Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

45RPM 2 Record Set / CD

Both the vinyl and CD sound fantastic. The vinyl and CD are sold separately. I purchased the CD while waiting for the vinyl.

This and the above three blind mice are currently available. Had long wait for the vinyl.  I also have an old pressing of Midnight Sugar..all great Japanese Jazz.

Tonight on the Oracle:

Neal Francis - "Changes"

Lettuce - "Unify"

Stevie Ray Vaughan - "Couldn't Stand the Weather" MFSL UltraDisc 1Step

Chris Stapleton - "Traveller" (Right before he sings the National Anthem for the Super Bowl) 😉

Cheers, AudioGon Community!

John Pizzarelli Jr.-I’m Hip Side A SQ Audiophile

Wow! 5/8 Audiophile SQ recordings tonight. Unfortunately 4 recordings just slipped in. Trio 77 was clearly a notch above the other 4. Not quite a demo level Lp due to being slightly forward in presentation. If you are an acoustic jazz fan this recording is a 9+/10 SQ and content. TLC could be Ms. Wilson’s 1960’s best? Felt like an all jazz playlist today. Just finished playing prior to Super Bowl Halftime.

I’m pretty excited about this set that arrived today. I already have a Stravinsky box set, just played it recently, and unhappy with its pressing, mastering, and/or sound quality overall. So I went looking for a replacement, and what better than a box set of Stravinsky’s works conducted by himself? This set is in pretty darn good shape, considering it has a silver reflective finish, and a great thick booklet within. This should be fun, hopefully, as I have big expectations.

Nice SQ, slight groove noise, I can’t say it’s a big jump up in sound over my original pressing

Played Last night 2/14/23.

When playing jazz vocals you expect Audiophile SQ. With the 8 recordings I selected(2 Japanese pressings) I was not disappointed due to 6/8 reaching Audiophile status. Since Linda Lawson was a 1960 pressing and Connick Jr. 1988 both had slight issues common with each recording era. The SQ crown goes to Dick Haymes(Audiophile AP-200)maybe it was the calmness/flow of the music that gave it the edge over Marlena Shaw. Both IMO are demo level recordings.

artful dodger, "rave on"-- swansong from a great, underappreciated guitar pop band somewhere between badfinger and the small faces (the singer sounds a lot like steve marriott). never on cd, afaik, but you can find it on youtube.

grant lee buffalo, "mighty joe moon"--I've gone back and forth on him over they years, but "happiness" always makes me weep uncontrollably.

@loomisjohnson

I just streamed their title album and am listening to Honor Among Thieves now.

Good pick!

The United States Of America - 1968

Haven't heard the OP on Columbia, but this 2017 reissue mastered by Kevin Gray on Sundazed Music - LP5211 has incredible sonics. Highly recommended.

Pulled out my US of A after @middlemass posted it. Moved on to High Tide - Sea Shanties and then New Sound of Numbers - Liberty Seeds. Ended up being an electrified strings kind of session.

@curiousjim glad you're enjoying artful dodger--they have a third major label record, babes on broadway, which is terrible, but the first two and the aforesaid "rave on" are the bomb.

further picks today:

rage to live, s/t--very intelligent 80s altrock w/some country & r&b overtones--the principal has a lot of range as a songwriter and fully half these tunes are classic.

robin lane & the chartbusters, s/t--jangly bar band sorta reminiscent of (and virtually as good as) the pretenders; i'm sorta surprised they never hit big.

@mytthor, an Oracle? You are very privileged! I owned a MK3 at one time, but wanted a Mk5. Never did I know that the cheapest time to own one would be in 1999. A Mk6 was even available here for as cheap as $4500 here on AG 6 years ago. The seller wouldn’t ship it 2 states over from California. I didn’t blame him. Nice TT!

I could listen to all the jazz recordings one time each for the rest of my life, yet still not come close to listening to all of them.

Tonight it’s the late great Hank Mobley’s Workout LP. A great and overlooked album. Mobley was a great artist. How many haven’t even heard of him?

Not sure why, but Fridays after a long week, I always seem to reach for Brahms

Listened to the reissue by Friday music of Chicago V on gold vinyl earlier today. Sound quality was quite good, vinyl had a light warp and a little bit of noise on side two but sounded better than a lot of new releases.
