This may be of interest to some...

The Internal Revenue Service on Friday announced they are delaying new tax-reporting requirements for millions of Americans who made more than $600 of income from e-commerce platforms such as Ebay, Etsy and AirBnB.

From today's WSJ

Delay...Until they can finish training their new armed agents.

Then bend over.

PayPal, Venmo, et al are all the intended targets. Though people are beeaching about this and there may be some adjustments. Such as making the threshold higher.

There are approximately 585 billionaires in the US. The IRS has hired 87,000 new agents to crack down on the billionaires. That sounds about right. Nothing to see here.

All of those thousands of new hires are to take place over a 5 year period in anticipation of thousands leaving and retiring. Not all are going to be agents as they need clerks and lots of support staff. Besides, their main objective is to go after those millionaire and billionaire tax cheats and not the ordinary worker and they are not sending armed agents out there to harass them. People have to stop with the uniformed whining.

This reminds me of the same old commercials that come out this time of year of poor people getting "heart stopping notices" and "grand seizures of property" in order to get people fleeced by the companies who put out that nonsense.

All the best,

Sure..... If they're replacing those that are leaving why are they "new hires" and why the billions in additional budgeting. They will run out of millionaires and billionaires very quickly and start going after middle income earners. Most billionaires and millionaires have accountants that take advantage of our complex tax code. That does not make them all tax cheats.

On a serious note, I was self employed and ran a business most of my working life. Paid a mountain of taxes and never thought twice about it. I was happy to be fortuate enough to have to pay taxes. It meant I was making money. For the vast majority of us who work hard and play be the rules, it doesn’t matter one bit how the IRS is going to "crack down" as it won’t effect us at all. As for those who cheat the system, meaning the rest of us are paying for them, I hope they all get audited and found out. I have zero sympathy for them. I’m gettin off my soapbox now and going back to the music.

Amen, brother!

taxes are what make civilization possible, but the neverending myth of rugged individualism persists.  Use short, and if possible, monosyllabic words when explaining the collective nature of modern culture, but don't expect the whiners to try to understand it.

if you have your original receipts and then sold some used audio equipment this is all much about nothing; pull together a spreadsheet , include the info on form 8949 , show presumably no gain since it is used equipment  and you're all done. Brief amount of extra work and no tax paid

Remember, reporting it or not, there is no tax if there is no gain.

Most of us sell used items for less than we paid.

Wasn't it the Greeks who, about two thousand years ago, discovered that democracies only work when everyone contributes and pitches in? They had a word for those who reused to...idiota. They need to add scelestus as well.

Let’s all look at the bright side, guys. Those who sold a lot this year and were expecting to pay a tax just got a nice Christmas present!

Happy Holidays all!
