Your ONE all time favorite love song?

For me it's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack, from her CD "Softly with These Songs, the Best of Roberta Flack", on Atlantic. I'm looking for LOVE SONGS. Thanks and Cheers. Craig

Warren Z always tickled my fancy. Black humor with a softer side that he did not reveal much until he got sick. Great songwriter that is missed.
Wow, probably the most sung about topic in history, at least in English. One that comes immediately to mind is "Keep Me in Your Heart for Awhile" by Warren Zevon.
If you stick to "pop" songs Glen Campbell singing "By the time I get to Phoenix .
American Songbook "Someone to Watch Over Me " .
It used to be "God Only Knows" by Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys, but winning by a nose now is "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted", either in it's original recording by Jimmy Ruffin or the more recent live recording by Joan Osborne with the Motown house band.
Jerry Garcia doin Shining Star but it's a toss up between Aaron Neville's Feels Like Rain.
Al,
I saw that performance on TV, and was also shocked that his voice sounded so great still at his age. Good pick, even though it's not one of my favorite songs either.
I've already voted in this thread for a couple of favorites of mine, on 10-21-09 and 7-20-14. So I'll now take some liberties and name a song which is not one of my favorite love songs, and which I neither particularly like nor particularly dislike as a song, but which I feel deserves mention in this thread because of the performance. Jay Black, formerly of Jay & The Americans and often referred to as "The Voice," performing "Cara Mia" a few years ago, at the age of 72. Simply incredible!

Blue Gardenia by Diana Washington. Or ... I've got a crush on you by Sarah Vaughn.
"Here and Now" Luther Vandross. And of course "In my Life" and "Glory of Love".
Wow this thread has been alive for along time, since before the creation of Youtube. I digress...

Operatic love song goes to Una furtiva lagrima, from Donazetti's opera L'Elisir d'Amore. The elixir of love. Here is Ramon Vargas singing it with subtitles.

YouTube cannot do it justice, but you get the idea...
I've actually didn't pay attention to the OP's request for LOVE song(perhaps due to the assumption that best songs are about LOVE), but nevertheless, I get stalled when hear Sade's Haunt Me.
Thanks, John (Roxy54). Although I'm familiar with, and somewhat like, a lot of the Airplane's work, somehow I had overlooked "Today." Enjoyed listening to it.

Best regards,

Al,
That's a beautiful song, and I had never heard it before. Thanks.
Coincidentally, earlier in this thread, I chose "Today" by Jefferson Airplane as one of the most beautiful love songs I know. I don't know if you are familiar with it.

I voted in this thread several years ago, but I'll add another favorite of mine, this time in the folk genre. "Today" by the New Christy Minstrels, from 1964.

Czarivey - Good pick. I enjoyed The Professional very much (especially loved Gary Oldman's acting and his little dissertation about Mozart vs Beethoven as "work" music). One of the few I've gone out and bought on DVD. Not that big a fan of Sting though I recognize his talents (just something annoying about him, to me) but I did pick up his CD, Ten Summoner's Tales, on the strength of that song, Shape of My Heart.
Sting "Shape of My Heart"! I used to play a lot of cards and this song just got me stalled one day I watched the end credits of movie "Professional". THAT was the BEST movie episode ever since.
'Always and Forever'....I think I like the original Heatwave version better than the Luther Vandross version but they are both awesome.
sorry can't choose:

Here There and Everywhere, the Beatles

Angel Eyes, Frank Sinatra

Lay Lady Lay, Bob Dylan.

Detour Ahead, Monica Zetterlund w. Bill Evans trio
Was a great, great one Wiz, but Marvin and Tammy on "Its the real thing Baby", tops them all !
'To Sir With Love', by Lulu. This song moves me more than any other song I've known. It's perfect:)
Toby Beau - My Angel Baby.
Here it is.

Way too difficult.
A four-way tie for me: "All Woman" -Lisa Stansfield
"I Try" -Angela Bofill
"How Can I Ease The Pain" -Lisa Fisher
"Superstar" -(Karen)The Carpenters
Oops it's the Delfonics for La La, not Blue Magic. Spell is my favorite for that group. And of course My Cherie Amour my Stevie Wonder.
stuck in a blizzard the other night, i heard "hey jealousy" by the gin blossoms, whom i'd always regarded as a middlin pop band. for whatever reason i was struck by what a great sad song it is. the backstory here is that the guy who wrote it was a hopeless drunk who got kicked out of the band just as they were blowing up, then shot himself. that line "if you don't expect too much from me/you might not be let down" damn near brings a tear to your eye.
Con Funk Shun's "Make It Last." The "Loveshine" album was fantastic. It is one of my top three favorite albums of all time. I have been playing it since I was in the 7th grade. That was a long time ago. 80's R&B baby!
