Sounds like a mid 70's RT album(a good thing) Wasn't aware he released album earlier this year.
Thanks for calling this one out. May have to get a "new LP"
"ll go as far as saying it's better than Bridge of Sighs, certainly recorded better"
The trick is finding an unmolested "stamper" I have this pressing.
RT's Strat tone coming thru the laptop speakers.
Even chicks dig Trowers tone

Thanx, I ordered two CDs.

Try a test listen off YouTube with a decent set of headphones on....

Nice album. Listening to it on Tidal now. Wow!
|
This is a great album! 🙂 It does sound very good.
|
I really like him. I saw him here in Phoenix a few years ago and he was wonderful. Thanks for the heads up. I will get this disc.
|
Thanks, I will play this tonight, love Robin Trower

Prog Rockers may like Porcupine Tree's latest:
|
He sounded like a different player with Procol Harum because he played a Les Paul with them.
|
Thanks for the post. I just listened to the 16/44 Qobuz download.
However, I thought the music was boring and not so high in sound quality. But to each his own.

I'm with Ozzy, excellent first song then downhill from there. Some clarity in the background but his distorted sound kind of kills it. Outside of Procol, never a big fan of his, so don't pay me any attention.

And as the last Porcupine Tree, shame on Steven Wilson. His vinyl pressed in Czekoslovakia is of such poor quality, noisy with tiny scratches, I had to buy the CD from Italy. All that wait for this?!? Very disappointing and the music is better than his last solo efforts but not anything as good as earlier PT.

So I listened to most of the songs on youtube this evening, and I was disappointed. Robin definitely still has his chops, but his band is a disappointment. His current singer is no replacement for his original, and he sounds weak and a bit hoarse.
The drummer is average, and that's being kind. I think better accompaniment would inspire him more, and with his history he should be able to find that without much trouble. I also thought that the songwriting was pretty flat.

I took a listen last night via Spotify. Not bad, but I probably won't be buying it. Not compelling enough to get me to part with $20-$30 for the LP. I was a pretty big fan of his solo work back in the day. I don't think this compares, except maybe on sound quality/recording.

Meh...Easy to forget that in my playlist, so won't bother.....
|
I appreciate him making good old school Trower at 77 years old..love it or hate it...
|
Diggin the vibe. Nice pick!
|
@baylinor - did you notice that Steven only wrote about 3 songs on the new PT album? I guess he figured if he was going to write everything, he may as well make it a Steven Wilson album, not a PT one.... So most of the songs were written by Richard Barbieri and Gavin Harrison.

@larsman
Plus he played bass on the entire album, not bothering to ask Colin Edwyn to come in. Colin said he was never even asked. I think he is great. Big mistake imo. Steven said he wanted to play it because he plays the bass like the guitar and he wanted that sound. What? He has been saying for a while that pop is one of the greatest kind of music around, so no big surprise. Oh well, he had many great years but as far as I'm concerned, that run is over.
|
@baylinor - I totally agree with him about pop music, and he's got great taste in that and a lot of different genres. At one show, he was telling us about his love of 'shoegaze', which is one of my favorite post-punk genres as well. Have you read his autobiography yet? Good read!!
Did not realize that about Colin Edwyn - thanks for pointing that out...
