Hole "Live Through This" original German pressing. No matter what one may think of her, she had talent.

Yeah, I’ve included the 1st Moby Grape album on a few lists, including Best Debut Albums and Perfect Albums. The album is particularly remarkable not just for the songwriting, but also the interplay of the three guitarists and singers, not unlike Buffalo Springfield, The Grape’s Southern California equivalent. The SQ of the recordings is, unfortunately, only average commercial, but still better than a lot from that year (’67).

I love the album to death, but was disappointed by it’s follow-up---Wow. They rebounded with their 3rd---Moby Grape 69, bunted on their 4th---Truly Fine Citizen, then came roaring back with 20 Granite Creek. After TGC they disintegrated, Skip Spence joining the ranks of Acid Casualties (Syd Barrett, Peter Green, Brian Wilson, Brian Jones), committed to a California State mental hospital. When Governor Ronald Reagan closed many of those facilities (compassionate conservatism at it’s finest), Skip was thrown out onto the street, living his remaining years wandering the streets of San Jose bumming cigarettes.

Jerry Miller is a seriously good guitarist, a favorite of a lot of players I’ve known. In The Grape he played a Gibson L5, a favorite of Jazz guitarists. Definitely the best guitarist to have come out of the mid-to-late 60’s San Francisco scene (no offence intended, fans of Jerry Garcia, Carlos Santana, and John Cipollina ;-). He and drummer Don Stevenson moved down to the Bay Area from Seattle, where they had been in The Frantics together. Bob Mosley was amongst the best SF bassists, along with Phil Lesh (The Dead) and Jack Casady (The Airplane).

For more of Chris Hillman, keep an eye out for his albums on Bluegrass label Sugar Hill. Really good music captured in excellent SQ.

@slaw I loved Hole. Not so much for their music but for the live performances. You never knew what you were going to get out of Courtney. I saw them three different times and every show was completely different.
Great stuff Eric.
And I will entirely agree on WOW, quite a bit of a let down all round.
Will look out for 20 Granite Creek.
Live through this and Celebrity Skin were/ are vastly superior to Hole debut album, Pretty on the Inside.
I had that on vinyl and gave it away. It was that bad to my ears.
@big_greg,

Courtney would not be the girl I'd bring home to meet the parents but I think she's very talented. Enjoying listening to her music today.
Courtney would not be the girl I'd bring home to meet the parents
LMFAO 🤣
Tbh I think she would have been EXACTLY the girl I would have loved to bring home just to shock the living daylights out of my parents.
Yep I was a rebel who left home at 18 and never looked back!
Foreigner S/T.

This probably had as big an impact on me as Boston S/T at time of it's release.

Still excellent now👍
Courtney Barnett "(The Double EP) A Sea of Split Peas" 2013/Mom+Pop

Freshly cleaned
@boxer12,

Saw there is another lp released from Jason Molina postumusly. It's in my cart.
@pratorious,

My copy is a US version on Sail Records/promo. SQ is great!

Welcome!
So weird thing happened with Herman’s Hermits album. I played it on the 9" Decca Gold fine. I replayed it on the 12" SuperGold. Every now and again, it would jump a few grooves. I checked stylus, cleaned, checked VTF. Tried different VTA. Up close the stylus vibrates visibly and jumps the groove as if it was hitting a compliance resonance peak. It’s just this record though. No visible warp. Any ideas?
@noromance,.

Maybe there’s so much energy coming from the record....is showing you a cart/arm mismatch?

Just for kicks, put the MyMat under the record and play again
Just got back from post office,  shipped out 9 boxes of LP’s.... told the guy behind the counter I run a pawn shop.... he said “ how is that spelled ?”....
Did you pull your mask off and repeat?...or did you just give him thumbs up?
Marty Robbins ‎– Just A Little Sentimental (Columbia 1961)

This should be in your Mom's collection. Guy singing old songs. Good voice. Great voice, like a country music cross between Elvis and Chris Isaak. Crystal clear recording. Barber store quartet backing singers. What more could you want? I blame the Garrard/Decca for bringing these oldies to life.
@noromance ,

Does that HH record play the same in every one of your systems?
Just for kicks, put the MyMat under the record and play again
@slaw Well, I'll be... the My Mat fixed it.
@noromance ,

Feel free to tell others.

