My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!

So I have been in a long journey looking to find the best amplifiers for my martin logan montis. As you know, the match between an amplifier and speakers has to be a good "marriage" and needs to be blend exquisitely. Right now, I think I might have found the best sounding amplifier for martin logan. I have gone through approximately 34-36 amplifiers in the past 12 months. Some of these are:

Bryston ST, SST, SST2 series
NAD M25
PARASOUND HALO
PARASOUND CLASSIC
KRELL TAS
KRELL KAV 500
KRELL CHORUS
ROTEL RMB 1095
CLASSE CT 5300
CLASSE CA 2200
CLASSE CA 5200
MCINTOSH MC 205
CARY AUDIO CINEMA 7
OUTLAW AUDIO 755
LEXICON RX7
PASS LABS XA 30.8
BUTLER AUDIO 5150
ATI SIGNATURE SERIES 6005

With all that said, the amplifiers I mentioned above are the ones that in my opinion are worth mentioning. To make a long story short, there is NO 5 CHANNEL POWER AMP that sounds as good as a 3ch and 2ch amplifier combination. i have done both experiments and the truth is that YOU DO lose details and more channel separation, etc when you select a 5 channel power amplifier of any manufacturer.
My recollection of what each amp sounded like is as follows:

ATI SIGNATURE SERIES 6005 (great power and amazing soundstage. Very low noise floor, BUT this amplifiers NEEDS TO BE cranked up in order to fully enjoy it. If you like listening at low volume levels or somewhat moderate, you are wasting your time here. This amp won’t sound any different than many other brands out there at this volume. The bass is great, good highs although they are a bit bright for my taste)

NAD M25 (very smooth, powerful, but somewhat thin sounding as far as bass goes)
Bryston sst2(detailed, good soundstage, good power, but can be a little forward with certain speakers which could make them ear fatiguing at loud volumes)

Krell (fast sounding, nice bass attack, nice highs, but some detail does get lost with certain speakers)

rotel (good amp for the money, but too bright in my opinion)

cary audio (good sound overall, very musical, but it didn’t have enough oomph)

parasound halo (good detail, great bass, but it still holds back some background detail that i can hear in others)

lexicon (very laid back and smooth. huge power, but if you like more detail or crisper highs, this amp will disappoint you)

McIntosh mc205 (probably the worst multichannel amp given its price point. it was too thin sounding, had detail but lacked bass.

butler audio (good amplifier. very warm and smooth sweet sounding. i think for the money, this is a better amp than the parasound a51)

pass labs (very VERY musical with excellent bass control. You can listen to this for hours and hours without getting ear fatigue. however, it DOES NOT do well in home theater applications if all you have is a 2 channel set up for movies. The midrange gets somewhat "muddy" or very weak sounding that you find yourself trying to turn it up.

classe audio (best amplifier for multi channel applications. i simply COULDNT FIND a better multi channel amplifier PERIOD. IT has amazing smoothness, amazing power and good bass control although i would say krell has much better bass control)

Update: The reviews above were done in January 2015. Below is my newest update as of October 2016:

PS AUDIO BHK 300 MONOBLOCKS: Amazing amps. Tons of detail and really amazing midrange. the bass is amazing too, but the one thing i will say is that those of you with speakers efficiency of 87db and below you will not have all the "loudness" that you may want from time to time. These amps go into protection mode when using a speaker such as the Salon, but only at very loud levels. Maybe 97db and above. If you don’t listen to extreme crazy levels, these amps will please you in every way.

Plinius Odeon 7 channel amp: This is THE BEST multichannel amp i have ever owned. Far , but FAR SUPERIOR to any other multichannel amp i have owned. In my opinion it destroyed all of the multichannel amps i mentioned above and below. The Odeon is an amp that is in a different tier group and it is in a league of its own. Amazing bass, treble and it made my center channel sound more articulate than ever before. The voices where never scrambled with the action scenes. It just separated everything very nicely.

Theta Dreadnaught D: Good detailed amp. Looks very elegant, has a pleasant sound, but i found it a tad too bright for my taste. I thought it was also somewhat "thin" sounding lacking body to the music. could be that it is because it is class d?

