Are Expensive Balanced Interconnects Necessary?
The best way to solve this, IMO, is to do what I did, which is buy the same exact cables, one set with balanced XLR and the other set with RCA (WBT RCA in my case) and test them back and forth in your system in your room with your ears. When I did...
Kanta No.1 vs Olympica Nova 1?
I have heard both in the last two weeks while demo'ing new speakers myself and they both sound really good. However, I prefer the Sonus faber sound myself. That said the fit and finish of the Olympica Nova are light years ahead aesthetically in my...
Which pair of speakers changed your Hifi life?
Wilson X-1 Grand SLAMM. I never owned a pair, but when I was young and returned home after college I went looking for a new stereo to move into my place with. Knowing nothing back in the late 90's I randomly walked into the first stereo shop I fou...
Boutique or Big Brand?
@kingdeezie good food for thought. I think, out of my original seven "thoughts", I am going to go with the Sonus faber I was thinking about. I heard the Sonetto V and liked them. I also feel for the money they offer a bit of beauty and have trick...
most beautiful (looking) speakers
@henry53 isn't that what makes Tannoy endearing though?
Boutique or Big Brand?
@hilde45 Salk is gorgeous, hence my consideration. How do they sound?
Boutique or Big Brand?
Thank you all for your responses. A lot to think about here. @missioncoonery &  @mofojo I agree and am tempted by getting a "better" speaker, and a used pair of Sonus faber would allow me to move up the line from the Sonetto V I am considerin...
Boutique or Big Brand?
@grislybutter @james633 & @ghdprentice Thank you all for taking the time to reply with your insights. @dreas & @mapman thank you for giving me additional questions to think about. That's why I am here. @audioguy85 the Tannoy Stirli...
rca plugs - comparisons?
I have the same exact Kimber Kables, one set terminated with Switchcraft XLR and one set terminated with WBT. After a few moths of switching back and forth I have settled on using the single-ended WBT, they just sound better to me.
Is a separate phono pre really necessary?
I agree with @retiredfarmer When I had a Schiit Freya+ I needed a separate phono stage and bought a Tavish Adagio. It sounded great with my VPI table. Once I upgraded to my current McIntosh preamp the built in phono stage sounded better to me so...

Contemplating DEVORE SPEAKERS (and others)....LONG audition report of many speakers
@prof you must have had a lot of fun doing all this listening... Jealous!
Audiophiles on Audiogon.
Ummm, maybe we just enjoy chatting about audio systems the way "car-guys" stand around at car club meetings staring at each other's engines every weekend. I may not enjoy that, but I wouldn't call them "kooks". They're enjoying themselves. Howeve...
180g new vs. NM used
I agree with @rdk777 and have gotten burned on "NM" or other ratings on both discogs and Amazon used records. So for the last year have only purchased new.  That said, it kills me what they charge these days... I don't need the $200 boxed set of ...
most beautiful (looking) speakers
From what I've seen in person the Bowers and Wilkins Nautilus sea shells are absolutely gorgeous, as are most of Sonus faber speakers.