The MyMat ain’t no fluke! ...and frankly, neither am I
The fact remains the MyMat worked/s.

Now, it's up to you to figure out what problem exists in your system/set-up that needs to be addressed.
Slaw: you are about to get jealous.

I still have my original press of Grievous Angel. I have a couple more presses. Near mint. I have almost the entire Gram Parsons catalogue.

I saw Gram Parsons with Emmylou Harris and the Fallen Angels at Upstairs at Max’s Kansas City in the spring of ... 1974 if memory serves. Six sets over three of the five days he performed there. On the middle day, second set, he brought his friends onstage: Linda Rondstat and Dave Mason.

I was sitting in the front row each night. A friend worked the tables downstairs in the restaurant and got me in for free through the backstage door early. The front row was practically in the performers laps. I was no more than 6 to 8 feet from all the action.

I saw a lot of great shows there. Those were the days. Long gone. 😢
Slaw, Thanks for the heads up

Uber, The more I hear about your childhood, the more we have in common (LOL)

Castanets / Cathedral
Based on your preference of smooth side up, makes me think my initial thought was right. A cart/arm mismatch.
Slaw
Just curious as to what led you to think the MyMat would help with the particular problem noromance was having.
Dissipation of excess energy?
It is most interesting for sure!
Thanks. Not too concerned. First time I’ve encountered this. The record is pretty lively and I know my bare metal platter can be a hostile surface but it sounds so good. Thanks again for your insight.

Darius Milhaud - Athena Ensemble ‎– Music For Wind Instruments (Chandos 1980)

Bought this when it came out as my first classical album. They were playing it in the store. Sounds better now to these older ears. DG style cut.
@noromance

" Metal platter sounds so good"

This is THE problem  listener bias and sometimes their refusal to accept another point of view.
On a limited selection right now due to various COVID related reasons but listening to a 2016 Sony release of Pink Floyd's Final Cut and it is just beautiful.  Blows away the CD.  Not even close.  Can't get enough of it at this moment in time. This moment in time could be a different moment in time tomorrow. Have replayed multiple tracks multiple times.
I hear that Slaw.

One day I am going to have to try out a Decca London cart on my Garrard 401.
One day.......
@noromance ,

"Not too concerned"

Frankly you should be. You just experienced a fault that was so egregious, you reached out.

So it just shows up on one record, it's still there.
I would play that troublesome disc and have a look at RTA, and or woofers ( assuming you are not on the stats ) , I think you got a disc w maybe lacking cutter head filtering, Mia EQ or supper tight groove spacing causing this, especially in light of this combo tracking your vast collection prior...
This is THE problem listener bias and sometimes their refusal to accept another point of view.
Slaw, If it sounds better to me, and I've been around the block a few times, then that's how it's gonna fly! It's possible the Jelco is borderline when pushed by the Decca with the Decapod on a hot record. However after trying out the WT clone recently - which tracked beautifully - the Jelco blew it away in dynamics and many other areas. Not sure what else I can do.
Various ‎– The Bread And Roses Festival Of Music (Fantasy 1980)

This album should be in every collection.
At some point, I need to do the My Mat review - the short version is excellent enhancement to the SOTA mat. I would like to revisit after swapping out the Nakagoka

Incidently, the track playing now is a Chick Corea Medley where he's hammering the keys interspersed with delicacy. It's the last track on side 3. It's tracking perfectly. Man it is one dynamic test track!
You'll see when you buy this album.
@noromance ,

I'm very passionate. I understand your view. All I can say is  I listend to the MyMat in my system for 3 years, on two different tt's, with similar/great results.
What I've discovered is, (listener bias) is the hardest mountain to climb in trying to sell a product such as a TT mat.
( so if one difficult song tracks perfectly, are you saying this removed your previous concern and that concern is ño longer valid?)
@slaw The MyMat is a no-brainer. Weird thing is that I do use it to chill hot records but recently the rig's been so on form I haven't needed it in a few weeks. Slipped my mind this time. Of course, it fixed it and all is good.