Krell Duo 300: Good amp. Nice and detailed with enough power to handle most speakers out there. I found that it does have a very nice "3d" sound through my electrostatics. Nothing to fault here on this amp.
Mark Levinson 532H: Great 2 channel amp. Lots of detail, amazing midrange which is what Mark Levinson is known for. It sounds very holographic and will please those of you looking for more detail and a better midrange. As far as bass, it is there, but it is not going to give you the slam of a pass labs 350.5 or JC1s for example. It is great for those that appreciate classical music, instrumental, etc, but not those of you who love tons of deep bass.

 It is articulate sounding too
Krell 7200: Plenty of detail and enough power for most people. i found that my rear speakers contained more information after installed this amp. One thing that i hated is that you must use xlr cables with this amp or else you lose most of its sound performance when using RCA’s.

Krell 402e: Great amp. Very powerful and will handle any speaker you wish. Power is incredible and with great detail. That said, i didn’t get all the bass that most reviewers mentioned. I thought it was "ok" in regards to bass. It was there, but it didn’t slam me to my listening chair.

Bryston 4B3: Good amp with a complete sound. I think this amp is more laid back than the SST2 version. I think those of you who found the SST2 version of this amp a little too forward with your speakers will definitely benefit from this amp’s warmth. Bryston has gone towards the "warm" side in my opinion with their new SST3 series. As always, they are built like tanks. I wouldn’t call this amp tube-like, but rather closer to what the classe audio delta 2 series sound like which is on the warm side of things.

Parasound JC1s: Good powerful amps. Amazing low end punch (far superior bass than the 402e). This amp is the amp that i consider complete from top to bottom in regards to sound. Nothing is lacking other than perhaps a nicer chassis. Parasound needs to rework their external appearance when they introduce new amps. This amp would sell much more if it had a revised external appearance because the sound is a great bang for the money. It made my 800 Nautilus scream and slam. Again, amazing low end punch.

Simaudio W7: Good detailed amp. This amp reminds me a lot of the Mark Levinson 532h. Great detail and very articulate. I think this amp will go well with bookshelves that are ported in order to compensate for what it lacks when it comes to the bass. That doesn’t mean it has no bass, but when it is no Parasound JC1 either.
Pass labs 350.5: Wow, where do i begin? maybe my first time around with the xa30.8 wasn’t as special as it was with this monster 350.5. It is just SPECTACULAR sounding with my electrostatics. The bass was THE BEST BASS i have ever heard from ANY amp period. The only amp that comes close would be the jC1s. It made me check my settings to make sure the bass was not boosted and kept making my jaw drop each time i heard it. It totally destroyed the krell 402e in every regard. The krell sounded too "flat" when compared to this amp. This amp had amazing mirange with great detail up top. In my opinion, this amp is the best bang for the money. i loved this amp so much that i ended up buying the amp that follows below.

Pass labs 250.8: What can i say here. This is THE BEST STEREO AMP i have ever heard. This amp destroys all the amps i have listed above today to include the pass labs 350.5. It is a refined 350.5 amp. It has more 3d sound which is something the 350.5 lacked. It has a level of detail that i really have never experienced before and the bass was amazing as well. I really thought it was the most complete power amplifier i have ever heard HANDS DOWN. To me, this is a benchmark of an amplifier. This is the amp that others should be judged by. NOTHING is lacking and right now it is the #1 amplifier that i have ever owned.

My current amps are Mcintosh MC601s: i decided to give these 601s a try and they don’t disappoint. They have great detail, HUGE soundstage, MASSIVE power and great midrange/highs. The bass is great, but it is no pass labs 250.8 or 350.5. As far as looks, these are the best looking amps i have ever owned. No contest there. i gotta be honest with you all, i never bought mcintosh monos before because i wasn’t really "wowed" by the mc452, but it could have been also because at that time i was using a processor as a preamp which i no longer do. Today, i own the Mcintosh C1100 2 chassis tube preamp which sounds unbelievable. All the amps i just described above have been amps that i auditioned with the C1100 as a preamp. The MC601s sound great without a doubt, but i will say that if you are looking for THE BEST sound for the money, these would not be it. However, Mcintosh remains UNMATCHED when it comes to looks and also resale value. Every other amp above depreciates much faster than Mcintosh.

