Cerious Technologies NEW Graphene Cables

Now, this is not a advertisement, just a posting sharing my experience on some well made great sounding cables at a very reasonable price. Besides, I don't think Cerious Technologies is set up for a big influx of cable orders.

But, if you get the chance to try these cables, please do.

I have been interested in the newer cables coming out that are using Graphene as a conductor. SR cables seemed interesting, but I always hated the way there cables had all those extra wires (with the active shields and such). I then noticed an ad early in I think November or December from Cerious Technologies for Graphene cables. I investigated how the cables were assembled and it seemed like quite a laborious process.

I ordered (with a 30 day money back guarantee) the balanced Graphene interconnects, and boy did they impress me. Such depth, soundstage, realism, frequency smoothness, effortless sound. I was truly impressed!  I now have a complete loom of the Cerious Technologies Graphene cables. That is; interconnects, speaker cables, digital cables and power cords.

I ended up selling all of my other cables and to those of you who have read my postings know that cables have always been my curiosity.

So, as I began this post, let me again iterate, I have no alliance to the company, my posting is for those of you looking for an great alternate high quality Graphene made cable without spending a fortune.

I've had the speaker cables now about 3 weeks and I've got 50+ hours on them I estimate.  If there is more improvement in them, well that would be a bonus because they are better sounding now than any speaker cable I've used in the past.

For those unaware, the cables come as 4 individual cables, a separate + and a - for each channel, and there is serious heft to these.  These are pretty impressive to handle and look at.  They are very well made and Bob sends along hookup instructions for those who might be confused.  I will say the size of these makes hooking them up a bit of effort.  The connector lead is reduced in diameter for the last half foot from the hose sized cable so that helps but it might be tricky to run these through a tight rack.  My amp sits exposed on a floor rack between my speakers and my speaker connections pose no issue.  I need to get some cable elevators.

One standout feature is bass support.  I'm getting more bass extension and weight with these than I've ever heard in my system before.

I've never really been sure what kind of bass effects are used on the Lorde Pure Heroin album.  My LP has always exposed a low level sound effect that has challenged my speaker's bottom range.  I don't use a sub.  It has in the past just pounded without a lot of definition.  I can now clearly hear what is recorded and if by magic my speakers have found a new level of support that only a sub would have exposed.  To be fair, I also have a new tube amp that is far more linear than my previous one, but I swapped the old cables back in once and that was the last time that is going to happen.

Highs are equally sweet seemingly without end but there is no glare or harshness.  Loud trumpet and violin runs to the instrument's upper limits simply don't offend any more, unless the musician has issues.  LOL.

Lastly and this comes through all the time, the overall macro level sound is very full but with amazing transparency.  I really can't find a sonic fault, and certainly not at Bob's very fair price.

keithtexas - They don't make it easy or intuitive on AG to contact other members directly. I've found this method to work. From the AG homepage under the Explore dropdown menu select Member Lookup. Enter their username in the search box and hit return, then if you click on their username you're given the option to Send Message. There must be an easier way, but hope this helps!

jsm71,

Great description. They really are very good cables. Did you get spades or banana's?

Hi Everyone,

I have a Mark Levinson System (30.6 DAC, 52 pre-amp and 532 amp) with all Nordost Tyr 2 wiring, expect the digital cable which is Valhalla 1.

System is very 3D sounding but I can tell more could be achieved.

Spoke to Bob yesterday and placed an order.

Will see if this will be an improvement

Ozzy,

I ordered spades on both ends.  My speakers use the Cardas connector that has a knob to tighten both leads with equal force at the same time.

This is a great and clever connector but bananas really don't work well.  I bring the spades up from underneath rather than over the top.

I also like spades at the amp end for a tighter fit, although my amp's binding posts are kind of close together.  Bananas might have been easier to connect, but I still like the spades.  Also with heavy cables, spades don't pull the binding post downward as much as a banana might.

lprules1962,

What type of cables did you order? No matter though, comparing them to the Nordost will surprise you.

jsm71,

I have been using spades also, but with my latest 2 way DIY speaker project I have ordered banana's for them. The connections will be quite high off the ground and I hope the banana's stay connected.

Lprules1962, please let us know what you think about speaker cables in compare with Nordost Tyr2.

When I got speaker cables and power cords from Bob, I heard immediate improvement from  Bobs power cords (yellow and blue) in compare with my Fusion Audio magic cords with furutech FI-50 connectors.

But the Graphene speakers cables even after 150 hours of burning had not been better in my system than latest luminist version of Purist audio Aqueous speaker cables. The Purist sounded more natural with better defined bass and bigger sounstage. I had to return Graphene speaker cables, but still keeping the power cords. They just simply outstanding especially considering their price.

denon1,

This just shows that everything is system dependent and results vary.  I have the blue power cord and on my amp it is very good but not noteworthy.  The speaker cables on the other hand, in my system, seem amazing.  Go figure.

