All Quiet on the Oppo front?

Many Oppo fans were talking about getting their pre-ordered UDP-205's a month ago, but no new posts as to current status. I haven't heard a word. I kinda thought there would be a July release, but apparently not.

Anybody receive any news from Oppo in the past month?

Like my 105, I got mine primarily for use as a 5.1 processor with its analog outputs into my two and three channel amps when I need HT.
I purchased the Oppo UDP-205 for 2-channel audio only. It is a pretty nice audio player.
@mental. Oppo offers a lot of features unrelated to playback of discs. And, apparently, a lot of folks want to spend even more money modding it to sound better.
I got my Oppo 205 modified by Ric Schultz at EVS and it sounds just wonderful. I got the super single ended RCA mod plus the upgraded power supply and it sounds wonderful. Trust me I had very high expectations for this unit and it has met them. FYI, I heard the Denafrips Terminator Dac audition at Axpona and I do not think it sounded as good at my EVS modded Oppo 205 does. This player has a huge soundstage with oodles of low level detail and a big fleshed out sound.
@ozzy,

Same here, for 4K movies and as my Blu-Ray player.  I have no interest in using it in my audio system.  I am running mine with the LG TV and sound goes through a Zvox.  Good enough for the occasional movie.
Post removed

Oppo just posted yesterday that the last batch of 205s are all gone.  If you have not received a notice to buy one by now then the only way to buy one is to get a new one on Ebay for around $2350.  After a few weeks the only ones left will be even higher in price.  End of story!  So long Oppo.

I am so glad I got one.  The modified Oppo is incredible (better on discs than the modded LKS DAC or modded Sonica DAC).  Will be using it for years and years.

I asked about Allan’s claim of getting on the list by an alternative means. Oppo said no such alternative pathway exists.
Totally out of sync with my understanding of Oppo and their ground rules.
Yeah, I was surprised too, as I had emailed Oppo like a month before to ask if I could still get on the list. They responded and said i was too late.
Then weeks after in a conversation on Audio Asylum,  a inmate posted a link to register. I tried it and to my surprise I got one.
For what its worth, I registered with Oppo on July 25, and got mine September 5th.
Its still in the box waiting for the 105 to exit.
CelanderWhile that is true I think anybody who did not get on the list in early May is not going to be lucky.
@bultaco

Oppo has not updated their website page showing that Oppo sold out of their 205 products.
It would appear that Oppo has had it's last waltz.. That's all folks!

Let the bidding wars begin.

And Pursang's ruled.
I just reported the listing. It’s a personal sale under a “verified dealer” listing.
Unfortunately you are likely right.
I am now curious to see how far the Agon members push it up, hopefully not as bad as the shark infested eBay waters.
@uberwaltz..............

yes, it was listed at retail but they knew the price would be way over that.  They did it that way to not look greedy but I am not fooled
I know the bdp105 on sacd and CD playback did not hold a candle to my old Pioneer DVD/sacd spinner.
Very dry, sterile and hollow sounding it was.
Probably lucky I did not get a 205 ....lol.
Just going to buy a used bdp103 to replace the older bdp93 in the ht system and call that done.

To be fair to play it again, they have listed it as an auction with reserve just being at cost plus shipping. It is only members who are going to gouge each other there.
I think play it again audio should be ashamed of themselves by taking advantage of us audiophiles.  The fact that they are price gouging the player makes me to never want to purchase anything from them.  I think the UDP205 is a decent player but nothing to write home about.  I find the sound forward and bright, not smooth.  I will only be using mine for Blu-Ray so it doesn't matter much to me, but for someone planning on using it for cd and sacd, you can do much better.  The Marantz SA8005 is a much better sounding player.
LOL

Pretty sure he meant from OPPO.

NOT by having his guts spilled out all over the floor.
jonasandezekiel  asked..."As of now, does anymore know if the unobtainable Oppo is actually obtainable??"

Sure you can get them. If your willing to get totally gouged in the process...

Sorry to tell you but yes you will be wasting your time at this stage.
People who put their names down on the OPPO list from April and early May are getting the last of the stock.
People after that are not going to be in luck I am afraid.
I believe the list closed quite some time ago so not going to be able to even see how far back you would be.
I listed in late May and was told very recently by OPPO that there were approx. 5000 people ahead of me still so not likely at all I would be seeing one.

