album cover: Osibisa Woyaya best song: Y sharp, and the short electric guitar solo at at the end of that song, which starts at 4:35 minutes into the song, is still unmatched by any artist or any band still to date ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5-t8THAGx8) |
"Caroline Now!" - The Songs of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys "Looking Into You" - A Tribute to Jackson Browne The reverence that many of the participating artists have for the songs that they cover is palpable (YMMV). The Jackson Browne tribute was curated by overlooked and underrated singer/songwriter Jimmy LaFave (Austin, TX); and, Bob Ludwig does the mastering, so the sound quality is sterling. |
Wow! OK, London Calling = Elvis' first album cover Ramons Acid = Greatfull Dead = Big Brother + Janis Faithful = White Album Many others show the artist(s) standing or sitting down. Not sure what the "artistic" elements of that are, but to each his own. I guess derivative covers are good, or are they "tributes" like London Calling? Cheers! |

glupson " One assumes Dylan’s covers of Sinatra has been mentioned. 😩"There is a reason why it does not collect votes. >>>>>One assumes because noone’s heard it. |
These are the latest cover music on my radar. Walter Trout does a great obscure blues cover album called "Survivor Blues" and Neal Morse and his band latest called Cov3r to Cov3r. My favorite albums covers are Molly Hatchets self titled LP with the Frazetta's Death Dealer artwork and Nazareth Hair of the Dog LP. |
Creedence covering, "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" The Animals covering Bob Dylan's cover of Dave Van Ronk's arrangement of "House of the Rising Sun" Again for Jimi covering, "All Along the Watchtower" Maybe CSNY covering Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock" And - my personal favorite - Stones covering, "Love in Vain" (original by Robert Johnson) But, I'm dating myself with these choices... |
Leonid & Friends (Russian band) does Chicago songs better than Chicago did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lcf5X1lg6-4 |
I don't know of any album sloppier than Sid Sings, but I, too, have enjoyed it a lot. Yes, the Motorhead covers album is good, and I also liked Guns N' Roses' Spaghetti Incident and Metallica's Garage Days Revisited; both had a couple low points, but the highlights more than made up for it.In that same era, Slayer put out the note-worthy Undisputed Attitude, which had its moments and was mind-blowingly fast, even for Slayer. My all-time favorite cover album, though, has to go to The Walkabouts' Satisfied Mind. It is a phenomenal album by any measure. |
Todd Rundgren - Faithful. Spot of re-creations of the Yardbirds' "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago","Good Vibrations", the Beatles' "Rain" and "Strawberry Fields Forever", Dylan's "Most Likely You Go Your Way And I'll Go Mine" and Hendrix's "If Six Was Nine" |