That said, my future purchase (when i can find a steal of a deal) will be the Pass labs 350.8. I am tempted to make a preliminary statement which is that i feel this amp could be THE BEST stereo amp under 30k dollars. Again, i will be able to say more and confirm once i own it. I hope this update can help you all in your buying decisions!

Yea I had to "follow you in" to the quicksand. I knew you had at least one or both of the Luxman INT plus 600 or 650 ACCU in the past so I was wondering if it was worth the extra dough for the 800. Sounds like one piece of gear I wont have to worry about finding a new home for which is a moral victory. Thanks again for chiming in....you might want to update that other site. Probably some others sitting on the fence and awaiting the verdict to the Greg "treasure or trash" poll. LOL
@keithr

"I agree that speakers are by far the dominant source for good sound, coupled appropriately to the room with the correct amplifier driving them (ie. not SETs on MLs). The people who spend 10s of thousands on cables, power cords, and tweaks to drive a 20k pair of speakers have it backwards. The mega-$ cables are for people who have mega speakers already. Most cables and power cords are just parametric tone controls anyways."

I do respect your opinion and even though the OP 'Agreed' with your statement it is not what he has been doing for the last year. The Wilson DAW retails for $37,900. The Focal Scala EVO retails for $51,990. If you add up the retail costs of JUST the Nordost cables (parametric tone controls) he has been using, those alone far exceed the cost of each speaker. And the latest thing I heard the OP say was that he was going to save and look for a deal on Nordost Odin2 speaker cables which are  more $ than Odin1 speaker cables.....'anyways'.
It would be awesome if the Lux 509x integrated was even 80% - 90% of the m900u + c900u combo. The 509x integrated is actually ideal for my small space and I really liked it but, to my ears, those Luxman separates are miles better. It was actually very easy to tell the difference. I am sure I could identify them 100 times out of 100 in a blind test.
OP...Any chance you’ll get your hands on the new Agostino Progression Integrated Amp? I have but won’t comment as I don’t want to inject bias into the mix should you think you might give it a listen.
WC,
I liked the AQ Niagara over the Shunyata, for the AQ's greater ambience, openness.  Still not much of a difference.  It would have been nice to first hear everything without either AQ or Shunyata.  What do you find without any conditioner, and then with AQ and Shunyata?
Go for (a listening to) the Audionet Watt integrated. It's a real hidden treasure! Holographic, detailed with a kind of tubey flavoured sound! My thoughts is that WC liked it too.Couldn't be happier. Before i was a proud owner of a Plinius Tautoro /SA103 combo.Which was my most satisfying audio set in my life before purchasing the Audionet .Keep in mind that the Plinius combo was ways better than the Nelson Pass XP20/XA 60.5 combo i had before. Also the luxman C700 /M700 combo i heard in a demo couldn't best the Watt to my ears.

Nice spam Viking!  Do people not realize that they are as welcome as robo-calls and that they have the reverse effect? Or at least on me.
Better yet telling the OP to buy some boutique brand that nobody ever heard of which will probably incur a 70% loss when he tries to re-sell it. There isn't a lick of common business sense among many of these people offering suggestions.
Post removed
Yes, buying an expensive boutique brand with probably poor resale value doesn't make much sense.  But buying a cheap brand with unknown resale value is smarter.  An example is the GTA speaker, whose performance is better than big Maggies.  My $2K Mytek Brooklyn Amp has more clarity/neutrality than any other much more expensive class D or other high powered amp I have heard at home.  No need to mention names for obvious reasons.  Now Mytek has come out with a revision at retail $2500.  A manufacturer will always say the revision is better for marketing reasons, but "it ain't necessarily so."  I'll evaluate this one.
I think the OP has pretty much figured out what to buy and what not to at this point of his journey.
In case any of you missed it, i was very clear in one of my videos about the type of equipment i will be selecting. That said, i think i will start to do what a big name youtube blogger suggested i do: DO NOT CHEW THINGS FOR YOUR VIEWERS OR THEY WILL NOT WATCH YOUR ENTIRE VIDEO. IF YOU MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM TO FIND WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR THEN THEY WILL SPEND 30 SECONDS ON YOUR VIDEO AND NOT BE FORCED TO WATCH THE VIDEO.
Of course, if you are interested or care to, it is important you watch my videos if you indeed care to know what is coming next or what my thoughts might be about something. I decided to add the videos as supplemental content to what i do here (also because some of you asked that i do), but i won’t be repeating myself on both platforms (it is stupid). If you don’t care to watch the videos then that is fine, but don’t expect me to come back here and answer something i may have already addressed in one of my videos. I am not telling you all that you must watch anything (you don’t really have to).

