I'll probably get a good bashing for this, but I am actually shocked at some of the songs that are being mentioned, not because they are pop, which I have no problem with at all, but because some of them are so banal and formulaic. |
A man can love his demons, right? |
I meant to say "Sick Things," by Alice Cooper. |
Recently came across by some oldies..like Def leppard "love bites" |
Lick My Love Pump by Spinal Tap |
"You're nobody 'til somebody loves you" Dino was the best! |

Tough to choose just one, but mine would have to be "In My Life" by The Beatles. Those lyrics, wow! |
Con Funk Shun's "Make It Last." The "Loveshine" album was fantastic. It is one of my top three favorite albums of all time. I have been playing it since I was in the 7th grade. That was a long time ago. 80's R&B baby! |
For my wife---her favorite: Moondance |
Heroes, David Bowie, Can't Fight This Feeling, REO Speedwagon |
@Nights in white satin, what a song! it brings back some good memories. |
Singleendedsingle, "Nights" instead of Knights? You too? |
Wynonna Judd's "What Kind of Fool Love Makes" |
stuck in a blizzard the other night, i heard "hey jealousy" by the gin blossoms, whom i'd always regarded as a middlin pop band. for whatever reason i was struck by what a great sad song it is. the backstory here is that the guy who wrote it was a hopeless drunk who got kicked out of the band just as they were blowing up, then shot himself. that line "if you don't expect too much from me/you might not be let down" damn near brings a tear to your eye. |
What a Wonderful World
Good Listening
Peter |
La La means I love you. By Blue Magic. |

Here There and Everywhere, the Beatles
Angel Eyes, Frank Sinatra
Lay Lady Lay, Bob Dylan.
Detour Ahead, Monica Zetterlund w. Bill Evans trio |
'Always and Forever'....I think I like the original Heatwave version better than the Luther Vandross version but they are both awesome. |
. "Distant Lover" by Marvin Gaye . |
Sting "Shape of My Heart"! I used to play a lot of cards and this song just got me stalled one day I watched the end credits of movie "Professional". THAT was the BEST movie episode ever since. |
Czarivey - Good pick. I enjoyed The Professional very much (especially loved Gary Oldman's acting and his little dissertation about Mozart vs Beethoven as "work" music). One of the few I've gone out and bought on DVD. Not that big a fan of Sting though I recognize his talents (just something annoying about him, to me) but I did pick up his CD, Ten Summoner's Tales, on the strength of that song, Shape of My Heart. |
I voted in this thread several years ago, but I'll add another favorite of mine, this time in the folk genre. "Today" by the New Christy Minstrels, from 1964. Regards, -- Al |
Al, That's a beautiful song, and I had never heard it before. Thanks. Coincidentally, earlier in this thread, I chose "Today" by Jefferson Airplane as one of the most beautiful love songs I know. I don't know if you are familiar with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d34i_my15gk John |
I Fall To Pieces sung by Aaron Neville and Trisha Yearwood. |
Thanks, John (Roxy54). Although I'm familiar with, and somewhat like, a lot of the Airplane's work, somehow I had overlooked "Today." Enjoyed listening to it.
Best regards, -- Al |
I've actually didn't pay attention to the OP's request for LOVE song(perhaps due to the assumption that best songs are about LOVE), but nevertheless, I get stalled when hear Sade's Haunt Me. |
Wow this thread has been alive for along time, since before the creation of Youtube. I digress... Operatic love song goes to Una furtiva lagrima, from Donazetti's opera L'Elisir d'Amore. The elixir of love. Here is Ramon Vargas singing it with subtitles. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_qvhEkOkGggYouTube cannot do it justice, but you get the idea... |
"Here and Now" Luther Vandross. And of course "In my Life" and "Glory of Love". |
"Heard It In A Love Song" Marshall Tucker Band |
