Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

Massive Attack - Blue Lines

Massive Attack - Heligpland

David Lang - Pierced (oopps...a cd)

Peter Sinfield - Still

The West Coast Experimental Band - Tranparent Day

Boston - Don't Look Back, CBS Master Sound 1/2 speed mastered. I know these don't have the greatest reputation, but this sounds pretty good to me. It's not bright at all which some of them were because they were done incorrectly. The vocals are very easy to pick out. I'm going from memory, not listening back-to-back to another copy, but it seems like there's a little more bass and maybe the guitar is a little less present.

@slaw

Wasn't there a band from the 90s called The Catherine Wheel?

Yes, I remember them from Napster download days because I always thought it was strange to name your band after a torture device….

I've always wanted to "upgrade" my first two Boston lps ( barcoded) with pp. I've felt like they were bright in the past.

+1 ticat. I really like his older "solo" albums

James,

I had no idea that was a torture device. This is a continuous thread of knowledge for me 👍

Steve,

FWIW, I didn't care much for their music.

Yet another from the Inn Groove haul:

Etta James-At Last! 2016 Jackpot RE

Setting aside Sunday for installing and testing of the new Audiomods arm.

@j_husker I was trying to remember who had mentioned the In Groove. I was in Phoenix a few days ago and picked up a bunch of Record Store Day titles there on Saturday. They are on their way through the postal system now. Thanks for the tip!

A late RSD pickup.

Sandy Denny - Gold Dust, Live At The Royalty. UMC/Island remaster/RSD reissue 2022, (first time on vinyl), originally 1998.

Sandy Denny's final concert recorded at the Royalty Theatre, London, England on 27 November 1977

Phil Manzanera - 801 Live  w/Eno, Bill MacCormick, Simon Phillips, Francis Monkman, & Lloyd Watson. Recorded live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, September 3rd, 1976. Polydor 1977

Brian,

I love the live version of "baby's on fire," from that album.

Boston / Don’t Look Back
1978 CBS

Great record, pretty balanced vocals and instruments imo although I wouldn’t say the SQ is brag worthy. I don’t find it bright. Agree with @big_greg’s comments. Hard to keep the volume down on A Man I’ll Never Be.

@boxer12

I love the live version of my "baby's on fire," from that album.

As do I Tim, but IMO the whole side 1 of that LP is also really really good.

@j_husker  Thanks for the good tip on Etta James, "At Last".  I have wanted that album and with a little research found that the Jackpot reissue (that you have) is mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI.  The other reissues are on labels where I have no idea what the SQ would be like.  I believe that I can trust Kevin and RTI.  I just placed my order.

I've been skiing at Mammoth Mountain most of last week.  My wife stayed home to help our ailing dog.  He got worse while I was away.  It will be a difficult time next week as we most likely will have to put him down.  I haven't turned on my hi-fi since returning from skiing.  Just hanging with our dog and comforting him.  Music tonight, I need some of that.

So sorry to hear about your dog Joel. They really are our best friends. I know mine is.

Really sorry about your dog Joel

Melody Gardot, Live in Europe. First time playing it and I’m liking it.