With that out of the way, and to repeat myself (i said this in one of my videos last week), i am not going to embark on buying ANYTHING that does not have U.S. representation, has zero visibility here or a boutique brand. Now, notice i said "buying". However, if i one of these brands were to put something at my door for me to try then i welcome that. I am not going to turn away the opportunity to see what other companies are doing and not give them a fair shot. i know there are MANY companies out there that we all don’t even mention here that are doing incredible things and it would be great to review them.
Remember, the big name magazines (we all know who they are) don’t really review the " little guys" because there is money in the middle. For instance, interesting fact that most of you all don’t know, did you know that Merril Audio DID NOT send out his amps to stereophile for review because stereophile wanted $ (i can’t disclose what this was) and the manufacturer refused to be part of this corruption ? yea, so i feel like my contribution to you all is to give these smaller brands exposure whenever i can. Everyone deserves a fair shot and if some of these brands are willing to put their product at my door for me to try then how can i see no?
i actually have cables coming in from a company in California who contacted me here and wanted for me to try their product. I will be doing a video on them very soon and i just got ANOTHER integrated that i will be reviewing. Stay tuned!

+1 WC

I totally agree with your position to avoid answering same questions/comments on both platforms. It is a total waste of your valuable time. Since you’ve been posting your videos on YouTube, I have decided to strictly post my comments on YouTube, since I feel this is the media that is most rewarding to us audiophiles and want to continue to support the production of these videos.

... interesting fact that most of you all don’t know, did you know that Merril Audio DID NOT send out his amps to stereophile for review because stereophile wanted $ (i can’t disclose what this was) and the manufacturer refused to be part of this corruption ? ...
Count me in among those who didn't know this "fact," which sounds more like an urban legend.

Who at Merrill Audio has made that claim? That's a pretty serious accusation to share as merely hearsay, or while remaining anonymous.
I dont think the OP stated the policy correctly in regards to Stereophile. You dont PAY a figure (1 time shot) to have a product reviewed in their pages. You DO have to pay for X number of advertisements in their rag in order to have a product reviewed. I have seen this posted on numerous occasions by people who work for Stereophile....mostly Atkinson. Its in Black and White Print. For somebody not to know this means they havent been paying attention or reading the mags.

Hello Whitecamaross, love your videos!

One small suggestion/request for your comparos/shootouts... In the video itself, please announce verbally which component plays first, second, third, etc... While the sightling majority has plenty of visual cues to identify which component is playing, I and other ears-only audiofools cannot see the screen, and remain in doubt on which might be component #1, #2, etc...

Thanks a bunch, and do keep up your megaquest!

Guido

Do you have a link to Atkinson’s statement?
Of course you don’t, because your claim is false.

Here’s what Atkinson actually says:
"Products are chosen for review in Stereophile on the basis of their relevance to the interests and needs of the magazine’s readers. Reviewers and editors have no role in selling advertising for the magazine, and whether or not a given manufacturer purchases advertising space in Stereophile is irrelevant to a reviewer’s conclusions. There is no connection between a product’s being selected for review and whether or not its manufacturer advertises in the magazine."
For somebody not to know this means they havent been paying attention or reading the mags
Perhaps it is you who should pay closer attention to actual facts.
Cleeds
If Riaa and myself are saying this, don't take it as gospel but it should make you pump your brakes when it comes to how much you believe what magazines write.
Do you really think Michael Jordan was wearing Hanes underwear when he was advertising for them ? Come on.... Money talks , Bs walks. Haven't we heard this already ?
I know what Ive read. No motive to state otherwise. Not going to waste time trying to find out who laid out the magazines policies but it makes complete business sense. If X brand isnt going to advertise why review their gear?  As a person in the hobby I dont like hearing/reading that BUT as somebody who has always been "in business" since 1985 I completely see the need to do things that way and keep the Mag afloat.
whitecamaross
If Riaa and myself are saying this, don’t take it as gospel but it should make you pump your brakes when it comes to how much you believe what magazines write.
Please note that riaa stated his claim was supported in posts
"on numerous occasions by people who work for Stereophile....mostly Atkinson" but when challenged says:
I know what Ive read. No motive to state otherwise. Not going to waste time trying .
Again, here’s a link to the actual Stereophile reviewing policy:
"Products are chosen for review in Stereophile on the basis of their relevance to the interests and needs of the magazine’s readers ... There is no connection between a product’s being selected for review and whether or not its manufacturer advertises in the magazine."

