All Quiet on the Oppo front?

Many Oppo fans were talking about getting their pre-ordered UDP-205's a month ago, but no new posts as to current status. I haven't heard a word. I kinda thought there would be a July release, but apparently not.

Anybody receive any news from Oppo in the past month?

CelanderWhile that is true I think anybody who did not get on the list in early May is not going to be lucky.
Unfortunately you are likely right.
I am now curious to see how far the Agon members push it up, hopefully not as bad as the shark infested eBay waters.
I know the bdp105 on sacd and CD playback did not hold a candle to my old Pioneer DVD/sacd spinner.
Very dry, sterile and hollow sounding it was.
Probably lucky I did not get a 205 ....lol.
Just going to buy a used bdp103 to replace the older bdp93 in the ht system and call that done.

To be fair to play it again, they have listed it as an auction with reserve just being at cost plus shipping. It is only members who are going to gouge each other there.
LOL

Pretty sure he meant from OPPO.

NOT by having his guts spilled out all over the floor.
Sorry to tell you but yes you will be wasting your time at this stage.
People who put their names down on the OPPO list from April and early May are getting the last of the stock.
People after that are not going to be in luck I am afraid.
I believe the list closed quite some time ago so not going to be able to even see how far back you would be.
I listed in late May and was told very recently by OPPO that there were approx. 5000 people ahead of me still so not likely at all I would be seeing one.

Good luck
No Darbee option on the 205 or 203 I believe.

They were talking about it about 6 months prior to them announcing cessation of all player production.
Odd? Not really.
But making it public knowledge?
Yes that part is odd....

I am betting you are likely to see quite a few at elevated prices popping up on eBay after OPPO are officially all done.
Re Oppo smartphones
Kind of a shame they are not big here in the usa as agreed as to why they are not worried about a relatively small udp market.
They know people change their phones almost as frequently as their socks in todays must have latest tech marketplace.
That equates to a lot of phones sold and a lot of profit!
No it will not...lol
There is only one more shipment and then that is it.
The only thing we do not know is the size of that shipment.
Bultaco

My understanding was that they have one more shipment going out in September.
No idea how many in that shipment though and as they have already very clearly stated once that lot is gone they are done!
Look at it this way Stereo5... whatever you decide after you have had it a while I do not think you will lose money on it, just look at prices of pre-owned ones right now.
You truly cannot lose at all
Enjoy Stereo5!

Lovemy8514, congrats, you are approx 3300 in front of myself, lmfao!
Well there you go then, at least you got an offer, more than I fear some are going to receive.
Your call obviously to accept or not, with the recent correspondence from Oppo I would also take a deep long look at whether it would be the right move long term RE. support and parts etc.
Good luck whatever you decide!
kpetrich

Real glad you got yours and are happy with it, that is the point.

However as detailed by OPPO replies, it is not a case of taking heart any longer, there are simply nowhere near enough players on the last production runs to meet demand so there ARE going to be a fair number of dissapointed people pure and simple
I have to agree that I thought their speel on in-house manufactured parts was a little hokey.
Pretty sure vast majority of internal parts would be sourced from sub contractors.

There maybe a few in-house parts though and possibly that is what put the kibosh and making more.

However we have their "official line " now so it is what it is.

Btw my last email to them I made it clear I was sharing this information on Audiogon forums so I very much doubt it is not correct or info that they do not want public.
I have found with a direct inquiry straight to service@OPPO gave very rapid replies.
3 times over last 3 days I have emailed and reply varied from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Good point Bar81!

If they do not have parts to make any they are going to be hard pressed to have parts to repair any!

May be a blessing to actually NOT be offered one as buying a player, no matter how good, with in built obsolescence...….
From OPPO replies to myself I am,not going to be holding my breath...lol

Good luck to everyone else on the wait list!
And right after I posted this reply from OPPO when I asked the profit question.

So there is your answer, once these runs are done it is over no matter the demand.

Kevin,

We can't just manufacture players from off the shelf parts. These players have to be built from scratch. Everything from the boards to the aluminum panels, have to be manufactured than assembled. We are no longer in a manufacturing position to manufacture the parts anymore for the final assembly of the UDP-205.

Therefore, we are not able to manufacture any additional players, regardless of the demand.

That is a whole pile of cash OPPO are ignoring.
I don't care how large a global company they are, how do you justify turning down so much easy money?
Stereo5.
If that is true then I am not sure how, if I ran OPPO, I would begin to explain to the shareholders how I knowingly threw away $2 million profit.

Makes me think has to be more to it, say a certain part of parts not available to be able to build more
What sort of profit you think OPPO making on a 205?
$200 or so, sound reasonable?

So $200 x 5000 units equals a cool million dollars of profit they are throwing away.
Not sure how any company can afford to do that in today's hard fought sales age.
I do not have email to hand to paste their reply but I did ask today if they would consider more production with a 5000 order database.

Their answer was basically a very polite but firm no.
@celander

Odd.
Both yours and my own experience here appears to be at odds with a claimed June 24th confirmation and now offer of a unit.

Its not the end of my world but I wonder how many others that have become out of apparent sync.
I do not think so.
Unless the email reply from OPPO was just auto which I doubt, it does not say I missed an invitation, rather that there are a lot of names ahead .
Just that seems at odds with your statement of June 24th confirmation.

Maybe it was auto, maybe they are wrong.
Not going to worry over it.

Good luck to those who do receive one!
June 24th???
And you have one on the way???
I was in early May and heard nothing.
How can that be right?
If they are going by date request received as their reply intimidated.

Oh well.....
Email OPPO and had a reply within 30 minutes, although not really what I wanted to read but at least it was honest, see below.
"

Kevin,

We've received one shipment a little over a week ago and we're expecting our last shipment to arrive in the coming week. I've looked up your email address and there's over five thousand people ahead in the queue.  If that information is accurate, the player is not likely going to be available to you as there are so many ahead and we are not able to manufacture enough units for everyone in the queue.

Now I have no idea how many units per shipment but not in the order of thousands so there are definitely going to be a few disapointed people out there

not sure what criteria they are using to chose who to offer to?
it almost seems some later applicants have been receiving offers of units.
of course always the possibility that the offer to my daughter went into spam and she just junked it without reading or seeing it.
My daughter has been on the list since April and no word from OPPO to her either yet.
Maybe they are all done?
