Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

Spencer - Ya Man on the Ray Brown disc ( Jeton ) it is typically very pricey..but imo worth it.

Lindley / El Rayo-X - Win this Record

Jim

Saw The Cars/Derringer/Little River Band on what might have been the Cars first tour as headliner, ~’78-79 at The Spectrum in Philly, or as Billy Joel likes to call it, "The Rectum". It was promoted as a September "Back to School Special" concert for $3.50/ticket. Even inflation adjusted, that’s pretty cheap!

CSN&Y - So Far (best of)

Bach - Janos Starker – Suites For Unaccompanied Cello Complete
(Speakers Corner / Mercury Box)

@bslon Bill, for me, I would probably rank their albums like this:

1 - The Cars

2 - Heartbeat City

3 - Candy-O

4 - Panorama

5 - Move Like This

6 - Door to Door

7 - Shake it Up

When Heartbeat City came out I thought they had "sold out" with the slick production and pop songs.  I got burnt out hearing so much of it on the radio and MTV, so let's say that I didn't have the same appreciation for it that I do now.

It's those very same things - the exquisite production and amazing songcraft that lead to so much enjoyment when I listen to it now.

Carolyn Hester – Carolyn Hester (Tradition 1961)

Pug Horton – Don't Go Away (Bodeswell 1979)

John Haley Sims, Harry Sweets Edison – Just Friends (Pablo 1980)

Aurora – A Different Kind Of Human, Step 2 (Glassnote 2019)

@big_greg Hey Greg, nostalgia definitely figures into our rankings. Me (and friends) about wore out their first 2 LPs when they came out. Seems HC did that for you, agree that the production was pretty slick. I moved SIU up the list over the years because the keyboard work sounds so good on my system. I like that you’re a fan too, as are others.

@sbank Spencer, I’ve seen a few of their shows too, the first time at the Portland Paramount Theatre as a promo for The Cars S/T by KGON FM 92 for 92¢. I wish they’d bring back those prices. 😂😭

BTW, spellcheck turned Ric to Rick earlier if you caught that…

Heartbeat City is excellent, and I think that Panorama is, too.  All of their albums are wonderful, but those two are my favorites.  So glad I have them.  They are surprisingly well done in all regards for SQ (mixing, mastering, Plating/pressing). I have Candy-O on Nautilus half-speed master as well.  Pretty darn good!

Like some here I did get burned out on too much Cars played on the radio.  Some years later, and played on a good high-fidelity system, they are now an entirely different level for me, both musically and sonically.

I accidentally hit Post without first checking the box that I'm Not a Robot.  I think my computer may start to smoke or something...

Just catching up... Wow, you guys have been playing some great music. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Reubent, I lived kind of close to Clemson for a few years in the late 90's. Crazy little town. They seem to like football a little bit...

The Gene Harris Quartet with Jeff Hamilton, Ray Brown, and Ron Escheté. Listen Here! Concord Jazz 1989

Blues Control / Valley tangents

Hey Brian (bkeske),

What Lambchop album or albums did you listen too?

@boxer12

I listened to most of ‘How I Quit Smoking’, and then switched over to ‘Nixon’. Two very different but interesting albums. But it seems, all their albums may be different from one another to a degree.

Destroyer – City Of Daughters (Merge 2018)

Tomas Örnberg's Blue Five – Come Back, Sweet Papa (Stomp Off 1989)

Franz Lehár - Kölner Rundfunk Chor Und Orchester – Paganini (RCA Victrola 1978)

Roger Waters / Amused To Death
2015 Analogue Productions, orig. 1992 Columbia

Thanks for the Cars education, guys! I also burned out on them from too much airplay back in the day, and will do some hunting and dig in.

Fleetwood Mac - Tusk

Small Faces – Big Music: A Compleat Collection (They needed a better singer! hey, I'm trying)

Fleetwood Mac - Then Play On

The The Infected.

King Crimson,  Larks' Tongues in Aspic

The Pixies,  Beneath the Eyrie

Tom Tom Club, Close To The Bone

@femoore12 Local Hero is one of my “go to” records that I put on when I can’t figure out what I want to listen to! I need to upgrade to that 1/2 speed mastered version one of these days.

Genesis-The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 1974 ATCO “Porky/Pecko” press