It’s rather interesting that those attacking Stereophile’s integrity do so without any substantiation other than essentially "someone told me" or "I read it somewhere."
Im not attacking anybody. If your reading comprehension skills are adequate you will see that I stated that I can understand WHY any Mag would have that policy. I could have read it in The Absolute Sound for all I know but thought it was Stereophile. Atkinson being in charge in the past would most likely be the person to make such a statement in the mag. I certainly didnt hear it from somebody else and Im not imagining I read it....multiple times in the past.  I have no skin in the game so could care less. Not going to argue and harp on it endlessly.....believe what you want and let it go for Gods sake.
I have zero skin in this game either. i am FAR from being the "hallway monitor" in high school that ratted you out to the principal because you were in the corner smoking a cigarette . If it does not affect me, then i don't pay attention to it. Perhaps i should have kept to myself what i said above because sometimes being too open about things can bite us in the @ss.
i am actually going to use this as an example (or learning lesson) for myself to just shut the hell up and keep things to myself because if the goal in my life is to get from point A to point B then there are things that are better off unsaid EVEN if i feel passionate about a certain subject or if i feel that i should be more transparent with others. Yes, although transparency is important in life in general, there are things that we can't say or do.
Perfect example would be this: HOW MANY OF YOU (YES PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND HERE) have hated your boss/manager and felt that you were right at one time or another, but you knew deep down that it would be better to shut the hell up and carry on because if you wanted to move up the ladder then speaking up WOULD NOT take there?
I am sure we ALL have been there and i am sure some of you actually spoke up about what you believed in and you had consequences that later made you say to yourself " i should have shut the hell up when i had the chance and now i am in this mess".  Truth!
riaa_award_collectors_on_facebook
... If your reading comprehension skills are adequate you will see that I stated that I can understand WHY any Mag would have that policy
Sorry, but facts matter. You emphatically stated, yourself using ALL CAPS for emphasis:
Stereophile. You dont PAY a figure (1 time shot) to have a product reviewed in their pages. You DO have to pay for X number of advertisements in their rag in order to have a product reviewed.
It's fine if you now want to abandon your claim which, as I've already shown you, is in complete conflict with the magazine's stated policy:

"Products are chosen for review in Stereophile on the basis of their relevance to the interests and needs of the magazine’s readers ... There is no connection between a product’s being selected for review and whether or not its manufacturer advertises in the magazine."

The INT-250 sounded good. Would be interesting to see how much of a difference an Odin power cord would make.