Ozzy,

I ordered 6 power cords, 3 reds, 3 blues. 2 pairs of speaker cables, 2 pairs of XLR interconnects, and 1 XLR digital cable.

I like the Nosdost but to get to the next level, i.e. Valhalla 2 is simply too much money. Before Nosdost I have AudioQuest Sky and Redwood.

Came across this thread and based on comments from a lot of senior members (you included), I want to see if this is the next logical choice.

denon1,

Will report once I have them and set them up.

I believe I read here that a member has Nosdost replaced by GE, if you are reading this can you please opine on the experience?
Yes everything is system dependent. This is why we offer a 30 day money back trial so you can experience them yourself in the comfort of your home with your equipment. With this acknowledgment, what does this say about audio reviews of equipment and especially cables in major magazines? Funny how the reviewers never address this little "problem". Trust your own ears and remember that it is you who you are trying to make happy. We now stand at 3 sets of GE speaker cables returned...out of over 250 sets sold. I will take that...
@jsm71

I can echo your finding of bass extension, which is very deep. My only concern is that, while they do go so deep, I’m not sure about the attack and impact of it. I’m not sure if that is because they lack in that department, or if some other cables accentuate mainly the mid bass. I’m beyond my return window, so I can’t return them anyway. No problem, as I really enjoy the music with them. Vocals are just great.

I am going to try and do a shotgun run with the GE and the Douglas cables I compared them with.  They clearly have a different sound, more bass slam with the Douglas, but much better mid and high clarity with the GE.  Maybe a shotgun run would be the best of both worlds!  Hope it doesn't brick my amp, though.
Heya rob, I sent ya a couple of emails but have not gotten a response yet. Hope to hear from ya soon

Some clarifications from my previous post. Even so the Purist Luminiust Aqueous speaker cables had been better than GE in my system, but even with a good dealer discounts on purist - they are about 2.5 times more expensive than GE. So for the price the GE speaker cables are terrific and Bob provided (in my case) with prompt customer service and accommodated all my requests fast. So for those on the market looking for great speaker cables up to 1-1.5 thousand  $ range, it may be hard to find something better. Don't hesitate to contact Bob.

My hope that Bob will find a time to come up with even better (its ok if they will be more pricey) models of his cables range so we all can benefit. Market currently flooded with so many super expensive cables that in reality don't sound even remotely close to their asking price.

mtrot,  jsm71,

What type of equipment are you using with the Cerious cables? Also try lifting the speaker cables off the floor.

lprule1962,

Wow, you went all in, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

denon 1,

That is surprising, because I owned the Purist Dominus and the Cerious Technologies cable to me is much better.

ozzy,

I am playing my Oppo BDP-83 via HDMI into a Denon AVR-X5200 receiver, which is connected via High Fidelity CT-1 interconnects to my Krell FPB-400cx power amp.   Legacy Audio Signature II speakers connected with Cerious GE speaker cables.
I am now a certified GE cable addict. Just ordered a blue PC for my amp.

I can stop any time I want...

tommylion - That's what we all say! Admitting you have a problem is the first step towards recovery, but most of us audiophiles are not looking to recover since we're too busy enjoying the tunes!
@ozzy On the subject of banana connectors versus spades you may want to reconsider, I went all banana connectors on my speaker cables despite Bob strongly recommending spades. Sure enough a banana sheared off from the weight of the cables on the speaker end, monitors on stands. Bob being who he is naturally re-terminated the cables with spades at no charge and got them back to me in  a week. Just a cautionary tale these are heavy cables. Good luck!

jond,

Thanks for the advice. I sure hope the bananas have been improved upon so they don't break.

ozzy

We went through 6 different sets of bananas but we finally have bananas that I am proud of the sound and so far have been bullet proof, They are Silver plated copper and should last a long time. I insist on everything I make lasting a LONG time...Still prefer spades but many find bananas appealing...

Ozzy,

My analog gear is a Marantz TT 15S1 turntable (next to upgrade) with a Lyra Delos cartridge mated to Bob's Devices Sky 10 SUT.  Digital is covered with a Marantz SA8004 SACD/CD player.  I use Morrow level 4 cables with the front end pieces into a Cary SLP-98P preamp.  It's all CT cables from there.  I use a Linear Tube Audio ZOTL40 (David Berning design) amp and JansZen zA2.1 hybrid ESL speakers.  The CT cables are a custom length IC to the amp, blue PC, and Bob's speaker cables.

