Brand New Vinyl Static and Pops
Why are you bothering with vinyl in the first place? Even hipsters have dumped their turntables. If you want 'Cool Retro' gear just get a Reel to Reel and end your aggravation.   
Are your record surfaces as silent as CDs?
Nope, clicks and pops. Most new pressings, except for boutique labels, are poor. Digital has given me zero tolerance for surface noise.....

I don't have a low cost system BUT one of my most outstanding pieces of gear is also my least expensive. After excessive building of high rise's in my neighborhood  made FM reception impossible I stuck my toe in the water and bought an Ocean Digit...

JJ preamp tubes - repeated problems
JJ tubes are so so at best....  
Amp — Leave on or turn off
If its not a tube power amp then NEVER turn it off. My SMC Audio  Power amp doesn't even have an on/off switch Leave your gear on, even tube pre-amps and DACS etc. They will sound better and last longer!

The speakers are great. Their customer support, not so great. stick with dealers for support.

I still have a very good TT , phono pre-amp etc but almost never listen to it. Even though I started buying high performance  gear during ( possibly ) the golden age of tables. Some vinyl still sounds fantastic. Nowadays I can't get passed Click...
