@big_greg, cool! I have those tweeters (and Crites crossovers) in my Khorns. What does the Dynamat do for the horns?
I’ve only ever heard Quartets once and in a very strange situation: Crummy college radio station signal on a not-so-great vintage receiver at the very sweet but equally strange vintage stereo store Audio Specialties in the even more strange town of Portland, Oregon. They had life, I could tell, but discernment was beyond my grasp.
Cool that you’re liking them. Say, I have to replace a binding post that got wrecked when Grey’s anatomy tripped on its cable. Maybe you could help me fix it.

Before:

@bkeske, Dude!  This is the one!

Dynamics, Clarity, Precision, True

This makes me think I’m beginning to know the difference between orchestras.  This band is definitely north of greatness.
@beach2mtn, very cool. That music would be a revelation heard live. I don’t know how old you are but when I went to concerts during that time (not very many since I was home with my kids then) I would be older and was less cool than almost everybody else. I grew out of worrying about that sort of thing later of course, but I missed a lot of good music for about a decade there.
@geof3
Thanks Bro!

Hey, don’t tell anybody but in a fantastic day of mostly listening and in that mostly listening to Progressive Rock of different sorts, I had to stream some.  If I’m honest, my vinyl collection is embarrassingly light on heavy prog.....

Do you know Karnivool?  Ozric Tentacles? The Gathering?  Frost?  All are plenty tasty.  You probably know them.  I also streamed Hand Cannot Erase from the aforementioned SW.  Man that is a good album.
@spiritofradio Putting Dyanmat on the horns is supposed to help damp them and eliminate ringing.  I'm thinking about whether to replace the crossovers or not, and if so, whether to get Crites or ALK.  I've replaced crossovers with Crites in Heresy speakers and KLF-30 and honestly didn't notice much difference, which isn't surprising, since they are designed to spec out the same as the originals.  The titanium tweeters are definitely an improvement though.  That's a bummer about the binding post.  Older Klipsch speakers have pretty cheap binding posts.  I had some issues with the ones on the Quartets.  I overtightened them (I guess) and I could not loosen them, they just spun inside so I had to take them apart, which was like playing Operation.  No fun.

On topic... I'm listening to my second copy of Bikini Kill S/T.
@bdp24,

You know Lucinda's right up my alley, and covering TP, dbl the pleasure....
Thanks.

@big_greg

Ahh, something you wrap around the outside of the throat.   I’ve read about that. Maybe ringing is there on mine and I just can’t hear it, but I’ve never noticed it was an issue.  Did you have an issue?   I suppose that ringing, along with a lot of other potential problems has a lot to do with amplification.   When I hooked up certain receivers to certain Klipsch models I had a lot of problems.  Mostly though due to these speakers being extremely sensitive and revealing.   The Crites tweeters are particularly that way.
Back on topic:

Berliner Philharmoniker

very nice analogue reissue mastered from the original Hi-Res digital by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering

2-LP 180-gram vinyl gatefold set cut at 45 RPM

What an improvement

@spiritofradio

Any idea how the Nickel Creek LP compares with the SACD version on my shelf? It sounds quite good.
@dodgealum Sorry no , don’t have SACD here , but the record sounded way better than the old CD. More detail and more lifelike. Wooden instruments have much more organic and full tone. It’s very good. It’s a well done digital recording that I always thought was good so, they’re probably both very good. Cool that you like them too.

Giving the cartridge and table a little break.  Listening to seedies tonight.  Going to sample some old favorite Merc's.
@spiritofradio, yeah tough to go really deep prog wise on vinyl. That’s where streaming just works. I’ve got a setting on Amazon to load new tracks weekly in the prog world. Some interesting stuff for sure!

Tonight’s selections:

Norah Jones- Come Away With Me
Beastie Boys- BeastieBoys Music
Peter Gabriel- Growing Up Live
Tears for Fears- Rule the World
Another Joni acquisition arrived today....

Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon. Reprise reissue, I believe 1974. Originally 1970.

Damn, this album is in fantastic condition. Sounds great.

Very nice. I’m very familiar with Berlin, and Simon’s time with them. I’ve had a subscription to their streaming service (Digital Concert Hall), including live concerts, for 3 years now. This coming will be my 4th. Excellent orchestra. Weird, but I probably know them better than Cleveland because all the time I ‘spend with them’.
@spiritofradio there was not a noticeable issue with ringing, but if you tap on the horns... I don't think the damping is going to hurt anything.
David Gates-Never Let Her Go Side 1 SQ 4.4
Ricky Skaggs-Comin’ Home To Stay Side 1 SQ 4.2
Womack & Womack-Love Wars Side 2 SQ 4.5
Luciano Pavarotti-King Of The High C’s" Side 1 SQ 4.3
The Best Of The Chicago Blues(Vanguard VSD-1/2) Side 1 SQ 4.3
Neil Diamond-Jonathan Livingston Seagull Side 1 SQ 4.5

FWIW when a recording receives a SQ of 4.5 or > I consider it an audiophile level recording. Anything less then a SQ of 4 the recording becomes an issue. I make every effort to have an original pressing or very early pressing otherwise I will make note of it.
@big_greg very impressive transition from Judas Priest to Blood On The Tracks (one of my all time favorites)...did your wife leave you because of all the head banging? :)
@beach2mtn I stopped getting married a long time ago, so no wife to leave when I rock out!  I do have a super cool girlfriend that loves to listen to music too, but she's a little less into J.P. than I am.  She would have enjoyed Bob though.
Elvin Bishop - Live! Rasin' Hell.  I never saw Elvin Bishop live, but this record makes me wish I would have.  Sounds like a fun time and some great music.

@big_greg hope you realized I was just having some fun w your variety of tunes. BOTT has been said to be Dylan’s musical articulation of his estrangement from his wife...certainly didn’t mean any offense. Bad attempt at humor after too many nightcaps.
I have to say, this is a really good group of people.
So much better than reading a lot of snark garbage on other threads.
Cheers to good music and good people👍

@slaw @mammothguy54,

hey, could we hear a little more about Barrabas? I remember a couple of references but apparently more than one band has that name and/or album name.  I’d like to explore further
Another new acquisition arrived today. Had this once, (not sure what happened to it), but recently only a digital version. Nice to have back on vinyl.

Neil Young - After the Gold Rush. Reprise reissue 1978. Originally 1970.

Fantastic shape, and very quiet. Probably better than my old one 😁
@spiritofradio

@bkeske Joni & Neil, you are into classical Brian.

Classical in all forms James ;-)

......actually bought a batch of ‘actual classical’ LP selections today. Oh, and a CD. Purcell and Britten selections by the Doric String Quartet on Chandos (2 CD set). Listened to it on TIDAL and had to have it.
@spiritofradio   Yes, it was Slaw that turned me on to Barrabas.  The description he sent was that the album is like a blend of Santana, funk, and something else, I forget exactly what that was.  I wanted to add that to my collection and sought it out on Discogs.  I found a NM/M- copy for around $12 or $15.  It turned out to be so good that I have played it probably a dozen times over the past 3 months.
I understand there are a number of Barrabas records and I am not sure if they are different bands or the same album title.  The one you want to get is 1975, has the cover art of a large, screaming face/head that is fairly orange in color and is a drawing, not an actual picture.  The background color is a light blue.
The music is great, the vinyl quality of my copy is very quiet, the dynamics are excellent.  A really great album.  Just checked Discogs and found 5 NM/M- available in U.S. ranging from $8, $10, $16 and one at $25.  Strongly recommend.
@mammothguy54, thanks! That’s just what I was looking for.  I’d seen that one it was uncertain.   Thanks again.
