+1 on Bobby Sutliff

Love those Windbreakers albums. I need to devote more time to his solo records. Thanks for the tip.

Steve,

It's a pp, but unfortunately, I am going to have to send it back to the seller. Just got it today and side two is badly worn and noisy, despite a deceptively clean surface appearance. It was rated NM, clearly on visual inspection only. Oh well, that's the danger of buying on eBay. Usually, I have better luck. I'll find a better one.

Weather Report -- "Mysterious Traveler"

@slaw

Good to see you're getting some quality listening time during your recovery process, Steve. Gotta get on that Marty Stuart record!

I am indeed a huge fan of McMurtry, who I think is as good as any songwriter currently out there.

I agree his live albums are excellent, this one and Live in Europe from 2009. His studio albums are also great. You can find his new one, "The Horses and the Hounds," as well as "Childish Things" pretty easily on vinyl, both good pressings to my ears. Others are a little harder to find or pricier, and I do not believe the "Best of the Sugar Hill Years" has ever been released on vinyl, although I play it as much as any McMurtry I own and hope someday it will be.

Lucinda Williams used to write songs as indelible as McMurtry's, but she doesn't anymore. But McMurtry is as good as ever. If you get a chance to go see him, don't pass it up.

That is about the finest description of a band that I've ever read on this site. I do not doubt at all that Willy Vlautin was influenced by both Ford and Carver, which makes me look forward even more to reading his books in a couple of months when my workload lightens. Thanks for that, and glad you are enjoying the Delines! I think I'll go put them on right now.

@slaw

Glad you are liking the Green Pajamas LP, Steve!

Aren't the Delines wonderful? Songwriter WIlly Vlaut is also a novelist. I plan to read at least a couple of his books as soon as summer break arrives and I have time to read something other than freshman essays!

Wussy -- "Left for Dead"

The Band -- S/T

Billie Holiday -- Complete Verve Box Set (LP 5)

Lydia Loveless -- "Real"

The Handsome Family -- "Singing Bones"

Strata Institute -- "Cypher Syntax" (Steve Coleman and Greg Osby on alto sax) a very nice record indeed

Rodrigo Y Gabriela -- "Mettavolution"

If you want to take your system out for a fun little stroll into sonic wonderland, this will do the trick.

Thanks for the nice comments on the VAC, everyone. It makes some lovely music.

@slaw

Steve, I sold the Luxman to a lucky fellow in California. I have nothing but great things to say about it. So many flavors of ice cream in this hobby. Let's just say the VAC is a flavor that I really, really enjoy! Glad you'll be returning home soon.

Ben Webster -- "King of the Tenors"

Rolling Stones -- "Exile on Main Street"

Oliver Nelson -- "Straight Ahead"

Very nice day of spinning records and listening through my newest love interest, the VAC Renaiisance phono stage SE. Just wonderful sound!

I am wondering if the tube in the weak channel may not have been fully seated? If it was bad tube, it should have followed to the other speaker when you switched them.

Van Morrison, "Avalon Sunset"

Sparklehorse, "Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain"

Sparklehorse, "It's a Wonderful Life"

Egberto Gismonti, "Danca das Cabecas"

Nice box, Steve. I've bought several albums from Vinyl Me Please, all first rate.

Now playing:

Massive Attack, "Mezzanine"

Steve, the Green Pajamas are a shapeshifting band if ever there was one. Their albums  each of have their own distinct sonic signature. Summer of Lust leans toward the garage band sound, less polished or produced than some of their others, but I still like it.

Brian, I'd recommend Phantom Like: Northern Gothic, Poison in the Russian Room, or If You Knew What I Dreamed to get started, and if you like any or all of those, start exploring. They've been around for 35 years or so, so it is indeed a pretty extensive catalog.

@slaw

Excellent, Steve! Which one did you order?

I look forward to your impressions and hope you enjoy their music as much as I do!

@sbank

You sure do, Spencer! It's great, and a nice pressing, too.

I bet you'd enjoy that Green Pajamas LP as well. I knew nothing about them at all until a friend directed me to their music last summer. I'd call it my find of the year. Now I have five or six of their records and love them all!

@slaw

Steve, I think this is Neil's best album in a long while. Highly recommended!
