Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland" from the Germany release album. My favorite as a young man. :) |
It's gotta be Big Brother and Janis's "Cheap Thrills" By R. Crumb There were also a few New Riders of the Purple Sage that were simply beautiful. Or, how about the Dead's "Aoxomoxoa"? I know, I know, My sixties are showing. |

There really are too-too many to list. That must be a cool job, designing album covers.
I wish AudiogoN would allow polls, we could vote on our top five or something. Maybe a bracket system like the March Madness, Jazz, Rock, Classical, Blues, New Age etc...??? |
Check out the books "Album Cover Album" for some really neat covers. I think there are 7 or 8 volumes. I have all of them. I know there are several other books, but these are the best. They are authored by Roger Dean and Storm Thorgerson. |
|
Revolver Sgt. Pep. Exile Axis Beck-Ola All Things Must Pass |

|
Floyd's Wish You Were Here only because the corporate greed (and banking prophecies) have come true.
Art imitating life imitating art.
But also anything by Storm Thorgesen's Hipgnosis. |
I always liked Mahogony Rush" Strange Universe " |
I'm with Alpass. I also love Laurie Anderson and Residents album arts. |
Eat a Peach - I need a Google Chrome theme and was looking for this or maybe a Roger Dean or one of the Grateful Dead covers but no luck. Lots of video game themes and artsy stuff, and oh, I forgot Justin Bieber - goes to show the age group making this stuff. Maybe I should just stick with a newspaper and corded telephone instead of a computer :>) |
Mgattone-excellent cover in deed. |
My favorite list is long. But Ralph Steadman did some artwork on a couple Ambrosia albums I've always admired. And of course the many listed above. I've often thought Brain Salad by Geiger would be awesome for helmet graphics. Happy 4th to all, John |
Mofimadness, thanks for the album cover album reminder. Forgot I had one, circa 1977. Lots of great stuff. |
Blue Cheer, "Outsideinside"
and how about that plate of mexican food inside ZZtop's Tres Hombres? |
The Santana debut. The more you examine it the more you find. This would have been an easy one to trip out to in the 70s. May explain why the vinyl is usually trashed when you find one. |
Whipped Cream and Other Delights - Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass.
In Search of the Lost Chord - Moody Blues
"Teensville" - Chet Atkins
Others already mentioned - "Crimson King" (maybe my favorite)and "Looking In" |
