Bernstein conducts Prokofiev - Symphony No. 5. New York Philharmonic. Columbia Masterworks 1967
|
ahhh...the life well lived....... |
Streaming "Apogee" now. It’s a kick. I can see what you mean about this being uplifting - when you’re in the mood for the sound of saxophone. |
Dan Fogelberg - "High Country Snows"
Saw it mentioned recently. Thanks for the reminder @nicks25 . Got my nice NM- copy at the beginning of 2020 in the great 8 for $1 inventory reduction sale at a LRS. Pretty darn good, especially for 12 cents... |
Steve, Here’s a chorus for ya:
“Of all the things I value most in life I see my memories and feel their warmth And know that they are good You know that I should”
- Spiral Architect Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

Jim Webb -- Letters De Falla -- Nights in the Gardens of Spain. Kubelik, Bavarian Radio Symphony, on an old DGG. |
I was watching the new Monty Python 6 episode documentary and was reminded that on one of the vinyl albums was a double track on one of the sides. Depending on where the stylus tracks it will play a completely different set of tracks.
It's on the album Matching Tie & Handkerchief, side 2. It's difficult in that they named both sides, side 2. So it's a lot of good fun trying to find the hidden track. :)
|
Been a long time since I heard that one James. |
“Apogee” sounds like a very good recording to me. Bright and tight. Great separation. And whew! These guys can play. |
@guakus, +1 for Monty Python records. |
Warmer Milks / Radish on light This one is for the adventurous (only) |

I wonder if I'm the first person in history to play Dan Fogelberg - "High Country Snows" followed by Courtney Barnett -
"Tell Me How You Really Feel"... on Red Vinyl... on a Red Pro-Ject Turntable... |
Atlanta Rhythm Section "Champagne Jam" I got this after it was mentioned on this thread, earlier this year.
Premiata Forneria Marconi "Photos Of Ghosts" An Italian group, I bought this back in 1973, when it first released. Interesting stuff...
Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" Such a beautiful album. Stays true, to this day. |
Grieg, Peer Gynt; The London Symphony Orchestra, Fjelstad conducting. |
Vancouver Chamber Group / Linda Lee Thomas – Early Music From Québec (CBC Radio Canada 1969)
|
The No-Gap Generation Jazz Band With Paul Quinichette – The Blue Water Inn Presents (No/Gap Generation Inc. 1976) Side 2 I’m not a big fan of vibes as they tend to take over the piece but these guys reign it in and record the instrument beautifully. Shame the mix has too much stereo separation. Live and interesting sounding album.
|
@spiritofradio Spiral Architect One of my favorites when we were young. Such gravitas! |
Parke Frankenfield And His Dixieland All-Stars, Maxine Sullivan – Jazz at Green Pond, Vol 1 (Ekrap 1985)
|
Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Goodbye Cruel World. Not one of Elvis' best collections of songs, but sonically this is one of his better sounding records. Allmusic panned the production and I don't disagree with their comments regarding the instrumentation, but sonically it's a nice listen. Picked up this near mint copy for 4 bucks. |
A little bird told me that today is Jim's 60th birthday, so happy sweet 60 to one of my favorite posters and friends! |
Happy Birthday, Jim! Have a great day. |

Signed by JJT. Great tube rollin' album. Which is what I'm doing now! |
what u rolling Brian ? oh fellowhip of the Croft…those cleartops are fairly neutral…. |
Jim, Trying a few different pairs of Teles and my reference Grant Fidelity/Psvane 12AX7LS black. Not from any dissatisfaction with the 7058s, but it's what we gotta do, ain't it? 😀 Verdict soon...
|
Roll Away ! smoke em if ya got em ! I have been rolling the MC240 of late as well. it’s fun and excellent listening skill development.. have fun |
Early this morning:
Plas Johnson and the Grease Patrol "LA '55" Nana Vasconcelos/Antonello Salis "Lester" Lady Blackbird "Black Acid Soul" Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come "Journey" |
So it’s looking like the newer pair of Telefunkens is taking the trophy. They’re so freakin’ clean and see-through. The Psvanes are new and in the stash so need burning. Older Teles were not good— too thin. The 7058s have a great sound— very full and lush with driving bass but they don’t have the airy highs and transparency of the Germans. *phono stage only
Jenny Warnes - FBR another great rolling tester. |
The Dave Brubeck Quartet – Time Out (Columbia 1959 mono)
|
Blind Faith / untitled
The Little Willies / For The Good Times |