I didn't get a chance to read the last day or two.
Regarding products reviewed in the magazines - anytime a product is reviewed, go to the advertisers page (usually towards the rear of the magazine) and look up that brand. I noticed almost all the products reviewed have adds in the magazine. Have any old magazines - check out reviewed products and see if that brand advertises in the magazine.
Independent of what John A. says - looking at what the magazine does illustrates their policy. If 90% of the products reviewed advertise, what does that tell you? Do you think John A is going to come out and say you have to advertise in our magazine to be reviewed - really?  Find a front cover of a product who's brand doesn't advertise in the magazine.
That's similar to "politically incorrect" ... a statement our USA media created and everyone accepted without questioning. To awaken anyone that's asleep - there's no pre-qualifier for right and wrong. It's not - daytime right and nighttime wrong, or private right and public wrong. "Politically Correct" boils down to doing what offends the least number of people so the politician maintains the highest chance for re-election. Unfortunately, it often directly opposes doing what's right - how ironic and terrible :-(. Good leaders do the right thing ESPECIALLY when it's not the easy thing to do. It's called leadership.
People say things all the time, it's what they do that determines their character and destiny.
I thought because of our deep appreciate of music that we (as a group) would have a keen sense of intellect.
Here we go urinating on each other again (this time I said it in a way so the moderator won't remove my post). The result - we all have urine on us. Really?
State your point without trying to belittle the person with the opposing position. Say whatever you want to say, but say it nicely. The better man / person takes the higher ground. Once alienated, no one listens - and no one wins in an argument.
I'm hoping in the future we can all communicate without attacking each other.
I apologize to everyone, especially whitecamaross for derailing his thread with this tyrant but I really felt this needed to be stated.
WC,
My defective computer usually can't load comments on your videos, so I don't know whether you answered my question about what you heard with the AQ Niagara 5000 vs Shunyata Denali 6000T, and how each compared with no conditioner.
tjassoc,
Correct and true, but not "politically" correct, which is often untrue.  Funny mistake--on your last line, you probably meant "tirade" instead of "tyrant."
@tjassoc
Noted. i appreciate your last post and respect your point of view. This is why i closed my statement with me using this as the perfect example to learn NOT TO TALK about things that will not help me get from point A to point B. The only bad thing about that is that there will always be people who will say: "well IF you don't speak the reality of things then you are not being truthful to those of us who follow you" and that is also a very valid statement.

@viber6:
i will be talking about what i think on the Denali Shunyata vs Audioquest Niagara 5000 on my next video.

my error, too much multi-tasking - thanks for the correction viber6 :-)
whitecamaross - the issue of communication is being addressed. It's how to address / discuss an issue. "Say it nicely"
Without good communication, we'll never get from point A to point B.
The best thread ever - as determined by the most posts and longest duration on Audiogon!
Let the journey continue. . .

OK switching gears guys and this is something i am actually trying to explain to myself. This Pass Labs INT250 sounds DAMN GOOD with my Wilson DAW and DCS Vivaldi. I am quite shocked actually at the synergy i am hearing and the HUUUUGE soundstage that this integrated has. This is a preliminary feeling, but this pass integrated and Wilson Sasha DAW have tremendous synergy which has stunned me and totally made me regroup my thoughts about system matching.
Stay tuned for more of my thoughts once i use the Odin 1 on the integrated.

Ps. i am hearing an insane amount of information and tremendous imaging not easily heard before. It feels as if there is another 5% of more information coming through.
@whitecamaross

Continued appreciation for the chronicle of your journey through so many wonderful pieces of hifi gear. I know many here deeply appreciate the effort and financial outlay you have undertaken.

I am not surprised you are impressed by the Pass integrated as well as the Luxman. For many of us, wouldnt it be great if we just had a demo room with 4 or 5 different setups just to change it up from time to time? The good news with a top shelf integrated is that it removes some of the variables and pitfalls. That can also be the bad news. LOL.

I am not as enamored with the Gryphons as are many here but to each his/her own. The Pass (both the XA and the 250) depending on speaker selection, is nice. I haven’t heard the Luxman but keep wanting to give them a listen. The trouble with your Wilsons is they are both quite sensitive and yet they benefit greatly from an amp that can clamp onto them and take charge. I would be interested to see if your journey takes you down the D’Agostino integrated road mentioned by @4425 as well as other top shelf integrateds. I demoed the new Boulder 866 integrated before all the pandemic shutdown and it was mesmerizing. Either Boulder has shifted somewhat or my ears have but the 866 was liquid and captivating. My experience with short listening sessions through the years with Boulder was never disappointing but I never thought about mortgaging the house either. Years ago I seriously considered the 865 but it didn’t move me. The 866 is a departure, at least to my ears.

