two cents is that a lot of the differences with cables and power cables is noticeable immediately and then, after a bit, you can't remember the difference. In other words, the differences are slight so the questions are how much you want to spend to get slight improvements and is your system revealing enough to warrant the expenses.

So when I've done improvements in cables and power cords, I either find a great dealer like Ice Age and also Pine Tree that were both mentioned above who give great stuff at reasonable prices or I look for used products.

Keeping prices sensible i would say for PC grab a Puritan Classic + and USB a Chord Epic. I use this combo on my Z3.