Good luck
I gave up on getting one after my contact person at Best Buy said they were not able to get anymore. I had waited several months, put down a deposit, but came up empty. Now I'm reading these posts, and they're still shipping?? As of now, does anymore know if the unobtainable Oppo is actually obtainable??

I hope I'm not wasting my time, but I'll try again.
Oppo will post a notice on their website page about the ‘205 player once they have sold out of product.
I received my email Wed the 19th and it shipped yesterday.  Should have it in my hands Wed 26th.
The resale will be maddening on these things.  I may hold on to mine for while since there's not much in the $1300 range that you can buy that does all the things the 205 does.  Now, I just hope it does all those things well.....
The last round of 205 “golden tickets” were sent in August. Shipment is finishing up now. The website no longer accepts entries. Sadly, unless the corporate parent changes course, these are gone. I saw a new one recently for sale - asking $4300. Uggh.
No Darbee option on the 205 or 203 I believe.

They were talking about it about 6 months prior to them announcing cessation of all player production.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity and ordered my UDP-205 last night.
I just realized, is Oppo manufacturing / offering the Darby enhanced edition?
While I would have liked to have it, I'm very grateful for the opportunity to have purchased one.
Anyone know if the Darby edition is being offered?

They were super responsive each time I inquired about status although
they wont go out on a limb and say you will get one, they did say it was "likely". I got mine on Monday!!! Sold the 203 yesterday on CList LA for $650. Yes I feel lucky.
Got my invite last week and received my 205 Tuesday. Now working with tech support trying to get the usb input to recognize my laptop (have tried 2 different laptops). Hope the folks who haven't got their notice yet receive one before all units are gone.
Or is this the best marketing ploy ever devised?
I wanted a 105, but never got around to it until I heard the 205 was discontinued.  I think I got the last one off Amazon.
Odd in the sense it is the contributor’s very first post on any A’gon forum thread. Sorry for the incomplete thought. I hope these gougers never get the price they are asking. Sure, the Oppo ‘205 is a value at $1300. Not sure if it is much above that price.
Odd? Not really.
But making it public knowledge?
Yes that part is odd....

I am betting you are likely to see quite a few at elevated prices popping up on eBay after OPPO are officially all done.
I find it a bit odd that some who already own the 205 player would decide to order a second one, only to then wonder out loud that they have no personal use for it.
Re Oppo smartphones
Kind of a shame they are not big here in the usa as agreed as to why they are not worried about a relatively small udp market.
They know people change their phones almost as frequently as their socks in todays must have latest tech marketplace.
That equates to a lot of phones sold and a lot of profit!
I got my e-mail at 7:22 pm this evening and immediately ordered a UDP-205 (8:10 when I saw it). Don't care how long it takes to arrive, I got one!
Thank you Oppo :-) !
I entered our e-mail address on the Oppo website when the announcement originally came out, after all the players were gone from Best Buy. BTW - I learned of Oppo stopping production from our Audiogon forum.
Hope everyone who wants one gets one, I consider myself very fortunate.
Slightly off topic, but has anybody seen the new Oppo Find X smartphone? Whoa, Daddy! Kinda explains why they said, Sayonara, audiophiles.
I just picked up my OPPO UDP-205 from their office in Menlo Park on Monday, Sept 17 at lunchtime. I received an email on Sunday, Sept 16 stating a limited number are available and to respond via an email link which I did do on Monday morning at 9:47 am. Literally minutes later, a reply from OPPO that my player was now ready for pick-up. While picking up my player, he said that this was the end of the production run. There were probably a dozen or so units just stacked along the cubicles.
Now, I just need to figure out what to do with a second UDP-205. I picked the first one up at Best Buy after the initial announcement.
My invite was last Thursday.
Bultaco was a great bike when I was dirt trail riding in late 60’s and 70’s. I also had Norton,Honda,Yamaha. Considering buying a trail bike again. Lots of trails, back roads and logging roads in southern BC.
No it will not...lol
There is only one more shipment and then that is it.
The only thing we do not know is the size of that shipment.
I added my name to the list some months ago and after reading this post wondered why I had not been contacted. I got a reply this weekend telling me I was on the list but there were 1,500 orders in front of me, this may go on for months and months.