Keep up the great work and continue having fun. You have wonderful speakers to enable you to hear the differences in gear, which really cranks up the enjoyment factor. Peace.
tjassoc
Do you think John A is going to come out and say you have to advertise in our magazine to be reviewed ...
I know it sounds incredible, but that’s exactly what some have claimed:
riaa_award_collectors_on_facebook
Stereophile. You dont PAY a figure (1 time shot) to have a product reviewed in their pages. You DO have to pay for X number of advertisements in their rag in order to have a product reviewed. I have seen this posted on numerous occasions by people who work for Stereophile....mostly Atkinson.

whitecamaross
... interesting fact that most of you all don’t know, did you know that Merril Audio DID NOT send out his amps to stereophile for review because stereophile wanted $ (i can’t disclose what this was) and the manufacturer refused to be part of this corruption
Of course, there’s absolutely nothing to substantiate those claims - which are just rumor and hearsay - and quite a bit to refute them in the magazine’s stated policy:

"Products are chosen for review in Stereophile on the basis of their relevance to the interests and needs of the magazine’s readers ... There is no connection between a product’s being selected for review and whether or not its manufacturer advertises in the magazine."

cleeds, you are right, on this thread, and on any past and future posts.  There now.

Stay well

#GHASLEY,

Not sure why the OP didn't tell you but he has already had the Dagostino Momentum Integrated before and you can find his impressions if you take the time to read the thread. You can pretty much skip the first half of the thread cause he wasn't trying serious gear back then. It would be great if he tried the Progression INT from Dag but it wouldn't make much sense after having Both the M400 and Mom Integrated already....its going in the wrong direction.  If #4425 feels the Progression INT is on par or better than the separates he has had before I would LOVE to hear about it...could save me some dough (And others). I value his opinion and experience.

riaa..my aural memory is not so keen in terms of comparisons of the great components that i’ve had the good fortune to have in home. not a dog in the bunch.
This is what I can say. The Luxman separates are superb by any measure. I also think that the dag is playing at the same level. however there is a definite flavor difference.  The Luxman sound in my system was excellent with neutral tonality and musicality. maybe a ‘little’ cooler.
the dag is different in tonality being warmer/fuller with the finest midrange i’ve heard in my home whether tube or ss. a unique combination of extreme smoothness with excellent detail. it has me listening more intently to vocals with the cleanest sibilants i’ve ever heard.
at the end of the day i don’t feel that there is a meaningful ‘quality’ difference between the two. for me I wouldn’t sell the Luxman duo to purchase the Dag but if I was starting from scratch i would look very hard at the Dag and not because it’s 12k less expensive. it kills the bias that integrated amps are somewhat compromised.
Appreciate the Comparison 4425. Sounds like a winner!! Might just have to trade something in to get one. Id be curious as to the difference between the 2 DAG Int's besides the price. The Momentum ones I know of didn't have the "upgraded" Preamp side so wondering if the Newer Progression have similar guts in that regard. Also hoping to find the warmer and more musical Luxman 800's at an affordable price OR wait and see if Luxman goes back to Class A on their next upgrade cycle of the Power Amp. Thanks again for sharing....and my wallet thanks you too!
the dag integrated has some of the HD technology. i seriously doubt that the momentum unit blows it away. also the progression has chassis features from the relentless. 250 units were presold.
Don’t take that "250" units presold as an indication of the success of the product. It hasn’t established itself the way the luxman 900u or momentum stuff has. It’s just a new product at this time...nothing else...
Nothing is successful until there is enough product out in the field and has been validated by its performance. This doesn’t mean it is not a good product but don’t be fooled by the "250" units. I’m sure there are many other companies that probably had more items presold and they ended up being failures.
Maybe I end up buying one but I need to let everyone have their fun with it before I come in and do my analysis here. That Integrated has tremendous competition and it needs to deliver the goods or the used market will end up getting flooded with it.
we’ll of course see on the Dag’s success or lack thereof but I can say that it absolutely plays on the same field as the Luxman and Rowland gear that I’ve had and greatly admire.. whether they sell 10 or 10000 is irrelevant as to how it performs. we’re comparing excellent to excellent and without a direct comparison over a reasonable amt of time no opinion can be valid as it’s just an uninformed opinion.

agreed. i won't touch that integrated just yet, but i am sure i will.
Word on the street is that pass labs will soon be revealing a monster integrated based on the pass 350.8....  INT 350?
