@yogiboy,

"Pipe and Slippers" in the English vernacular, as applied to listeners, is a sometimes pejorative term used to identify those who use rather old fashioned equipment and are happy with comfortable sound rather than chasing higher fidelity.

I'm comfortably listening to Mogwai on my Linn Kans powered by Quad II tube amps. Slippers in place.

Loafers --> fine

Cigars ---> rub it down with whisky ---> light it up on patio or deck outside (don't smoke up the listening room dude!)

I'm with fbgbill on the LLBean mocs.  I wear out a pair every 2-3 years because they are always on my feet (indoors).  And I do wear a bathrobe over my normal shirt and pants.  And my hand does usually have a glass of bourbon on the rocks.  So if you can picture an 84yo sitting in a chair wrapped in a navy Terry LL Bean robe and slippers, sipping a Makers Mark on the rocks, you've got an up-to-date picture to contemplate.  (And yes, I do often sit off to one side of the room.)

It's all legal in Illinois now. So yes, weed pipe and I just got a new pair of slippers.  But sweatshirt rather than smoking jacket.  I'd love a smoking jacket if it did anything special, like a built in stash-box pocket and maybe a lighter coming out of the end of the sleeve. And a pocket for the audio remote.  Add a grinder on the other sleeve and we have a winner.

A pipe, smoking jacket and slippers...

I used to smoke a pipe. Gave it up when I was 7.

Never had the jacket but I do have slippers.

Used to drink Scotch but received a very "peaty" tasting bottle as a gift that put me off scotch permanently. Much prefer a good Bourbon.

Seems 70 is about average for practitioners of this hobby.

+1 on the Makers Mark!

Not sure if it's me or the Bourbon but does that guy in the picture have a 3rd leg?

I have pretty modest tastes in both audio and liquor. Couple of days ago I picked up a bottle of Maker’s Mark 101. In my humble opinion, one of the nicest bourbons and an especially good bargain. Goes well with my KEF R3 Metas fortified by dual HSU subs. Still lobbying for that leather recliner to put in my listening position.

Thanks for a fun topic, yogiboy...

Happy see the LL Bean references from our older "Tribe" in GoN responding to our photo.   Recently, I celebrated my 25th year in Customer Service for LL Bean...still family held, 1 120 year old Maine company.  It's not unusual to serve Customers over age 90, still enjoying their humor and zest.    And ya, our comfortable, warm slippers (house-shoes down south,) remain a staple.

Seeing our subject in that photo, ruminating in a comfortable chair so depicts our beloved hobby.  Some might suggest "smug" like our friends who find expensive gear and tastes excessive.  Others might suggest "content" having found the end of the rainbow.  I embrace both, finding the spark of conflicting opinions, done in the spirit of consultation and growth, can lead to greater understanding and solutions.

"House-shoes" is more specific to my hobby...remaining active, always striving towards better sound.  Late last night, I experimented by moving my Herbie's HAL-O III Tube Stabilizers down from the top third on the tubes to the bottom third of the tubes on my Music Reference RM-10 MKII amplifier.  Yeps, a more natural decay and calm with no loss of dynamic.  Onwards!

Oh yeah,  @akg_ca, 71, quit smoking tobacco 12 yrs ago, preferences, a fine old Bourbon and my vape pen, all the nicotine, without the tar! McIntosh w/ JBL's. It's all good except for the aforementioned side effects. Getting old isn't for meek.

CDC...

On LL's website home page...top of page in the search box with magnifying glass, try Item #510528 Men's Boot Mocs.  Sorry, looks like the two other styles in wide widths are sold out.  And, ya...we round up top and flatten on bottom!  :)   A widow told me her deceased husband insisted on being buried wearing his LL slippers.

A warm Holiday Greetings to all our contributors in AudiogoN FORUM.  We are so fortunate to have the companionship of music and friends for the long haul.

Good Irish whiskey, craft beer, excellent local weed, crocs. A mild gummy here and there...I do have a tux, but I don't want my wife to call the authorities and have me committed...I hate that...don't you?

One of the best things I can do to improve my system is to smoke my pipe first.....

So, not to be a Donnie downer (but I suppose I am) I enjoyed smoking in my youth till I didn't. I was a heavy smoker from about 17 until I quit cold turkey at 43. I was one of those idiots who thought I'd smoke and stop just before I got sick.

I did end up paying the piper. Bad cardiac genetics on my father's side. So triple bypass surgery at 54, a heart attack at 68 and three trips for stents. Also been diagnosed with moderate emphysema. That said, there are those who smoke all their lives and live to 100. Some win the genetic lottery and some don't.

I do refuse to give up the alcohol though, A nice gin and tonic or a hit of bourbon helps keep life fun. Bombay Saphire or a good high proof like Wild Turkey 101 or Old Grand Dad Bonded suit me fine.