I wanted to change the connectors as one of them got broken by a child. Took apart a set of Graphene speaker cables and what I found was just regular silver plated stranded copper wire.. the shot in them was not copper, it was copper plated steel.
Unlike LC cables where you could actually see the ceramic, I found nothing of this kind or any other kind of filling in both Nano and Graphene series. The wires there are just stuck in a empty tube, which isn't a bad thing...it's just that I don't understand the whole Nano and Graphene stuff then.

?? Shouldn't they be filled with the ceramic/graphene slurry? Looks like gun powder I think.

subdusted,

Interesting. I would think the leads on the ends to be that way. But, once the cable enters the thicker part that is where I would think the graphene and ceramic would be.

The Graphene is Pressure injected into the wire bundle and the fill was listened to to get the best sonic result. This was a Ground connector, the Positive is totally of a different configuration...Any problems with the sound or price? BTW I got married last night so will taking a couple of days off...
Bob
Bob congratulations and I wish much happiness to you and your lovely new wife! Enjoy your well deserved time off!

Hmmm.  I'm really impressed with my GE speaker cables, but I'm not so sure what to think about posts with any possibly negative info being removed. I do hope there was some good cause for the removal.
I am an open book. Did not have anything to do with any entries being removed. Any questions just ask. I do have somethings that are secrets as to why my cables sound so good but otherwise will answer anything. I will say the only way to get to the internal "fat" part of the cables is to totally destroy the cable to figure out how they are made. Replacing a connector will not even get you close. Very odd all the way around. If you are going to destroy a cable pick a positive lead - they are much more interesting - and require an electron microscope...

mtrot,

I see that there a few posts removed. I assure you I had no part in it. Good or bad opinions should remain.

I wonder if the poster was banned?

I don't care If there's peanut butter and jelly inside the cables, they sound freaking awesome.

mtrot,

I removed my posts,  I am a ghost on this site and others and I had second thoughts about challenging subdusted over his claims. Without any history of leaving posts I did not want to make matters worse, which I did anyway, plus I realized he was trolling and almost fell for it...

If you check Bob's feedback I am the latest entry, I purchased two blue HC power cable last week, I own other CT cables as well. Bob did not leave  feedback for me for the latest transaction,  I guess he is busy working on lprules 1962 order.

IMO what subdusted was wrong in his approach to finding answers to his questions, if that really is his motivation, and borders on fear pandering.

I am terrible at leaving feedback - my apologies. Every minute I spend not making cables to get them shipped in a timely manner I feel guilty about so I neglect "normal" things like feedback. Will try to do better. Believe me you are appreciated!
jeffrey75 thanks for coming back and clearing that up and I read your post before you deleted it and thought it was fine. But I understand your reluctance to mix it up being new. Bob stop replying to this thread and make more cables! Faster! :p

6 power cords (3 Red & 3 Blues), 2 pairs of XLR interconnects and 1 digital cable came 4 days ago. Initial impression is stunning.

Replaced 3 Tyr 2 power cords and 3 Frey 2 power cords, 2 pairs of Tyr 2 XLR interconnects and 1 Valhalla (1) digital cable.

System opened up at around 60 hours. I cannot put in finger at what frequency range is better, as often the case with most cables, it just sound very, very uniform.

The stunning part comes in the 3D, holographic presentation. My system is very good in imaging and 3D sound. I have tons on information coming from out of bounce locations, including sound to my extreme left and right AT the listening position and in between.

With the GE cables in, the 3D quality expanded, and the soundstage expanded as well.

I run the system 24/7 and every night I listen to music for a couple of hours. Usually from 11pm to 1am. The cables are still undergo changes.

Worst point was on day 2 when it sounded constricted and closed-in. On day 3 it started to sing.

Today the speaker cables arrived. two 8' pairs that will replace 2 10' pairs of Tyr 2 speaker cables.

Will report once settled down.

Want to thank people in this thread that without stumble on this, I would not have tried the cables.

As of now, I do not think I will get the cables out of my system. And so far I do not hear any short comings.

A bit off topic - I asked Bob if he has a USB cable, and he said he might in the future.

With the upgrade bug in me, I took the advice from a lot of you guys and ordered the Curious USB from Australia. Should be arriving next week.

My current USB cables are Heimdall 2 and Harmonic Light Speed 10G.

Hope that works out as well.

Unfortunately the SC and IC's never opened up for me. So I return them. Now I use cables with magnets in them :)  More expensive but they work much better in my system.
Blue PC is plugged into my amp and sounding really good right off the bat. Looking forward to when it is fully broken in.

All set with PCs & digital, ICs & SCs are next, as funds permit.

aniwolfe,

Its good that you at least tried them. I guess that's why there are so many cable brands. "To each his own".

I have also tried the magnet cables, but I prefer the Cerious Graphenes.

lprules1962, tommylion,

Congrats! I think you will find the speaker cables quite special.
