@noromance comedy LPs! Awesome. I remember my dad had Steve Martin (is it ok to yell movie in a crowded fire house?) played that to death! Cheech and Chong, Richard Pryor, Python! Dang, I’m going to have to expand my record collection. Kind of forgot about those! |

The Beatles - "Something New". This was Capital's third album release of the Fab Four. Five of the songs came from "A Hard Days Night." My copy of Beethoven's 4th piano concerto features Leon Fleisher playing with the Cleveland Orchestra under the baton of George Szell. |

Pete Townshend - "Face the Face" - Live from the Deep End........
12" 45 RPM Single of "Face the Face" - Live from the Deep End, from the Pete Townshend Movie - "White City". The Live version is on side 1, Studio version of "Face the Face" and "Hiding Out" on side 2. |
Jethro Tull - "Songs From the Wood" |
REM/ Out of Time
Had not listened to this one in a long while. On reflection, I know the band liked it, as it made them lots of money. But I actually liked at least three of their earlier albums better. |
Another REM -- "Automatic for the People" |
Leonard Cohen -- "Songs of Leonard Cohen" |
Jacqui Naylor, The Long Game. |
I found an REM album that my wife bought new in 1983 -- 'Murmur' I don't believe it has ever been played. I'll clean it and check it out. That's part of what's fun in this thread, getting ideas for music. There is so much you guys list that I am unfamiliar with and that I will likely get ahold of some of them (which I already have this past 6 months but need more). Cool! |

@Quad78, Welcome! @cincinnatipete, Welcome back! |
@noromance Do you remember how you discovered Soap & Skin? |
@spiritofradio I used listen to a lot of YouTube music. I heard the Thanatos track first. Then Spiracle. So I bought the record. She's talented. Prefer the older piano work.

Charles Lloyd - Tone Poet has arrived but I have been indisposed. James hope yours arrives soon. We can compare impressions.... |
Only got through symphonies 1 & 2 last night. So, after working until 10:00 this evening, picked up at #3, then 4, and now 5. Perfect music after a very long day.
Sir Collin Davis conducts Sibelius - The Seven Symphonies. Boston Symphony Orchestra. Philips 5LP box set. Unknown release date, but, per label, going to guess late 70’s. Italian pressing.

@noromance I remember streaming that album when (I think it was) you posted about and recommended her quite awhile back. I like it too but don’t have her on vinyl (yet). YouTube can often be a great discovery vehicle and sometime rather great in and of itself. The algorithm can lead from one good thing to another. But I state the obvious.... I got on to western African rock through YouTube that way. Knew nothing about it at all until then. |
@tomic601 , will do, Hope you’re feeling ok and everything. Or if, like me, that just means you’re watching a movie or doing something nice with your spouse and not playing records then all good bro. It’s All Good. |

Warming up with Mathus & Bird. |
Astute observation James ! I crashed the bike as the nephews would say “ shredding an edge “ bike is more road than off road but a 20 knot wind gust gave me a nudge- I have my own in attention to blame. 18 mph + 20 knot gust and hard = 7 fracture ribs and a punctured lung. Crawling out of the hole. TT will get some use, but digital in many forms will rule the day for awhile. thanks for asking brother |
Also, my MIPS rated mountain bike helmet is trashed, broke in 3 places, as designed- word to wise always cycle with a helmet.
I dusted myself off and rode 6 miles home.... frick, I hurt now.
ha. |
@tomic601 - I hope you are OK.
word to wise always cycle with a helmet.
I do. Also when I'm skiing and snowboarding. |
|
@tomic601 - I re-read your post. Oh man, I'm really sorry about your crash. Take care of yourself and I hope you can find some comfort. Let us know how you are doing/progressing. I hope you get back to "normal" soon. |
Tom, you were a bad influence on Jim. |
@slaw - I streamed the Mathus/Bird album last night. It didn't do much for me. There were 2/3 of the 13 tracks that I thought were OK, but overall, not my favorite style.
As you know, I really like Jimbo Mathus. However, I don't like everything, or even most, of his individual songs. I don't even like many of his albums that much. However! The songs that I do like, I like a lot!
My favorite Jimbo Mathus albums are:
Jimbo Mathus and the Tri-State Coalition - "White Buffalo" Jimbo Mathus and the Tri-State Coalition - "Dark Night of the Soul"
And two great songs, on an LP called "Incinerator", are:
"I Really Hurt Someone" and "Been Unraveling" |
@slaw -
Tom, you were a bad influence on Jim .
I hope I had nothing to do with that! Unfortunately, I've been there. As my wife says, "He's wrecked at least one of everything". She calls me her "Scratch and dent model". I've been in road and MTB bike crashes, car crashes, motorcycle crashes, skiing crashes and even a plane crash. I think I'm getting pretty close to my allotment. |
@tomic601 Jim, so sorry to hear of your incident. Very wise to use a helmet. They are lifesavers, for sure. A helmet saved my life about 7 years ago, too. I hope that your pain is short lived and you get back to full health, quickly.
You'll be back on your bike, just as soon as you are able. I wish you well. Take care and enjoy some music. |
Thanks for the info on Jimbo, Tom. ........................................................
Andrew Bird "Weather Systems" I’ve realized I’m way behind on his output, gonna try and remedy that. ...........................................................
Changed the water in the Vibrato. Always a good feeling..............
(Scratch Andrew Bird until later, he needed a deeper clean.)
Up now Fruit Bats "The Pet Parade" |

Fruit Bats "This Gold Past Life"
Yeah, I like um' |
"Weather Systems" on again. Gonna have to replace it. |
Finishing the last two symphonies; 6 & 7. My favorite Sibelius symphonies.
Sir Collin Davis conducts Sibelius - The Seven Symphonies. Boston Symphony Orchestra. Philips 5LP box set. Unknown release date, but, per label, going to guess late 70’s. Italian pressing.
Then, need some vocals tonight. |
@dhite71 Accentus Music SMETANA: MÁ VLAST – DIRECT-TO-DISC VINYL Oh man, that sounds like a good one. Great symphony. |
Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon. Reprise reissue 1984. Originally 1970. |
All of this Joni! Gonna put on my "Live @ Canterbury House - 1967". From her Archives, 3lp set. @bkeske, This was prior to her studio lps. Wonderful!! considering her early poise, vulnerability and willingness to share her talent. |
Overall pretty good. The bike has been a life saver in turbulent times - big time stress reducer health inducer. Not Tom’s fault. IF I go out and buy a pair of Infinity, then blame him.
car club at Ohio State grubbed up enough $ to run a Saab Turbo as a series entrant in Midwest during Winter , freaking hilarious pro instructor we hired crashed it on logging road it hurt... a lot, but not this bad
thanks for all the well wishes |
@tomic601 Oh man, sorry to hear about the accident Jim. Take it easy and feel better soon. Did they at least give you an anodyne- something fun - like Percocet? The thing with taking Percocet is that when taking it one becomes incredibly handsome. Hope the War Department maintains a Medical Corps certification.
|
Hang in there Jim. We got your back on spinning vinyl while you are chair ridden. 👍🏼 |
@slaw Gonna put on my "Live @ Canterbury House - 1967" It’s on my radar Steve. Perhaps very very soon. |
