John Mayall & Friends "Along for the Ride"
Some afternoon music after a nice morning out on the links. Roxy Music - Stranded Relatively early 1974 ATCO pressing. I hadn't listened to this in a while and was thinking about ordering the new remaster but was happily surprised that my copy is very clean and the SQ is excellent. What a great album! |
@slaw Thanks for the update. Glad to hear there's an improvement. IIRC, you had single large open springs. Ever tried the Nobsound pods?

Elton John-Live in Australia Side 4 The Congos-Heart Of The Congos(Repress) Side 3 Vikki Carr-Hoy(Today) Side 2 Jimmy Roselli-Core Napulitano Side 2 Cedar Walton-Eastern Rebellion(Repress) Side B SQ Audiophile Kiri Te Kanawa-Portrait Of Kiri Te Kanawa Side 2 SQ Audiophile John Cougar-Nothin’ Matters And What If It Did Side 1 Wynton Marsalis(Lincoln Center Orchestra)-Live In Cuba Side F SQ Audiophile The only recording that was average was Elton, the CD might have better SQ? The 4 other recordings were excellent just missing Audiophile SQ. Eastern Rebellion takes the SQ trophy despite the silver(yuk) vinyl. |
I hope so. I have it on cassette and it sounds pretty darn good. Bought the CD in case my cassette went berserk, and don’t enjoy it as much, so hoping they did a good job on the vinyl. The seller says it sounds great (he has a personal copy). This is also the same performance that I linked that YouTube video a while back. Fingers crossed, as it isn’t cheap. |
For those who really, really like David Crosby’s debut: I just opened today’s email from MoFi, and there was the listing for the next Super Vinyl title: the Crosby album. Two 45 RPM LP’s, pressed on Clarity "vinyl" (the same PVC Analogue Productions used for their Kind Of Blue reissue). Not a 1-Step, this title is priced $74.99. I have a pretty clean original, and don’t like 45 RPM 2-LP editions, so I think I’ll pass (if it was a single 33-1/3 disc I would definitely get it). Great sounding album even in the mass-produced version, this one may be really great. |
Hey @noromance , I noticed immediately on a lp with acoustic instruments how much more lifelike they sound. The plucked strings, the guitar body resonance, the ambience and decay are all improved. On certain recordings the treble extension and air seems ongoing. Of course the bass is very full and weighty yet defined and musical. The midrange is just more prominent and again, lifelike. Can’t wait for the Podiums.. |
@slaw don't hold back, man! How are they?

Very cool @arize84! Bill Bruford / Earthworks |
Fresh in the mail today from Russia, a Japanese pressing of Dizzy Gillespie - Duets. Dizzy had summit meetings with Sonny Rollins and Sonny Stitt which yielded 2 barn busting blowing sessions in Duets and Sonny Side Up. Incredible performances all around which put both these disks as deserted island options. Tonight is the type of night that leaves me especially grateful for having the means to put a good analog rig together. |
Blew the rest of my April vinyl budget wad today. I bought the Jimi Hendrix UHQR. That album was instrumental in my growing up years, since the day it came to market. If I didn't buy it while still available I would regret that for all my years remaining. I won't miss the money come May. But I will be able to enjoy the album, in its best possible sonic ability, for all my years remaining. I have life stories that center around that album. But I'll leave them alone for now. Michael Franks - Tiger In The Rain Direct Disc Labs, an excellent issue! Dave Mason - Alone together Again I have the original and just had to get this issue when it was released. Dave did a stellar job bringing to market this 2021 rendition of the very same album. |
@spiritofradio Thanks... Cleaned a bunch of "oldies" on the ultrasonic the other day and listened to some at random... made for a Great session! |
@ticat Great stack. |
