Is Townshendisolation.com a scam site?

Hi, Is townshendisolation.com a scam site?

I have recently tried to purchase Seismic Bars from Townshendisolation.com and have had no change to my order status for 13 days now, using their online webchat and e-mailing the company multiple times gets no response, in fact the e-mail redirects to townshendaudio.com which I also have had no response from when submitting e-mail informing them about this behavior from the townshendisolation site. I e-mailed townshend audio to let them know of a potential clone site and also to try and figure out early if I had been scammed.

Given the lack of response from either site, I am going to now try and get my bank to reverse the card charges and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem since the products seem legit and people have actually purchased these successfully from somewhere. Looking online I can find no indication of either site being scammers so wanted to put this out there as a cautionary tale that would show up in a search for people with similar experiances.

At this stage I recommend never attempt to buy from from townshendisolation.com and am not impressed with townshendaudio.com's lack of response either, even though it is not their site and I am not looking for compensation from them, they could at least have saved me a few days by telling me I wether I have been scammed or not.

This is a sad first post after having joined and lurked here since 2010 but I have been lucky with online purcashing overall and am not ging to lose life-changing money on this. Just buyer-beware and due-diligence!!

At the time of this post the toenshendaudio.com page wont even load into my browser lol

sluggraveyiii

website works for me.  I have bought from them.

My guess is they are on vacation or takend away for an emergency and you are getting all worked up over nothing.

While Amazon and bot emails have made holding your hand with communication hourly common, it isn't how many established companies do it.  If a company isn'tt automated so that bots send out emails, then it gets very time consuming.

I run a small business in my spare time.  I  do not send out an email when I recieve an item for repair, I don't send out an email when I ship something back, and I don't send tracking info.

Fortunately I'm quick and most people get their item back before they realize it is time for them to start pestering me.

Jerry

I just got a pair of super tweeters from them. They were slow to respond and send me a ship date, but when I mentioned canceling the order, they got things moving. I love these super tweeters.

Thanks for this good info ,it is really helpful and it would be great to be worked up over nothing rather than something!

I'll now wait a bit longer before taking action and definately post here on either outcome

Respecfully, I dont agree that from a customers perspective 13 days with no notification of delay or timeframes on the website due to stock delays, vacations or emergencies, no order updates and no reply to repeated attempts of communication is a good online model for current times.

A response or indication on any one of these and I would be fine, and I have previously  waited months for orders before (like most of us probably have)..Just pop that delay notification message somewhere on that website and we are golden!

However, as Jerry has said, we consumers are now used to information and quick replies and I appreciate his perpective (as I have no real idea of what it takes or how hard it is to run a business) even though not agreeing with townshendisolation's implementation of it.

If I am in the minority I might have to reassess my expectations and reallign to the norm as I eat humble pie...

Thinking about it, bot replies are pretty useless

@sluggraveyiii id agree with you. That’s a bad look - small shop or giant conglomerate. 13 days is a long time.

Once I was interested in their product for my speakers. Asked them further info via email for my specific application. Zero answers ever. No thanks.

yes, I've always meant townshendaudio.com, the "e" and "w" being next to each other on the keyboard are not good for clumsy typing fingers here-Sorry about my typo's. I also hit capslock a lot when going for "a" (surely others do too?) Just to look it up for laughs, there is no toenshendaudio site thank heavens....Figured I'll give townshendisolation until monday 31st to respond or update the site status before having to deal with documentation and bank administrators.

Thanks for more info and keeping me honest, it really does help form a more accurate picture...

As much as I really like the Townshend products (I own the podiums and the F-1 speaker cables) and have always had excellent communication, with the passing of the founder, I wonder if they now may be spiraling out of control. It may be very difficult for them to secure funding or even produce new products. I hope this is not the case. ozzy

Good people, good product , but bad times. The bright and motivated people that invent, make and sell the stuff that genuinely improve audio have my respect for sure...It's rough when things dont work out and I also hope the business does well as honest people losing livelihoods is never good.

It had not occurred to me that they might be experiancing business difficulties but that does make sense since there is no record of townshendisolation.com being scammers and I am such a minor first-time customer of one of their cheaper products.

Despite my misgivings so far I am not angry in any way and would be happy to receive the product (for all I know, my e-mails are in their spam box and the product is on it's way!), than attempt a credit reversal and buy the product elsewhere!

