RIP Sly, you brought so many great listening vibes to these ears, and many others, as, the op. Some life story, for sure! Condolences to your family, friends and listeners, around the world. MrD.
I was still in high school and my girlfriend and I went to see Sly and the Family Stone at Kent State memorial gym. They were like 2 hours or more late to start the show. |
Had just saw where the band War got their star on Hollywood Walk of Fame and was reminiscing about the great funk bands from the early seventies, dove into my collection and Sly and the Family Stone album Stand was the first one pulled to play. Sly was one hell of a talent and am so sorry to hear of his passing, he will be missed but not forgotten. Enjoy the music |
I listen to Morning Becomes Eclectic - KCRW on my FM tuner every morning M-F from 9AM-12PM. I spent a lot of money to get some great tuners so I could listen to this station, specifically to the morning DJ. I recently found out that this DJ, Novena Carmel, is Sly's daughter. That made a lot of sense. Sly Stone was way before my time, but his music must be timeless because I listen to it quite often. |
Have "Riot Going On" and "Greatest Hits" on RtR... Sly was massively talented and the band had a truly unique sound... Coke did him in, if my memory is correct. He got hooked so bad that it cost him his band, his record contract and he basically fried his brain. His former label then screwed him over on past royalties, etc. because they knew he wasn't all there mentally anymore and wasn't in any position to challenge them. Attempted a comeback in the late 70s / early 80s but the mojo and talent level was no longer the same. Truly sad. May he RIP |
