I'm hoping to expand my Classical Rock playlist. So far I have:
Jan & Dean - Pop Symphony No. 1 The Moody Blues - Days Of Future Past Deep Purple - Concerto For Group And Orchestra
LSO - British Invasion
The Who - Who's Serious
Chad and Jeremy -- Of Cabbages and Kings ELP -- pretty much everything. Renaissance -- the rock group. Sorry to say, I just can't find any of their LPs on my shelves. Did I sell them all?
I have ELP, Renniassance, Chad & Jeremy. I’m looking for instrumentation NOT sound.
petg60 Yes to Symphonic Live. They did an obscure Studio album shortly after. They started their shows in the 70’s with taped orchestral. Firebird. Thanks
Metallica - Symph. & Metal another good one. So is S & M 2. EC only released 3 tracks with orchestration on 24. I already found 2 Floyds (one short of a brewery) that I already have. All I'm looking for are Symphonic rock covers or an orchestra playing WITH a rock band. Or at least interludes that serve the song as in The Moody's. NOT classically trained songwriting OR studio arrangements.
Being specific is not "picky" Please do not attempt to explain EWF to me. They are a home town band. I have 25 albums and Live In Japan '88 vid. R.I.P. Mo They did their 50th show in James Taylor's backyard. https://www.bso.org/a-f/earth-wind-and-fire.aspx
Great Italian prog band, Banco, did an all instrumental album called "Di Terra" in 1978.
It is one of the best integrations of a prog band and an orchestra I've ever heard. It doesn't just sound like a rock band fronting an orchestra. They play as an integrated unit with the orchestra.
And it's also not just orchestral arrangements of previous band material, or pop, or mainstream rock. It is modern sounding, fully realized orchestral music.
Early black sabbath, certain jethro tull, certain led zeppelin, certain jimi hendrix, certain pink floyd, certain steve miller, early zz top, early george thorogood, and early ventures.
@fuzztone ´´ Turtle Island ´´ : For some Indigenous peoples, Turtle Island refers to the continent of North America. The name comes from various Indigenous oral histories that tell stories of a turtle that holds the world on its back.
It is a lack of culture , I confess . I finally understood that it was Turtle Island String Quartet I learn so many things here. Regards
Lighthouse...11 Piece band out of Canada late 60's-Mid 70's. They were an orchestra...Strings/Horns/Woodwinds etc (Somewhere between CHICAGO and BS+T in Sound)
Totally familiar with Lighthouse. Not exactly orchestral. Horn arrangements were never in the league of Pankow. They turned down Woodstock. I prefer the Lighthouse album by Billy Barber but not for this p/l.
I don’t like any of this rock-classical crossover stuff, except maybe Eric Carmen’s All By Myself which is probably not what your looking for, but I just heard a free sample from Amazon for Your DJ playlist:
Haven't been a DJ for 53 years. Famous piece. Opposite of desired. I'm looking for ochestral ensembles playing rock with or w/o the band. Not so much just sweetening the mix. Not synthesized arrangements of classical tunage. Thanx anyway.
