Check out Nazareth, Black Sabbath and Great White. |
Riot. (Not quiet riot) Fire down under is awesome. Accept is an old favorite too. Old Dokken and Iron Maidon. |
I was a metalhead back then.
Megadeath, Dokken, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Ratt, Cinderella, Metal Church, Riot, Quiet Riot, Triumph, Tesla, Judas Priest, Dio, Motley Crue, Whitesnake (I like their older bluesy stuff, like Black n' Blue), Motorhead, Anthrax, Pantera, King's X, Axe, Queensryche, Slayer, Exodus, Savatage, Twisted Sister, Misfits, Suicidal Tendencies, GWAR.
That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure a Google search would turn up a ton I'm forgetting - or can't remember anymore :) |
Judiest Priest, Iron Maiden, Quiet Riot |
whiplash, ludachrist, anthrax, dri, early suicidal tendencies, rigor mortis, and of course, slayer. |
Convict "Make My Day". One of the greatest metal records ever. |
Never thought I'd see the words metalhead and sleeper in the same sentence ;-) |
Looks like Cinderella, Ratt, Motley Crue and Dokken fit this list. Not sure about the sonics of even mint originals, but they can be fun.... |
Blue Cheer: "Vincebus Eruptum". |
How did you all miss Iron Maiden?
One of the best metal bands of all time!
Now, if you want true classics, you need Motor head's "Ace of Spades"... |
Iron Maiden was mentioned in the second post Kenny. |
|
Dio--it is an incredible album. Great on vinyl. |
|
Swanny- I guess you must be speaking of Holy Diver. I don't believe he had a S/t album. I had the vinyl of The Last in Line, and thought it was pretty bad. I just played my Green label Sabbath: S/t, and it sounds very good. Just picked up a standard press of Sabotage, and it's a very good record. Ozzy's vocals are stronger than I have heard. |
I use to have Diamondhead on vinyl. Big influence on Metallica. |
This may be a little offbeat, but back in the day, I listened to Bad Brains, they were Rasta metal dudes who were pretty legendary. Their 'big' album was entitled 'i against i' and one of the tracks, 'Sacred Love,' has a very muted, odd sounding lead vocal. Apparently, the singer was in jail on a ganga charge, and they recorded his vocal track over the phone, from jail. They don't fit neatly into any category- maybe punkish, but they ain't reggae, that's for sure. |
Metal Church, The Dark. Y&T had some decent tunes as well. |
Budgie. From Wales. One of the original HM bands. Very underrated. Covered by Metallica, Soundgarden, and others. Check 'em out. |

Vinnie Vincent invasion, both albums for sure
Maybe more 90's but fit the genre well I think are: 1- the first Brides of Destruction album (band members include Nikki Sixx and Tracy Guns) 2- both albums by Beautiful Creatures, whose singer is the guy from Bang Tango |
Bigsam2-Is the debut Brides of Destruction easily available? Does Tracy Guns have long solos on this recording? |
Brides of Destruction is just ok, no big deal, imo. Tracii's solos are good, but I prefer them on the last L.A. Guns cd with him on it, 'Waking the Dead.' |
Dayglo,
I bought my copy of the first brides of destruction cd used off of amazon for just a few dollars (the second album had very little input from Nikki Sixx apparently and I don't really care for it, but I really enjoyed the first one). Tracy Guns has some good solos on the album, about the duration you would expect for the genre. |
wow...diddnt knew that judas priest, megadeth, antrax, motorhead, slayers and iron maiden are "sleepers"...everyday i learn something new on this site :) |
|
Raindog031, I agree, those are well known bands... |
|
|
AC DC Highway to Hell; Judas Priest Unleashed in the East; Scorpions Virgin Killer; Styx; Grand Illusion (seriously - it is Metal!) - try that playlist. |
i'm a bit late to the show here but I don't see Jaguar, Venom, Witchfinder General, Cirith Ungol, TT Quick, Fastway, Helloween, and The Rods mentioned to name a few. If you are into Motorhead you need to follow Lemmy back to Hawkwind. Twisted Sister's early material Ruff Cutts and Under the Blade are good also. |
I agree, very underrated bands. As far as Hawkwind, all I have is 'Hall of the Mountain Grill.' I really dig that album! |
Angels (Angel CIty usa)...great aussie pub rock.... |
Rose Tattoo is good as well. |
Some good suggestions . Triumph -"Allied Forces ", Nazareth - first three albums , Dio with Blackmore , Judas Preist ( absofunkinlutley ), Quiet Riot covering Slade songs . Having seen Priest open for Zepplin and Van Halen open for Sabbeth , I have to get snooty towards the Pussy Hair Spray bands . Although Tommy Aldrege played for White Snake ( they suck ) Black Oak Arkansas was fun to see ! Sorry for my Ass Hollyness , but that's my suggestions . Regards , Mike. |
