Your vote for greatest (covers) album

Mine is Annie Lennox "Nostalgia". Not only is she one of the greatest female voices ever, she knows how to make a song her own.

Jenny sings Lenny is indeed the greatest covers album of all time. Not even Holly Cole Temptation can touch it.
Already mentioned, but Joan Osbourne "How Sweet It Is" gets my vote. Her response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, she goes back to 70's music, looking for healing. So many great tracks that Joan just makes her own.
Chris Cornell - Billie Jean
Most any of Joe Cocker’s covers
The Zombies - Summertime
Dead Kennedys - Viva Las Vegas
Social Distortion - Ring of Fire
Heavy Rock Radio ..... Jorn.

Probably never heard of Jorn Lande, a German metal vocalist.

But this album is well worth a listen just to hear a heavy metal cover of Kate Bush Running up that Hill!!

album cover: Osibisa Woyaya

best song: Y sharp, and the short electric guitar solo at at the end of that song, which starts at 4:35 minutes into the song, is still unmatched by any artist or any band still to date ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5-t8THAGx8)

Cover art
The Clash: London Calling

Cover song
Cake: I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor song)
"Caroline Now!" - The Songs of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys

"Looking Into You" - A Tribute to Jackson Browne

The reverence that many of the participating artists have for the songs that they cover is palpable (YMMV). The Jackson Browne tribute was curated by overlooked and underrated singer/songwriter Jimmy LaFave (Austin, TX); and, Bob Ludwig does the mastering, so the sound quality is sterling.

Wow!

OK, London Calling = Elvis' first album cover

Ramons Acid = Greatfull Dead = Big Brother + Janis

Faithful = White Album

Many others show the artist(s) standing or sitting down.

Not sure what the "artistic" elements of that are, but to each his own.

I guess derivative covers are good, or are they "tributes" like London Calling?

Cheers!
It’s possible there’s something terribly wrong with the school system. 😩
I'm amazed by how many don't know the difference between cover albums and album covers.

There is a reason it does not collect votes. There is a reason it collects dust.

" One assumes Dylan’s covers of Sinatra has been mentioned. 😩"
There is a reason why it does not collect votes.

>>>>>One assumes because noone’s heard it.

These are the latest cover music on my radar.

Walter Trout does a great obscure blues cover album called "Survivor Blues" and Neal Morse and his band latest called Cov3r to Cov3r.

My favorite albums covers are Molly Hatchets self titled LP with the Frazetta's Death Dealer artwork and Nazareth Hair of the Dog LP.
Creedence covering, "I Heard it Through the Grapevine"
The Animals covering Bob Dylan's cover of Dave Van Ronk's arrangement of "House of the Rising Sun"
Again for Jimi covering, "All Along the Watchtower"
Maybe CSNY covering Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock"
And - my personal favorite - Stones covering, "Love in Vain" (original by Robert Johnson)
But, I'm dating myself with these choices...

Uh, it’s supposed to be album “covers” not ...oh, never mind! 🤗
Zappa's "Overnight Sensation" is a fascinating cover... Oh, you meant cover SONGS.
1-Jethro Tull “Thick as a brick” not just for the music talents but also one of the best produced albums ever.
2- Doors “ LA Women”
3- Pink Floyd. “The Wall”
4- AC/DC “Power Age”
Once a week I listen to the version from Nina Hagen and Apocalyptica of Rammsteins "Seemann" - it is amazing.
+1 mammothguy54! Bowie's Pinups is great! I forgot about it! Thanks for the reminder!
Bryan Ferry's These Foolish Things (1973). Covers of the Beatles, Stones, Dylan ... I have the CD on order!
I don't know of any album sloppier than Sid Sings, but I, too, have enjoyed it a lot.
Yes, the Motorhead covers album is good, and I also liked Guns N' Roses' Spaghetti Incident and Metallica's Garage Days Revisited; both had a couple low points, but the highlights more than made up for it.In that same era, Slayer put out the note-worthy Undisputed Attitude, which had its moments and was mind-blowingly fast, even for Slayer.
My all-time favorite cover album, though, has to go to The Walkabouts' Satisfied Mind.  It is a phenomenal album by any measure.
The Scissor Sisters glam, disco cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” is so wrong...but yet so right
Abba-esque EP by Erasure really jumps first in my mind. Covering 4 ABBA songs and making it completely theirs.
second Rosanne’s The List....you inspired me to start my morning with her :)

Its a mix of originals and covers, but overall one of my favorite albums, Nirvana - MTV Unplugged

Ryan Adams - 1989

I love the man in black’s American series. Johnny’s cover of Hurt on American IV is pretty special
Try Eva Cassidy "The Best of Eva Cassidy" 2 record set of all or almost all covered songs is the best for me. Her voice is angelic and spot on pitch wise.... almost chilling. Just beautiful. Hopefully you won't be disappointed.
Todd Rundgren - Faithful.   Spot of re-creations of the Yardbirds'
"Happenings Ten Years Time Ago","Good Vibrations", the Beatles' "Rain" and
"Strawberry Fields Forever", Dylan's "Most Likely You Go Your Way And I'll Go Mine"
and Hendrix's "If Six Was Nine
