Test tones through Qobuz, is this possible?

Hi, All,

I recently posted about adding a DDC to my DAC (Pontus II 12th, Hermes). I know I need to sync the 2 to make sure I have the right settings. My question is does anyone know if I can rust test tones through Qobuz?

If not what is the best, simplest way to access test tones through my streamer or CD player even as I will have both running through the Hermes (CD via Coax, streamer via USB)?

Thanks, All!

kingbr

Thanks @audphile1 I have searched and haven’t found anything yet. Tried to reach out to Qobuz waiting for reply…

I’m assuming since CD player and Streamer will be connected to Hermes as long as I can get the test tones for either that would work?

Yeah, doesn't matter your source.  I use Roon which lets me play from my local library where I keep my test signal tracks.

Thanks @erik_squires. I do have the Ayre system burn in CD but that doesn’t do left and right channel test tones…

@erik_squires  if you don’t mind me asking, where did you get those test tracks? I just need something to send signal to left and right to ensure settings are aligned between Hermes and Pontus

I ripped a CD from my OmniMic, but I believe you can get some from the Room EQ Wizard forums.

NICE! That’s awesome @gkelly! The 1 track in particular for left and right sweep should work…

Thank you again @erik_squires!

You All are the best👍🏻

I used to have test tones on a playlist in conductor/Qobuz but they stopped working. I think they got removed. I downloaded the files from the Vinshine site and transferred them to the SSD on my Aurender so i have them permanently. I did locate some on Qobuz too later.

On Qobuz:  search for the frequency tone that you want to hear, i.e. 50hz.  You should find what you're looking for.

gkelly, thanks for the test tone referral.  I found on Tidal and saved it to my favorites.

No if I only had my Krell amp back from the mfg...sigh.

@kingbr I just searched in Qobuz albums for “test tones” and the Audio Line Up came up first on the search results.
Were you able to use it to verify your clock/DAC connections?

@rick_n  Thank you! Great info😊

@audphile1 Thanks for following up my friend😊. Hermes just arrived this afternoon. Waiting until tomorrow to introduce to the system. Because any time I need to add anything it is a project due to space constraints in my ent ctr and around it. SOOOO not looking forward to it🤦🏼‍♂️🔫. Just hoping Pontus and Hermes click immediately after the handshake. Though from just watching Alvin from Vinshine’s video in connecting the 2 it seems it’s more about the HDMI/I2S cable. That’s why I went with the DH Labs 2.1 as it actually specifies its I2S compatible…

I will follow up and post here after I’m up (hopefully😩😂) and running…

Thanks so much @mapman! This is great! Seems like I’m safe as kittens getting what I need through Qobuz which is awesome because I really didn’t want to have to connect my laptop to my system..,

One other question for All. Right now I have 3 different components connected to Pontus:

Eversolo Streamer via USB

ELITE CD carousel via Coax

Brennan B2 via Toslink

obviously I just reroute all 3 via same connections from Pontus to Hermes? Then just toggle between the 3 via Hermes?

Cool…everything should work just fine…good luck! And DH Labs makes great cables. You should be set

If you are trying to test the I2S connection from DDC to DAC, you can download test tones from this link:

https://www.denafrips.com/config-i2s

Don't need test tones, user manuals for my dacs and ddc have pin configurations, match them up good to go.

Thank you @otherworld74, but that would require me to connect to my laptop, no? That’s what I was trying to avoid…

I did verify last night that the Audio Line Up Test Tone on Qobuz works when I ran it through my Bluesound Node in my second system. The “Left and Right Sweep” sent tones to each speaker so this should do the trick though my Eversolo! Very excited for that!

@sns Pontus and Hermes did not come with manuals? Alvin from Vinshine has a video for this connection specifically as not all pin connections are the same and some do not work, therefore it’s necessary to test?

Type in Setup and some tracks will show up with test tones in Qobuz.

Good Luck

Pinout 000 worked for me with Denafrips and left and right were fin as well as sound 1st shot out….

I questioned which clocks light need to be on in order to use the DDC clock which I’m assuming is better than the internal clock?

Denafrips Gaia>terminator II

Denafrips has online manuals, I printed out my Gaia manual, it has pinout chart which I've matched up with both my Laiv Harmony and Musetec 006. As for internal vs external clock, internal clock in Gaia far superior to both my dacs, sync and asynch available on both dacs, sync means using ddc clock, this only available with I2S connection.

@bobbyloans @sns Thank you! I’m really hoping the 000 will work first try and I won’t have to play any further. So good to hear yours worked as well @bobbyloans which I2S cable are you using?

lol I just hooked it up last week and my friend who went to tubes gave me these. They’re good and I’ll find out. Post how you make out with the 000.  Curious if I just got lucky

Thanks @bobbyloans , going to tackle it later this afternoon. I will for sure post. Hopefully I get lucky as you did. My cable is DH Labs 2.1. It specifies I2S, so I’m hoping that it’s a quick marriage😬😂

@kingbr Just make sure you set your Hermes to "000" first, then with the volume low and music playing start DAC @ "000" and keep clicking until it sounds right. I just did this to my Terminator 15th 2 weeks ago and it went quickly. "010" was wha worked for me. Tubulous I2s cable. If I can do it anyone can. LOL

Thank you @fthompson251!

Up and running! It worked first try!!

Totally need help on this!! I took my Toslink connect out of Pontus and connected to Hermes (Brennan B2). I took my Coax out of Pontus and into Hermes. I toggled between the connections on Hermes and neither will play???? Does Hermes not apply with these other 2 connections?? Should they just go direct to Pontus??

I have an Elite CD carousel (Coax) and Brennan B2 (Toslink). Is Hermes just for the 1 component (Streamer using USB)? Totally confused

No, all connections should work, I suggest you unplug the Hermes and plug it back in to reboot it. You change them while it was "live?"

Thank you for the quick reply! No I don’t think it was live?

will I need to hit the Coax and Optical selections on the Hermes when switching components?

Or do I do it on Pontus? Or should Pontus be left totally alone at this point?

@fthompson251 I just unplugged and plugged Hermes back in. So how Faldo I proceed to listen to Elite CD player which is connected via Coax In on Hermes? I’m assuming the Toslink and Coax should be on Digital In on Hermes, not Digital out correct?

Yes, you leave Pontus on I2s. You use the Hermes as the input selector, I have USB, AES/UBU and Coaxial connected to my Hermes.  Yes digital input connections to Hermes. You do have to get out of your chair to change inputs on Hermes if you want to change the source. Just push the appropiate button. Enjoy, let me know

Thank you @fthompson251. I just started another thread about this. I’m in desperation mode😂

Ok, so USB (Streamer)

Coax (CD player)

Toslink (CD rippper)

All 3 direct to Hermes in

Set Pontus to I2S and leave Pontus alone. Then just toggle on Hermes for the 3 different units?

GOT IT!! Cannot thank you enough @fthompson251! If you’re ever in the NH area dinner and drinks on me my friend🥂! All 3 playing like a charm. Now it’s break in time for Hermes!…😊😊😊

Sincerest thanks to All who took the time to respond and help! Life is good again😂😊

I don't understand all this. Why can't you just go to YouTube and get test videos there are a lot to choose from if you wanna test speaker tones. And they do frequencies as well

I ran the test tones.  I tried both through my speakers and my headphones and found out just how crappy my ears really are.  I don't hear anything at 8khz and higher and nothing below 50hz.  Kinda depressing.  Good thing is I see no need to spend anymore money on high end equipment since I can't hear it.
