Ambrosia - Somewhere I've Never Travelled
|
@noromance i saw a lightly used T/5X listed on The Music Room site the other day
|
Single sub guy here too. REL S510. Similar corner setup. Works great, IMO very well integrated.
No vinyl tonight. Actually just received my very first SACDs today… Tears For Fears: Songs From The Big Chair and Yes: Close To The Edge Steve Wilson remix. Not going to replace vinyl by a long shot, but very enjoyable! And I will admit it was kind of nice not having to flip a record every 12 minutes!
|
@tgilb Nils sounded great last night! I only made it through the first disc, hopefully I'll play the second one tonight. I've been going through my collection and play grading everything that I don't already have catalogued in Discogs and am still working my way through ELO. ELP is next! It's been a lot of fun.

Nancy Harrow – Anything Goes (Audiophile 1979)

Roy Harper – The Sophisticated Beggar (Science Friction 2019)
Reissue, Remastered. Autographed. I bought this at a gig and today is the first time I played it. SpinCleaned. I have the original and I was interested in hearing the remaster. Sounds pretty good for a digital notwithstanding the usual glare. However, the vinyl has more noise than the almost worn out 1967 original I have. It’s acceptable and not a big deal but it’s indicative of the current process.
|
Up next is the Calling Cadence lp. I only read about it from the email ad from Elusive Disc. Sounded appealing.
Now dry and out of the Vibrato, the vinyl feels nice but isn’t solid black. sort of a milky black that hasn’t been mixed well.
Side one. Similar to later MFSL pressings with thicker vinyl, you need to turn up the volume to get the correct listening setting on this record. The soundstage, in my room, doesn’t go wider than the outer edge of my speakers. The presentation seems more forward than I’m use to.
Side two. The vinyl is a tiny bit ticky. Could be the lack of a good mix?? haha??
Something is bothering me about how the engineers mixed the album, humm. This record just doesn’t blow me away.
There are a few good songs that oddly remind me of Trigger Hippy vibe....
I wouldn't buy this record now if I had that initial choice back.

The Green Pajamas "Summer of Lust"
1984/ Green Monkey Records
|
Arrived today,
The Dirty Knobs "External Combustion"
I doubt if this is as good as their first. Hope I'm wrong. Had to have it!
|
Don't remember who mentioned The Green Pajamas but thanks! Thoroughly enjoying this.
|
Andy Sheppard Quartet-Surrounded by Sea. ECM.
Really lovely record that moves very gently with lots of space and air typical of ECM label stuff. But it does picks up a bit energetically here and there. The title is indicative of how this record feels listening to it, like sitting on the beach watching waves with good company. Overall intimate and relaxed but compelling musical conversation to listen in on.

The Delines "The Imperial"

Well, it’s tax day. Spent all day on mine. Thus a nice chunk of change lightened my wallet. And to make things worse, I realized I hadn’t made a payment in January, as I usually do….not sure how that happened. Oh well….so….this only made sense as my first selection today.
The Beatles - Revolver. Apple reissue 1975, originally 1966

Well Brian, I’m glad I bought those mono blocks before doing my taxes. I probably would have hesitated 😁

Frank Zappa And The Mothers Of Invention – One Size Fits All (Discreet 1975)

Well, so much for the tax doldrums. Just posted today on US Audio Mart that got my immediate attention, an Sbooster linear power supply that will work with my Hagerman Trumpet. Looks to be in almost new condition for $250 shipped. A great deal. So, bought it. Have been looking at these new at Upscale for some time now, this is over $150 less than new. Couldn’t let that slip through my hands.
Todd Rundgren - Something / Anything ? Rhino/Bearsville reissue 1987 2LP set, originally 1972

@slaw
Glad you are liking the Green Pajamas LP, Steve!
Aren't the Delines wonderful? Songwriter WIlly Vlaut is also a novelist. I plan to read at least a couple of his books as soon as summer break arrives and I have time to read something other than freshman essays!

Had my local shop order me a Grado mono cart recently and finally got around to mounting it. Got a list of monaural disks lined up, starting with this beaut:
