Why so many B & W Speakers on the used market? I worked in listenup for several years, selling a ton of B&Ws as it was their primary line forever. Many many speaker lines are a little tipped up in upper freqs. Many many customers like that presentation. Others don’t. None of that has an...
Balanced Power Anyone? H May I ask what are you powering off it? The REL subs? Power amp(s)? Just front end gear?
New vs uses in your current setup Until a couple years ago, almost everything was used. Now the turntable is used, and the speakers are demos, although the manufacturer considers them new. Everything else is new. Thanks for the interesting thread.
Battle of the affordables I haven’t heard the SVS but it is well enough reviewed to warrant a listen. The B&W is a good sounding speaker, especially with tubes and an analog front end. If you shared more info about your musical tastes, the room dimensions and the rest ...
Denafrips Pontus 15th, Pass Labs INT-60, and Wilson Sabrinas Kudos to audphile1. Pass labs/wilson will absolutely reveal what IC and cabling you use. The downside is you will be spending money, the upside is how much fun it is to hear the improvements. Everyone recommends what they use, so one more won’t ...
B&W 802D1 - How can I tame the brightness? With all due respect to Mike, an EQ has no place in high end systems. While trying to fix something it trashes many things. I know this sounds combative - I don’t mean it to be, but I know a ton about this subject.
B&W 802D1 - How can I tame the brightness? Of all the advice, getting an EQ is the worst. Your room is a big part of the sound. Look into ways to incorporate soft items into the room. Rugs if you have hard floor coverings, etc. I’ve had luck with well placed plants like you see at audio s...
Speakers for leading edge, transients, speed and big sound Please be aware, most of these recommendations are for the speakers people own. Go forth and listen for yourself.
Speakers for leading edge, transients, speed and big sound Rockports or Wilson’s. Fast, great transient response, very coherent, and don’t have the coloration of horn drivers. With your price range you owe it to yourself to take your time, use your ears, not ours.
Cartridge - sweet spot on the cost/sound curve? Whatever you land on, remember to give it hours and hours of break in before you form an opinion. Often, I think people decide a cartridge sucks before they have heard it perform at its best.
I often notice that people who have open reel decks and/or tube equipment are nicest I have tubes, no R2R, but I lust for one. Where does that leave me? Decent guy, but a little crusty around the edges?
Tulsa, Oklahoma +1 on Tulsa - interested in an audio group of some sort.
Best Used Tube Based Preamp $2k Or Under? +1 on Odyssey Candela tube pre. I believe one can be had new in your price range. It stands up nicely with big hitters, driving a Pass Labs 260.8 into Wilson Sasha DAWs in my system. Basic remote available.
Morrow Audio 1m MA4 Balanced Interconnect Qdrone, please tell me about your burn in devices. I’ve read about them but wanted to hear your experiences.
Silnote audio or Morrow audio Wow, the sound of crickets, that sucks. I can speak about Morrow as I’m using them for everything but I’ve never heard silnote. Which way did you end up jumping? |