Starting this thread was and is about letting the next buyer beware and my own education since I couldnt find any information about this online.

Thanks ozzy, I may have read a post or two of yours over the years!

I had a good experience but two friends waited a while -- in one case, the podia were just stuck in DHL limbo.

My guess is that it may be they're short staffed and that this is Brexit generated mishegoss.

I ordered podiums from them via email good and fast response they were shipped in approximately 4-5 days but as previously stated DHL dropped the ball they sat in warehouse for an extra week all my concerns re correct size for my speakers were addressed I corresponded with a gentleman who’s first name is John he was available and fast to answer my questions the best part is the podiums elevated my system over any other tweak that I have installed

"13 days is a long time."

Anybody else here remember when you were a kid and you wanted to order something from a bubblegum wrapper or the back ads in "Grit" paper and you had to send a SASE and 35c and wait 6-8 weeks?  Often by the time it showed up you had totally forgotten about it.

Anyway, I hope you hear from them soon.

Jerry

I order from them regularly. I always receive a response within a day, often almost immediately. I have never experienced any delays in product shipped.

I ordered my Townshend products via Ebay.

The dealer was very knowledgeable and my order was completed without issue.

PM me for his tag.

FWIW, Townshend is a stand up company. I believe Mr. T's daughter is now running the show.

I, too, would be concerned by the lack of communication, but Europeans seem to be a bit more casual than Americans when it comes to getting things done, unfortunately.

Bob

Well then, it does seem that townshendisolation.com  is not a scam site after all with multiple responses here from overall satisfied customers with communication variances the norm. Thanks everybody for your responses so far.

Just to clarify I was only questioning the authenticity of townshendisolation and not townshendaudio primarily because of lack of communication via web-forms by today's measures, and that townshendisolation's contact e-mail redirects to townshendaudio which i find odd. This is still the case as of the time of this post

For unknown reasons I seem to have just fallen through the gaps with this wait for signs of life, and I will shortly submit a request for contact on both sites webforms one last time (third time) this friday afternoon which will be about 3 am Friday in the U.K. Giving it until tuesday my time for them to contact me back seems fair at this point.

I guess its going to happen every now and then and will probably buy from another source a la Bob once I have confirmed that there are to be no packages crawling through angry oceans on the next container ship headed my way!

For more information, I do use a VPN (PIA) sporadically on phone and computer and the DuckDuckGo browser, along with Firefox and the Adblockers uBlock and Ghostery which in conjunction play nice with most online shopping platforms and almost never cause unannounced problems, I have tried here with and without VPN to contact the sites so far and am not going to totally discount that this problem could be mine in the making although I have always been able to spot and troubleshoot problems before (doesnt mean i always will)

I hope this remains as a good reference if it happens to another customer as to what the final resolution and cause may be.

Will update...

I really hate reading this when I know the company is reputable.

But, lack of communication is unacceptable these days.

@sluggraveyiii ,

What are you buying? I have a bunch of Townshend stuff I probably should sell, as I am not using it.

Bob

Well it's good news for me with a DHL package now on its way from Townshendaudio.

The update was from DHL with still no communication via e-mails or the websites themselves ,not even updating the order process. This is odd to me, but at least I know the business model now and will be less concerned and more patient with ordering again if their products make positive changes to my system.

So to recind any accusatory questions I will also answer my own question, which to be fair everyone esle had already pointed out, and agree that

townshendisolation is NOT a scam site

and will deliver your goods even if you are unlucky and experiance of a total blank of commnication. This was only a moderately longer wait than normal to get things in the mail i the long run.

This type of question from clients is easily avoided by answering e-mail/webforms, having either a notification or delivery process timeframe on their website, or just by being quicker to get things in the mail if they are not going to communicate order status themselves.

Without any communication I cannot know if a business is experiancing difficulty, and without notifications I will assume that everything is normal on their end, which only makes the lack of updates or communication over a longer than normal timeframe suspicious for first-time customers that may have lost trust on other online portals.

Thankyou to those that have posted, for the supporting information which has helped reduce my ignorance, helped prevent my kneejerk repsonse, and also helped to obtain a positive final outcome. Hopefully the next person sees this and is a little more assured and patient as a response too!
