Cullen Cable

I called Wyred 4 Sound asking to speak with Patrick but was told he is no longer there. I then searched the web and came across this thread,  which after reading all that I’ve read, can’t say I’m surprised. Interesting that he requires people to send an email to receive a quote for each order, collects payment, and then sits on it. Sounds like a severe lack of motivation!

i thought patrick cullen would work out there as his dad rick does (or did, at least, as of a year or so ago)

I received an email last month, from Patrick, that he and Wyred are now separated as it did not work out. I re-read the email to make sure that I was posting the right thing.

i had reached out earlier to Wyred to split my 6’ cables into 3 and re-terminate. They were pretty good on the response. But looks like Cullen is back.

Patrick shipped out the order today after another email, sounds like he has been way too busy, oh well, it's just cables, hopefully he can catch up with the demand.

One would think that Wyred4sound would be liable for the commitments of a company they absorbed unless someone were cunning enough to put in some rider to negate that. Maybe contact Wryed4sound with your purchase info and email coms to see how they respond?

Patrick would be dead to me......be careful out there

He sold his company to Wyred4Sound so maybe you’ve got outdated contact info?  I know I’m reaching here, but other people are getting cables so not sure what else could be going on here.  And you’re right — that delay is absolutely absurd and you’re much more patient than I woulda been, but that said something seems really amiss here.  Best of luck in getting this sorted, and sorry to hear you’re going through this!

Well so far we are coming up on one year since I placed my order and no cables yet. I am waiting on 3 XLR interconnects and 2 power cables. I email Patrick every month or so, if I remember, and he always replies and is pleasant and says they will be shipping that week. This cycle has repeated itself for the last 9 months. Waiting a couple months for custom cables is one thing but this is getting absurd.

I ordered a pair of power cables from him 3 weeks ago. Don't know when will I receive them 🤣

Another update.  Patrick's still making cables and responded to me within 24 hours with a quote.  I placed the order yesterday.  Seems to be same as ever.  Looking forward to receiving great cables.

I wanted to give an update on my recent order of a 3 ft. Crossover II power cord from Cullen Cable. As stated above, via email Patrick replied to me in 24 hours. and I recieved the power cord 30 days  from that point.  The Crossover II power cord is now of a new design with added filtering to it (I own two of the older versions to compare). @kren0006 I'd assume so. Drop him an email. Just be aware that u may receive your order in 2-3 weeks or much much longer. I think wait time may just depends on what your ordering. 

So is Cullen Cables still taking cable orders from the Cullen site or not?  I'm not clear if it all migrated to the other company he mentioned or what?

pat response time is within 2-3 days for me. But i try to only email him once every 5-6wks to say "hi". Guess my only issue is that his response is usually ill have them shipped out next week and then another 5wks goes by 🤷.

This is concerning. I have made purchases from him the last couple of years and he always responded within a couple of days to my emails. 

I have not and for a $1200 order placed 2 1/2 months ago I’m getting a little concerned I understand and trust his reputation online but.

@nilecniv damn. Placed mine in March as well and I have a feeling I still won't have them by Aug. 

Return customer that placed a sizeable order with Patrick in March and received them by May. His communication isn't the best or even realistic with timing, but you will get them!

Thanks for the reply, this is my first order with him ~$1200, 4 power cables and a power strip. He has a great reputation and certainly he's affected by supply chain issues like everyone else. It's not necessarily the wait, which I can understand, but at least try to be somewhat timely on communication. Also with the sale to Wyred 4 Sound that is probably taking up a lot of time.

I know I will get the cables...I trust Patrick. But I cant predict when. I dont want to make any public theories about why the wait time has been so long but this has been going on for a couple yrs now. I have ordered from him in the last couple years so I kind a half prepared for this. 

Anyways... feel confident that you will get your cables and also he had developed a new design for his Crossover Series that he says has even less noise than previous. You should be getting the updated Crossover designed cables...if that's what u ordered. 

To put things in perspective a little...I've been waiting on a preamp for 7 months. They decided to "update" the faceplate. The thing is built...but is just sitting.on the shelf because it takes 7+ months to make a faceplate... :/

So wither these cables come tomorrow or next month...Im not playing any music without a volume control. 

I have a decent sized outstanding order that was placed April 22. I emailed Patrick 2.5 weeks ago and haven't received a response yet.

He does still seem to be taking orders via email, even though his website states otherwise. He might be in the process of winding down or transitioning though.

@davidrolon Thanks for the insight. I had a similar experience recently where we Patrick recommended a cable based on my gear and budget.

What are your thought's now that you've had the cables in your system a bit longer? Which power cables did you choose?

@jerryg123 Signal was going to be my other option. If my Cullen order falls through, I will place an order with Signal.

@tmac1700 Yeah, it does seem to be so. I guess he's not keen on overestimating the lead time and delivering early.

@nilecniv i think the 2- 3wk is just a boiler plate auto respose. I have no doubt you will get your cables. But i think the wait time is more like 2-3 months.

I placed my order for eight cables from Patrick about 4 weeks ago. I’ve ordered from him about a year ago and all was smooth. His email responses have been slow from a couple days to over a week for a response at times, so placing the order was an extended process. I was told the cables would be delivered in 2-3 weeks, but nothing yet. Even though he may have merged or sold his company, I do think he needs to be more realistic in communicating timelines and expectations to the remaining customers. 

Signal Cable is running 2 to 3 WEEKS.

rick is head tech at w4s, not sure if he is part owner with e-j... rick built a name modding gear at his own shop called cullen circuits, among his good work are well modded, nice sounding dacs like the ps audio d-link, among others

pat makes cables aside from any involvement at w4s

Lowrider...good to hear. I looked on the wyred site and there was no mention of his stuff.

A few months back I contacted Patrick via email to inquire about some power cables. We had a very lively email discussion and he actually took the time to inquire as to what make and model gear they would be attached to. He even went as far as to inquire what my sonic preferences were. That all went very well with no delays. I paid in advance for the 3 cables, which he acknowledged. I then asked if we could add a 4th cable and got a semi non-committal response.. shortly thereafter Patrick told me he was running a little bit behind and it would be about 3 weeks for delivery. At around the 8-week mark I checked in with Patrick and he promptly responded that he had been on vacation (spending some of that w4s dough??) and my cables were actually ready to ship. I received them about a 2 weeks later. Patrick's location is within a day or two shipping-wise, so all told I waited around 11 weeks. Cables arrived and all is well. What's weird is the plug heads on both ends of the cables I ordered are so huge they didn't fit through the holes in my rack and I had to reconfigure my cord layout. That's more of an FYI though. As for performance I'm very pleased in that there was no downgrade in Sonic quality, and they are absolutely indestructible regarding build quality. The jury is still out on whether there was much of a sonic improvement. I have had other instances with cables that there was a dramatic improvement or decline, but in this case it was not super noticeable. It does seem like the soundstage opened up a bit. When it's all said and done despite what you would consider, in this day and age, a fairly minor delay, Patrick was super friendly, reasonably responsive and a pleasure to deal with. Sometimes people passionately build small businesses with everything they've got, and after a while decide to sell. Sometimes that results in little to no noticeable decline, or a complete crash and burn of the product. Regardless of the outcome, he earned whatever windfall and success he achieved. Would be interested to know what the next chapter is if he remains in the hobby.

His digital cables are real winners IMO.  I have his speaker cables, interconnects and power cords as well.  Excellent performers.
